The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you – it's looking flat and pretty lifeless out there for the next couple of weeks. We’ve got a long stretch of nothing on the cards, so don't be rushing to grab your board just yet.
Right off the bat, things are dead. Monday the 17th has a big fat zero for surf, and that continues right through Wednesday the 19th. We’re looking at clean conditions with light offshore winds, but with no swell on the horizon, it’s just a glassy lake. It’s a real tease. The water is a warm 67°F which is a good 7°F warmer than usual for this time of year, which is pretty wild, but it doesn't mean a thing without waves.
We finally see a pulse of something on Thursday the 20th, but it's hardly worth the paddle. The swell shows up from the north at 3ft with a short, weak 4-second period. The combined energy is weak at 29, and with cross-onshore winds, it’s going to be a messy, bumpy dump. Not one to get excited about.
Friday the 21st and Saturday the 22nd are absolutely tiny, with waves dropping to 0.3ft. The energy is basically non-existent, down at 1. It’s a complete write-off.
We get a slight bump on Sunday the 23rd with a 1ft northwest swell and a 4-second period, but it’s still cross-on and weak. The energy is just 7, so you're looking at dribblers at best. Not even worth the wetsuit.
From Monday the 24th through to the end of the month, it’s a desert. The finder doesn't have a single recommendation. The waves are gone again, and even though we get some clean, glassy pockets and some light offshore winds, there’s just no swell to push through. It’s a long flat spell.
There is a flicker of hope as we head into September. On the 1st, we see a cross-off breeze in the afternoon, keeping things clean, but there's still no swell. It's the same story – all form, no function.
So where does that leave us? With the swell this small and the winds often cross-shore or onshore, it's looking more like a kiteboarder's paradise than a surfer's. The whole 16-day window is a blank run, plain and simple. For this spot, that's not uncommon. But with the water this warm and the winds this clean at times, I wouldn’t be surprised if a late-season pulse finds its way in. Forecasts can change. As it stands, there is absolutely nothing on offer this week, and next week is looking just as grim. Hang loose, and check back later.
Rusty, out.
