Table - best surf conditions forecast for Rhos-On-Sea over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get straight into it for Rhos-On-Sea.
Honestly, I’ve been staring at this forecast and it’s a tough one. The next week and a half is looking pretty grim. There’s simply no decent surf on offer for the first 12 days of the forecast period. From Thursday the 9th right through to Monday the 21st of July, the conditions are total rubbish – tiny, weak, and mostly onshore junk. You’re looking at a long dry spell with no worthwhile waves. The water temp is sitting at 63° for the first break mention, which is about 5° warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s a very notable warm anomaly, so the water will feel lovely for a paddle, but there’s nothing to ride.
The first real glimmer of hope doesn’t show up until Wednesday the 22nd of July. We start to see a little life in the ocean. By Thursday the 23rd of July morning, we’ve got a NW swell pushing 4 ft with a period of 6 seconds, and the combined energy is a weak 83 – still small, but it’s the most energy we’ve seen. The wind is a light cross-onshore from the NNW at 6 mph, which is manageable. It’s not going to be epic, but it’s the first wave of the whole run worth paddling for.
The standout in this whole 16-day window, and I mean the only real standout, is Thursday the 23rd of July afternoon and Friday the 24th of July. On Thursday afternoon, the swell drops a touch to 3 ft from the NW, but the wind swings around to a cross-offshore from the WNW at 12 mph. That’s clean. The energy is still moderate at 43, but for Rhos-On-Sea, that glassy, cross-off wind is a major positive. Friday morning the 24th holds similar with 3 ft from the NNW and clean cross-off winds at 9 mph, energy at 44. This is the best of the bunch – rideable, clean, and it’s a point break that’s inconsistent, so you’ll have to be patient, but when a set comes through, it’ll be worth it.
For the rest of Friday afternoon, it fades back to 2 ft and weak. There’s nothing else in the second week. It’s a bleak outlook, but that Thursday afternoon to Friday morning window is your only shot. Get on it if you can.
Rusty.
