The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Rhos-On-Sea over the next couple of weeks.
Straight up, I’ve got to be honest with you – this is a tough one. The forecast is looking pretty grim. We’re staring down a long stretch of flat, unrideable conditions. The first real chance of anything surfable doesn’t show up until Saturday the 18th, and even then, it’s a real struggle. Between now and then, there’s just nothing doing. The swell is tiny, the energy is weak, and the whole setup is a non-starter.
The standout, if you can even call it that, is the morning of Saturday the 18th. We’ve got a bit of a pulse from the NW pushing in at 3 ft, with a period of 5 seconds. The combined energy is only 41, which is weak. The wind is a clean cross-off from the WNW at 9 mph, so it’ll look tidy. But it’s small, weak, and inconsistent. If you’re desperate for a paddle, that’s the window. The afternoon holds similar size, 3 ft, but the wind switches to a light cross-on from the NNW, making it a bit bumpier.
Sunday morning the 19th is glassy – wind from the ENE at only 3 mph – but the swell is gone, back down to 1.0 ft. It’s pretty, but you won’t be riding much.
The next little bump comes early on Wednesday the 22nd. We see a bit more size, 4 ft from the NW with a 5-second period, and the combined energy hits 85. The wind is a gentle cross-shore from the NW, so it’s not clean, but it’s the biggest we get in the whole run. It’s still small, short period, and the water is a very unusual 67° – that’s way warmer than normal for this time of year, about 9° above average. That’s a real oddity.
After that, it’s back to almost nothing. There’s a faint sign of life on Saturday the 25th with a weak 2 ft NW swell in the morning, but that’s it. The rest of the run into the end of July and the first day of August is flat, flat, flat. A few glassy mornings for a swim, but not a wave to be had.
If you’re looking for a wave, this isn’t your fortnight. The only time you might get wet is during those small windows on the 18th or 22nd, but don’t expect much. It’s a real desert out there.
Stay patient, lads. It’ll come back.
Rusty.
