The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – it’s a grim outlook for Port Bruce over the next 16 days. The finder is showing nothing but zeros across the board. There’s simply no surf on offer right now and that flat spell is set to run all the way through to Thursday the 20th of August. We’re talking a solid 16-day stretch with no waves to speak of.

The water temp is sitting at 70°, which is 3° colder than the norm for this time of year – a bit nippier than usual, but nothing too wild.

For the whole period, the combined energy of all swells is zilch (0). Don’t bother checking the charts; there’s no swell height, no period, and no direction to get excited about. What we do have is a lot of wind. Most days it’s onshore or cross-onshore from the SW or SSW, gusting up to 12–16 mph, which would chop up anything if there were waves.

There are a couple of moments where the wind might clean up – like Tuesday the 11th morning with a light northerly offshore, and Wednesday the 12th morning with glassy conditions from the NNE. But with zero swell, clean conditions don’t matter. Even the cross-offshore northwesterlies later in the second week are just blowing over a flat lake.

Port Bruce is an exposed break that can handle a SW swell, and the guidance says it’s consistent when there’s swell, with crowds sometimes. But right now, it’s a total flat spell. For an area like this, a blank run is more normal, but it tends not to stay poor for long – forecasts can change. Keep an eye on it.

Rusty.
