The Lowdown

Alright, let’s break this down. The next couple of weeks at Pier One (reef) are mostly a bummer. The wind is locked in from the ENE, blowing cross-onshore, and it doesn’t let up. The first week has swell running 4ft to 6ft, but the period is short—mostly 7 to 8 seconds—and the energy is moderate but messy (168 to 565). Every session is “poor surf conditions” with choppy lines. Water temp is about 80°, no big anomaly.

We do get a bigger pulse hitting on Saturday the 15th and into Sunday the 16th. Saturday is a no-go: 10ft to 12ft of swell, but a strong breeze at 25 mph with rain showers. That’s lumpy, messy, and only for the experts. The energy is very strong (2218 to 3122), but wind ruins it.

Sunday the 16th is the one to circle. The swell settles to 10ft, still heavy, but the wind shifts to ESE and turns cross-offshore. By the afternoon, it’s 10ft from the E with an 8-second period, a gentle breeze at 9 mph, and the call is clean. Energy is still strong (1960). It won’t be glassy, but that cross-offshore will scrub the chop. This is your best shot, but it’s for experienced folks only given the size. Tide might play a role, and it’s a marginal call, but Sunday afternoon is it.

After that, the second week fades back to 4ft to 6ft, cross and cross-onshore winds, short periods, and energy dropping to 116 to 308. Nothing to chase.

So, there’s a long stretch of poor surf until Sunday the 16th, then another dry spell. The only real highlight is Sunday afternoon—if you can handle it.

Rusty.
