The Lowdown

G’day, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s shaping up for Pereque-Acu over the next couple of weeks. It’s a bit of a slow burn this time, with some patience needed, but there’s a couple of windows that’ll get the blood pumping if you time it right.

Right out of the gate, we’re not exactly firing. Wednesday afternoon (5 August) gives you tiny 2ft waves from the SSE with a glassy surface and a nice, long 11-second period. The water’s sitting at 72°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year—that’s a bit of a treat for your bare skin. The combined energy is moderate (123), so it’s surfable, but honestly, just very ordinary. Not a standout. Thursday and Friday are flatliners with poor conditions and next-to-no swell, so don’t bother.

Now, Saturday afternoon (8 August) is where things start to get a little interesting. We see a jump to 6ft from the south, with a very long 15-second period—proper groundswell energy coming through. The combined energy is strong (1469), and that period means better shaped waves and longer lulls between sets, making the paddle out easier. But the wind is cross-onshore and light, and the forecast tags it as marginal. Given it’s a sheltered beginner spot, those longer-period south swells can line up nicely here, but the cross-onshore breeze will mess with the face a bit. It’s worth a look if you’re an experienced surfer, but it’s not perfect.

Sunday (9 August) holds 4ft from the south with a 13-second period, but the wind stays cross or cross-onshore, and conditions are poor. Skip it.

Monday morning (10 August) is the first real highlight. You’ve got 5ft from the SSE, 11-second period, and glassy conditions with a slight air. The combined energy is moderate to strong (572). The wind is glass and the water’s still a touch warmer than average. This is clean, fun-sized surf for Pereque-Acu. Not huge, but the offshore wind (E at 5 km/h) will keep it smooth. This is your best bet in the first week—get out there Monday morning.

Tuesday (11 August) and Wednesday (12 August) are a write-off with onshore winds and light rain messing up the shape.

Thursday morning (13 August) is another glassy moment. 4ft from the south, 12-second period, calm winds, combined energy moderate (468). It’s not big, but it’s clean. A good session for a beginner or someone wanting a cruisy ride without the hassle.

Friday through to Sunday (14-16 August) are messy. The swell holds around 4ft to 7ft on Sunday morning (16 August), but the wind is cross or cross-onshore, often choppy. That 7ft on Sunday morning from the SSE with a 13-second period has a strong 1520 energy reading, but that ENE cross wind at 10 km/h will kill the quality. For this sheltered beginner spot, that size and period might be a bit much anyway, and the conditions aren’t clean enough to make it a standout.

Monday (17 August) eases back to 3ft from the SSE, glassy, surfable but ordinary.

Then we look into the second week. The standout in the long range is Thursday morning (20 August). You’re looking at 4ft from the south, a 13-second period, combined energy moderate-strong (463), and glassy conditions with calm wind. This one is promising but less certain given how far out it is. Clean lines, good period, no wind—if it holds, that’s the best session of the entire forecast.

Overall, Pereque-Acu is a fairly consistent spot, and these gaps of poor days won’t last. Keep an eye on Monday 10th morning and Thursday 20th morning—those are your two windows for clean, enjoyable waves.

Rusty.
