Maresias Surf Forecast and Surf Report

G’day, I’m Rusty, and I’ve had a good look at what’s coming up for Maresias. We’ve got a bit of a slow start, but don’t write it off – there’s some serious potential further down the line. The water is sitting at 71°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you can leave the steamer at home for now.

The first few days are pretty ordinary. Saturday morning, the 5th of September, you’ll find some small 2 ft swell from the SSE with a period of 10 seconds – it’s surfable but very ordinary, with weak energy (114). The wind is glassy though, so if you’re desperate for a paddle, it’s not completely hopeless. Saturday afternoon drops even further to 1 ft. Sunday the 6th is a write-off onshore slop, so stay on land.

Now, Monday the 7th is where things start to get interesting. The swell jumps to a solid 7 ft from the S, period 10 seconds, and the wind goes glassy on the morning session. The combined energy is moderate to strong (987), and the report says “very good surf conditions.” This is a standout for the first week. Maresias is exposed to the south, so this S swell will wrap in nicely. The morning is glassy, but the afternoon turns cross-off with a light NE breeze, keeping it clean. Tuesday the 8th follows with 5 ft from the ESE, period 8 seconds, and glassy conditions all day – another really good, clean day for the intermediate crew.

The next real standout comes on Monday the 14th of September. This is a big one. We’ve got a 12 ft SSE swell, period 12 seconds, and the combined energy is massive (3199). That’s strong to very strong wave energy. The wind is light and cross-off from the ENE, keeping it clean. This is excellent surf, but it’s for experienced surfers only – 12 ft is big, and the long period (12 seconds) means it’ll be powerful. Maresias being a beach break, that long period might make it a bit straight, but the quality is there. Tuesday the 15th still has 7 ft SE swell, period 11 seconds, with glassy conditions in the morning – another excellent day for the crew who can handle it.

After that, the swell backs off a bit, but Wednesday the 16th still has some energy, though the wind turns cross onshore, so it’s messy. Then Thursday the 17th is clean again with 4 ft SE swell, period 10 seconds – good conditions, but not the standout of the earlier days.

The last notable mention is Sunday the 20th of September. A 7 ft ESE swell, period 8 seconds, with light cross-off winds from the NE. The combined energy is moderate (690) and the report says “very good surf conditions.” It’s a solid end to the forecast window.

So, my pick for the best on offer is Monday the 14th – that 12 ft SSE groundswell with clean cross-off winds is a proper session for the experienced. The backup is Monday the 7th, with that 7 ft S swell and glassy morning. Crowds at Maresias are often an issue, so expect company, especially on the good days.
