Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you—this is a tough one. The next 16 days at Ocean Avenue are looking pretty grim. The data shows a long stretch of poor surf with no real standouts to get excited about. We’re talking about a full 16 days of wall-to-wall marginal conditions.
The first recommendation pops up on Tuesday, August 4th, but it’s a dud. We’ve got a tiny 2ft swell from the east, with a short, weak period of 7 seconds. The combined energy is a measly 40, and it’s coming with a cross-onshore wind from the ESE at 9 mph. The water temp is sitting at 83°, which is pretty normal for this time of year, but that’s where the good news ends. It’s just poor surf.
The pattern doesn’t change much. Through the rest of the first week, it’s a constant story of small, weak swell (1ft to 3ft), short periods (4 to 8 seconds), and cross-onshore winds. The combined energy climbs a bit, hitting a moderate 138 on Saturday morning, August 8th, but it’s still accompanied by a gentle cross-onshore breeze that keeps things choppy and messy.
The second week doesn’t offer any relief. From August 12th onward, the swell drops back to a pathetic 1ft. There are a few brief moments of clean conditions—like on the morning of Wednesday, August 12th, with a light offshore wind from the WSW, or on Sunday morning, August 16th, with a light cross-offshore breeze. But with that tiny east-southeast swell and combined energy barely reaching 30, it’s simply not enough to push a rideable wave.
The bottom line is there’s nothing here worth paddling out for. This is a blank run of 16 days. For a sandbar like Ocean Avenue, which is "fairly consistent" normally, this is a rough patch.
