The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at Northcott.
It’s a pretty bleak picture for the next 16 days, to be honest. There’s not a single session that I’d paddle out for, given the info we have. We’ve got a long stretch of northwesterlies and westerlies just tearing it up, with most days showing onshore or cross-onshore wind and choppy, poor surf.
We kick off Wednesday the 19th with rain showers and a gusty 12 mph cross-on from the WNW, with weak 3 ft of swell at a short 6 seconds. The combined energy is a paltry 122 – that’s barely a bump. Wind ramps up to 19 mph on the 20th, and swell height picks up to 6 ft, but it’s all onshore junk with energy jumping to 479, but zero quality.
We get a bit of a clean-up on the morning of Friday the 21st – light offshore cross-off from the north at 12 mph, but the swell drops to a tiny 3 ft at 8 seconds. The energy is only 139 so the waves would be weak and wonky. Saturday the 22nd is the same story: clean but absolutely tiny at 2 ft. We then hit a total flat spell from Sunday the 23rd right through to Tuesday the 26th morning, with swell hovering around 0.7 ft to 2 ft. It’s dead.
Then Wednesday the 26th morning sees a jump in size to 6 ft from the west, but it’s onshores from the WSW at 12 mph and the energy is 377. Still, poor conditions. Thursday the 27th afternoon isn’t much better, 4 ft and onshore with 302 energy. Keep scrolling.
The only window that even gets a *marginal* score is Wednesday morning, 2nd of September. We’ve got 6 ft of west swell at 8 seconds, energy of 491, and light cross-shore winds from the SSW at 9 mph. It wouldn’t be great – it'd be a bumpy, messy, cross-shore day, but it's the only thing that even gets close to rideable in the whole outlook. Even then, it’s still scored as marginal.
Once we hit the end of the first week of September, the wind firms up again from the west and the swell drops away, crushing any hope.
Honestly, for Northcott, there is no standout session in this entire 16-day window. It’s a long, dry stretch of onshore wind and poor-to-nonexistent surf. Don’t bother waxing the board just yet.
Stay patient,
Rusty
