Northcott Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what we've got on the cards.

Honestly, it's a tough stretch ahead for Northcott. We're looking at a solid 16-day window, but there's a big, ugly gap at the start with no real surf on offer. For the next two weeks, the conditions are just plain messy. It's not until Monday the 28th that we finally see something worth paddling out for.

From the 13th right through to the 27th, it's a write-off. We've got a constant stream of moderate to fresh cross-onshore winds messing up the surface. Swell sizes bob around from about 2ft up to 8ft, but with those winds and short, weak periods mostly under 10 seconds, the energy is just chopped up and lumpy. The combined swell energy never really gets going strong enough to overcome the wind, sitting mostly in the moderate range (between 39 and 902), but it's all for nothing when it's blown out. Even the bigger pulse around 8ft on Sunday the 20th with a long period of 14 seconds is ruined by a fresh cross-onshore breeze. That kind of groundswell would normally be a treat for a point or reef, but the wind makes it a mess.

For a break that's fairly consistent, it's a real bummer. But that's the way it goes sometimes.

Now, the one true standout in this whole outlook is the very last session. On Monday morning the 28th of September, things finally line up. We get a light breeze from the east that's actually offshore for Northcott. The swell is only about 3ft from the west, with a 10-second period. The combined energy is 167, which is moderate, but the key here is the wind. That offshore flow will clean everything right up. The report says "clean" and that's music to my ears. It'll be small, but for a surfer who's been staring at 16 days of junk, those clean, lined-up little waves will feel like a gift. The swell direction is straight from the west, which is the optimum direction for this spot. It's not going to be a huge day, but the quality will be there.

So, if you're hanging for a surf, don't bother until that Monday the 28th. It's the only real light in the tunnel. You might have to share it, as crowds are "sometimes" a thing here, but with it being small and clean, it'll be worth it.
