The Lowdown
Hey crew, Rusty checking in from Northcott.
It’s been a long, flat spell. The first week and a half is basically a washout. We’re looking at days of tiny, weak surf. You’ll see clean offshore winds in the mornings, but the swell is barely a bump – mostly 0.3ft to 2ft, with combined energy numbers in the low double digits to fifties. It’s all “poor surf conditions.” A real bummer.
The first real pulse comes on Thursday, 3rd September. The afternoon picks up to 5ft from the W, with a 10-second period and combined energy hitting 426 – that’s moderate power. The wind is cross-off from the NE at 12 mph, keeping it clean. It’s still a marginal call, but it’s something.
The best session of the whole outlook is Friday morning, 4th September. We’ve got a 4ft west swell, 9-second period, and combined energy at 243. But the real story is the wind: glassy, with a light SE breeze at just 3 mph. That is a major positive. The water is 66°F, which is 4°F warmer than average – a nice, warm morning.
After that, it fades fast. The rest of the second week is smaller and choppier with onshore winds.
So, to put it plain: Friday morning, 4th September is your only real standout. It’s a clean, glassy 4ft west swell at Northcott. Crowds are possible, but with conditions like that, it’s worth the company. The rest is a waiting game. This area goes flat sometimes, and this is one of those times. Stay tuned, but don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
