Alright, let’s have a look at what’s on the table for Northcott over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a bit of a tough stretch for us here. The entire 16-day window is looking pretty bleak. There’s really nothing to get excited about. We’ve got a long gap of almost two weeks until the very end of the period where a small chance might roll in, but even that’s not looking good.
Starting out from Saturday July 4th, it’s flat and messy. Small swell around 2ft from the west, but it’s onshore wind at 16 mph. The water’s about 63°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year—a real standout, but it doesn’t help the waves. Combined energy is weak at 134, and the conditions are just poor.
Sunday July 5th and Monday July 6th don’t offer any relief. The swell stays tiny, between 2ft and 2ft, still straight onshore from the west. Winds are light to gentle, but the surf is just not there. Energy drops right down.
Tuesday July 7th is the same story—2ft to 2ft, onshore, weak energy.
We get a little glimmer on Wednesday July 8th when the wind swings around to a light northeast, giving us a cross-offshore breeze at just 3 mph. The swell is still only 2ft from the west, period 9 seconds. Energy is 63. It’s clean, but it’s tiny. Not worth paddling out for real waves.
Thursday July 9th and Friday July 10th stay similar. On Friday July 10th, the swell bumps up to 3ft from the west, period 9 seconds, and energy climbs to 106 and 108. Winds are cross-offshore again from the east-northeast. The wave comment says “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” It’s the best of a bad bunch, but that’s not saying much.
Saturday July 11th sees a weird shift: a 4ft swell from the north-northwest but with a short period of just 6 seconds. That’s windswell, not proper groundswell. Energy at 135 is moderate, but with onshore-type winds, it’s still poor.
From Sunday July 12th onward, the swell collapses again. Offshore winds from the east on Sunday July 12th at 12 mph keep it clean, but the swell is only 3ft from the north, period just 5 seconds. Energy 55. It’s a clean but empty lineup.
Monday July 13th is even smaller: 1ft from the west, fresh offshore breeze at 19 mph. Energy down to 22. That’s barely a ripple.
The rest of the week—Tuesday July 14th through Saturday July 18th—is a mix of cross-onshore and onshore winds, small swell never getting above 3ft, and short periods. Nothing surf-worthy.
Finally, on Saturday July 18th, there’s a glimmer: a 0.7ft swell from the west-northwest with a very long period of 13 seconds. That’s a proper groundswell, but the height is laughable. Combined energy is only 38. It’s not going to break properly at Northcott.
Then Sunday July 19th is the same story—1ft from the west-northwest, onshore wind.
There are no standouts here at all. None. If you’re desperate, maybe paddle out on Friday July 10th for a tiny, clean wave, but that’s about it.
Rusty.
