The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for our stretch of coast.
Honestly, the next 16 days are looking like a write-off for us. We've got a real flat spell settling in, and there's hardly anything to get excited about. The first decent bit of energy doesn't show up until around Sunday the 26th, but even then it comes with a big caveat. It's a long wait with very little to offer.
The only break we've got to look at is Northcott. Come the morning of Sunday the 26th, a new swell tries to push in at about 6ft from the WNW with a period of 7 seconds. That combined energy is reading 337, which is moderate. But the problem is the wind – a moderate cross-onshore breeze is going to trash it, leaving things choppy and lumpy. It's surfable for an intermediate, but it's not going to be pretty. The water temp is 64°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you won't need the thickest wetsuit.
Later that afternoon, the swell pushes up to 6ft with the same short 7-second period, and the energy jumps to 366. But again, the wind kicks up to a 22 mph fresh cross-onshore, making it lumpy as all hell. This setup would be more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing, to be honest.
After that, it’s back to tiny dribble. The only potential glimmer is on Sunday the 2nd of August, when we get a clean 5ft swell from the W with an 8-second period, and gentle cross-onshore winds. The energy is 228. It's a small improvement, but nothing to write home about.
Overall, there are no standouts here. It’s a classic case of "check back next week". The long-range promise on the 2nd is there, but it's a long way out. Keep your expectations low and your wax dry.
Rusty.
