The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Northcott. I’ll be straight with you: it’s a tough stretch. We’ve got a long gap to open the period with basically nothing worth paddling out for.

The whole 16-day window from August 10th through to August 25th is a real dud. There are no good surf options on offer here. The first few days are a write-off with tiny, weak swell and messy conditions. From Monday the 10th right through to Sunday the 16th of August, you’re looking at poor surf conditions – the swell is ankle-snappers at best, and the combined wave energy is weak, barely cracking 42 (42) at its highest on Monday morning. The water temp is 66°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you can enjoy a warm float but don't expect a wave.

Monday afternoon on the 17th of August, we get a clean cross-off wind on a tiny 1ft swell, but let’s not kid ourselves – that’s not surf. There’s a little pulse of energy on Tuesday the 18th of August, with a 4ft west swell arriving in the morning and a moderate offshore wind from the east-northeast. The combined energy jumps to 97, which is still weak. It’s rideable, but very ordinary. You’d be scratching for a waist-high set.

The only window that shows the faintest heartbeat is around Thursday the 20th of August. The swell is still small at 3ft from the west, but it's got a 9-second period and clean cross-off winds from the northeast all day. The combined energy hits 107, which is still weak but at least there’s a bit of push. It’s your best bet in a very quiet spell, but honestly, it’s more of a longboard/sup day than a proper surf.

Later on, around Tuesday the 25th of August, we see the swell trying to build again to 3ft from the west with a 9-second period and combined energy reading 173. Problem is, it's blown out by a moderate cross-onshore wind from the southwest. The size is there for a fun wave, but the conditions will be choppy and messy.

In short, there’s not a single standout session in this whole outlook. If you’re desperate, the cleanest but smallest waves are on Tuesday the 18th of August morning, or the slightly bigger but more textured conditions on Tuesday the 25th of August. For a spot that’s fairly consistent, this is a blank run, but forecasts can change, so don’t lose all hope.

This is Rusty, signing off.
