Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Righto, grab a coffee and settle in, ‘cause the surf forecast for Newdicks Beach is a bit of a mixed bag. The pattern for the next couple of weeks is all about a long, quiet start, then a real heater of a swell event in the second week. Don’t get too excited just yet, because the first week or so is pretty flat.
The first real chance of a wave is on Monday the 6th of July, but it’s not looking good. We’ve got a 8ft swell from the north with a short 8-second period, and the wind is a messy onshore from the north. It’s cross-on and choppy, making for some pretty ordinary conditions. The combined energy is moderate at 684, but the poor wind kills it for a real surf. It’s honestly more of a windy mess than anything.
Things go downhill fast after that. From Tuesday the 7th right through to Saturday the 12th of July, we’re looking at tiny surf that never really gets going, with heights under 1ft and barely any energy (down to a paltry 4-16). There’s a brief moment on Wednesday the 8th of July with a clean, offshore SSW breeze and a 4ft swell, but the energy is still weak and the swell is too small to get excited about. This is a true dead zone for waves.
Now, the real standout is way off in the distance, and it’s a big one. Jump ahead to Sunday the 19th of July. That morning, the forecast shows a solid 8ft swell from the northeast with a nice 10-second period. The wind is light and cross-off from the SSE, so it’ll be clean. The combined energy absolutely explodes to 1292, which is a powerful, punchy swell. This is the best of the whole outlook, and it’s promising that there’s another good run on Monday the 20th of July as well, with glassy conditions and 6ft to 6ft waves.
Granted, Sunday’s 8ft is getting into the "experts only" territory for a beach break, but for experienced surfers, that’s a proper session. Keep an eye on it, as long-range forecasts can change, but as it stands, that Sunday the 19th of July morning is the only true standout in the whole 16 days. For the rest of the second week, like Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th, it’s back to small and ordinary.
So, to sum it up: the next ten days are a write-off. The one to circle is the morning of Sunday, 19th July. It’s a long way off, but that’s the one with the power to get your heart pumping. Cheers, Rusty.
