The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at the outlook for Newdicks Beach.
Right off the bat, it’s a tough start. We’re looking at a long stretch of flat, small, and poor conditions. The first week is basically a write-off, with nothing surfable on offer. The swell is tiny, the energy is weak, and for days on end the waves are just too small.
The first real pulse of energy shows up around the 22nd of July, with swell height building to 3ft and then 4ft, but the wind is messy and cross-shore, so it’s still not the good stuff. It’s gonna be a waiting game until the 23rd.
The standout window is the morning of the 23rd of July. The swell jumps to 8ft from the NNE, with a period of 10 seconds and a massive combined energy of 1360. The wind is offshore and clean, so the surface will be smooth. That’s a big, powerful swell for a break that’s exposed, and it’s going to be too big for beginners, but for the experienced crew, that’s the one to circle. The 24th and 25th keep the size up, with the 25th morning seeing 8ft and 1763 energy, still with clean offshore wind, but it’s a long period groundswell (12 seconds), so expect it to be a bit more lined up and better suited to the reef sections.
The 27th offers a small drop in size to 5ft, but the wind is clean and light, with the swell coming from the ENE, which is a good direction for this spot. It’s a solid option for a quieter session.
Water temp is about 58°, which is pretty normal for this time of year, so no big surprises there.
The break is inconsistent, so you’ve got to pick your windows. The crowds can show up sometimes, but with the size on those bigger days, it’ll keep the numbers down.
Rusty.
