The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty. Let's have a look at what's on the table for our local stretch.
Honestly, it's a grim run for the next 16 days. We're looking at a long, dry spell with barely a wave worth paddling for. The only spot on the radar is Newdicks Beach, but even that's a struggle. There's a solid gap of nothing worthwhile from now until the very end of the month. The first hint of anything with a bit of push doesn't arrive until the 4th of September, and even that comes with strings attached.
The setup at Newdicks Beach is a beach and reef affair, exposed to the swell, but it's inconsistent and crowds are possible. The water temp is about average for the time of year.
For the first week, it's a write-off. We're looking at tiny, weak swell with poor energy readings. Swell heights are stuck below 2 ft for days on end, with combined energy values in the single digits or low tens (like 5 to 9). The wind is often cross or cross-off, but with no waves, it doesn't matter. It's flat, clean, and boring. On the 29th, there's a little bump to 4 ft from the north (energy at 167), but the period is short, around 7 seconds, so it's just a messy, weak close-out. Not worth getting wet for.
The only thing that catches my eye is the morning of the 4th of September. A solid 6 ft swell from the north-northwest, with a period of 7 seconds, pushes the combined energy up to 315. That's a real bit of energy. But here's the heartbreaker: the wind is onshore, light, but still cross-on from the northwest. It's not clean, and the forecast just calls it marginal. For the afternoon, it jumps to 7 ft, but the wind strengthens to a moderate breeze from the north-northwest, making it choppy and poor. This setup is borderline for experts, but with the onshore wind, it's more likely to be a messy, blown-out mess than a good session. If you're a beginner, 6 ft is already too much, and 7 ft is definitely out of your league.
After that, it drops back to tiny and clean, but again, no real swell.
So, the bottom line? There's nothing to get excited about. The 4th of September is the only pulse of energy in the whole 16-day window, but it's not going to be pretty. For a spot that's already inconsistent, this is a particularly flat run. Keep your gear dry and wait for the next forecast update.
Rusty.
