The Lowdown

Mate, I’m gonna level with you – it’s been a rough stretch for surf around here. The whole 16-day window is looking pretty flat and grim, with hardly any rideable waves on offer. The first real chance of anything surfable doesn’t show up until Thursday afternoon, 30th July, and even then it’s barely a pulse. Before that, there’s a solid run of days with tiny swell and poor conditions – nothing worth paddling out for. The guidance says Miami Platja is inconsistent and mainly for beginners, so this kind of blank run isn’t totally out of the ordinary for the area. But don’t lose hope – forecasts can shift, and it tends not to stay this quiet forever.

The only spot that scrapes a mention is Miami Platja. On the afternoon of Thursday 30th July, we finally see a bit of energy – a weak ESE swell around 2ft, coming from the east-southeast, with a period of 7 seconds. Combined swell energy is just 62 (weak), so it’s not powerful. The wind is a clean cross-offshore from the WSW, which will keep the surface tidy. It says “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions” – that’s about as good as it gets. Water temperature is 81°, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year, so you won’t need a thick wetsuit. The break is exposed to swells, and the optimum direction is ESE, so this one actually lines up. But it’s inconsistent, so don’t expect much. Crowds are only sometimes, so you might have it quiet.

A couple of other mornings show cleaner wind – like Friday 25th July with glassy conditions and a tiny 0.7ft, 7-second E swell (energy 7) – but it’s just too small to do anything. Later, on Wednesday 30th July morning, there’s a bit more size (3ft, 6-second E swell, energy 76) with light cross-shore wind, but it’s still weak and the wave comment says poor surf. Nothing stands out as a true winner.

Honestly, keep an eye on the longer-range forecast, but for now, the only window worth wetting a leash is that Thursday afternoon 30th July – and keep your expectations low.
