Miami Platja Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, I’m Rusty, and I’ve looked over the local surf situation for you. Let’s be real – it’s a tough stretch ahead for the Miami Platja area. The whole 16-day window is looking flat, small, and pretty ordinary. There’s really nothing here that’s going to get a surfer out of bed. We’re looking at a long, dry spell with no real standouts to speak of.

The first bit of swell that’s even worth mentioning comes on Wednesday the 9th of September. We’ve got a weak pulse moving in Wednesday morning, with a swell from the South at 2 feet, but the period is a short 6 seconds. Combined energy is only 22 – that’s weak. The wind is a clean offshore from the WNW at 12 mph, which is a positive, but there’s just not enough push to make it worthwhile. By Wednesday afternoon, it’s a little better – 3 feet from the East, still 6 seconds, with a combined energy of 73. Wind is still clean offshore, but this is still very small, mushy, and ordinary. The score is low for a reason.

After that Wednesday window, it’s back to near-flat conditions. We get a few tiny pulses over the following days, but nothing that breaks the “poor surf” barrier. Thursday the 10th is a small 1 feet and 1 foot with offshore wind, but again, no energy. Friday the 11th through to the end of the period on the 22nd of September is a mix of glassy mornings, cross-shore breezes, and tiny, weak swells. The water temperature here is about average for the time of year, nothing weird going on.

Miami Platja is an exposed beach break, but it’s inconsistent, and it’s rarely seeing any worthwhile waves. The optimum swell direction is from the ESE, but the swells we’re getting are small, short-period, and from a variety of directions. For a beginner, the tiny 0.6 feet to 3 feet waves might be managed, but the quality is just not there. If you’re an experienced surfer, there’s nothing here. Honestly, with the small, weak swell and the wind not being onshore, the setup looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer on the few days there’s a puff of wind.

Bottom line: there’s no good surf on offer in this 16-day window. The breaks are flat, the energy is weak, and the forecasts are consistent in showing nothing. This is a normal blank run for this area, but it’s a bummer. Keep an eye on it because forecasts can change, but for now, I’d say save the wax.
