The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. We’ve got a solid 16-day window, but it’s not a straight-up beginner’s party. The whole run is at Mama Losmen Left, a reef setup that’s for advanced surfers only. We’re looking at a steady diet of solid SSW and S groundswell, but the wind is a constant cross-off from the SE. That’s the kicker – it keeps the face clean but the paddle-out will have some pull. The water is sitting at 79°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year.
The action kicks off Thursday morning, the 6th. We’ve got a clean 7 ft swell from the SSW with a very long 16-second period. The combined energy is solid (2493), and with that clear sky and cross-off breeze, it’s going to be a proper session for experienced crew. The waves will have some serious shape and power. For the afternoon, the wind picks up a notch, making it a bit more challenging, but the swell holds.
Friday the 7th sees a bump up to 8 ft from the SSW, still with that long period, and the energy is punching harder (3718). The wind is a steady cross-off, so it’s a step up in power. The morning is the pick of the day. Saturday the 8th and Sunday the 9th see the swell settle a touch, but the wind gets stronger, making it a bit bumpy. It’s still surfable, but the quality drops.
Now, here’s the real standout. Hold onto your boards for Thursday the 13th. The swell jumps to 12 ft from the S with a 17-second period and the combined energy is massive (7326). The wind is lighter, a gentle breeze from the SE. This is a big, powerful, clean groundswell. It’s going to be a serious, all-time session at Mama Losmen Left, but only for the experts. The waves will be thick with a lot of energy. This is the best on offer in the whole window.
The run continues through the second week. The swell fluctuates between 8 ft and 10 ft, with the wind staying fresh from the SE. The energy remains high. There’s another promising pulse on Wednesday the 19th with 10 ft from the SSW and strong energy (5983). It’s consistent, but that wind is always there, keeping it from being perfect. The later part of the run, from the 16th onwards, sees the swell drop a bit, but there are still waves in the 5 ft to 8 ft range. It’s a long stretch of decent, but not epic, surf.
Overall, this is a run for the experienced crew. The constant cross-off wind is the main flavor. The best day is undoubtedly Thursday the 13th of August – that’s your window for a serious, powerful session. The forecast is solid for the first week, the second week is promising but a little less certain on the details.
Rusty.
