The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's get into it. We've got a bit of a mixed bag on offer at Loji over the next couple of weeks. The forecast is pretty much a long run of so-so conditions, with a couple of moments that might make it worth the paddle. Don't expect any easy days early on, but stick with me.

Alright, Loji's a reef and point setup, and it’s inconsistent, so you gotta pick your moments. The water's sitting at 81°, which is right about average for this time of year.

Looking at the charts, the first real highlight doesn’t come until Monday the 14th of September. The morning looks glassy, dead calm with a light southerly breeze at just 3 mph. That’s the cleanest we’ll see it. Swell will be a solid 6 ft from the SW, with a period of 16 seconds. That's a long-period groundswell, so the wave shape should be good, but with that period, expect longer lulls between sets. The energy is moderate at 1651. It’s excellent conditions for experienced surfers, so if you know the lineup and can handle a bit of size, this is your window. Afternoon gets a bit bumpy again.

The other standout is way out there on Sunday the 20th of September. The afternoon session is looking clean with a cross-offshore breeze from the ESE at 9 mph. The swell will be 5 ft from the SW, period 14 seconds. The energy is moderate at 1147. It’s another one for the experienced crew, with clean faces. It’s a promising call, but it’s over a week away, so keep an eye on it.

For the rest of the run, it’s a lot of cross and cross-onshore winds. The swell hangs around the 5 ft to 8 ft mark for the first few days. On Tuesday the 8th of September, the afternoon sees a bump to 8 ft from the SSW with a 16-second period, but that cross-shore wind at 12 mph will put a chop on it. The energy is strong at 4204. With that size and the wind, it’s really only going to be for the experts, and even then, it’s going to be a battle. For the less experienced, stay away when it’s over 5 ft, and definitely when it hits over 8 ft.

Honestly, for the most part, the setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing with all that cross-shore wind and consistent size. There’s a long gap of nothing special until that glassy morning on the 14th, so don't get your hopes up too early. Forecasts can change though, so keep checking back.

Rusty.
