The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, let’s look at what’s on the table for Cimaja.
We’ve got a classic reef break setup, and it’s looking like a bit of a slow burn with a real standout window later on. The water is sitting at 82°, dead on average for this time of year, so nothing weird there.
The first real call to get in the water is Sunday morning (19 July). It’s glassy, clean as a whistle, with a light 3 mph offshore breeze from the SSW. Swell is a fun 4 ft from the SW with a 13-second period, which is solid groundswell. The wave energy is moderate (798). It’s not huge, but it’s really clean and the conditions are perfect for a long session. The break is very consistent, so you won’t be waiting around. Keep in mind, crowds are possible here.
The following week is a bit of a mixed bag. The swell pulses up a bit, especially around Monday morning (20 July) with 6 ft, but the wind turns cross-shore and the face gets a little lumpy. It stays marginal through the week with periods dropping into the 8-9 second range by Thursday and Friday, which is a bit short and weak. There’s a decent-looking 5 ft on Saturday morning (25 July) but the wind is cross-onshore, so it’s not firing clean.
Things settle down by Sunday morning (26 July) with a glassy 2 ft, then it picks up again. The real gold is in the first few days of August. Saturday morning (1 August) is glassy, 5 ft from the SW, 16-second period, clean lines, and the energy is moderate (1498). This looks like a proper session. Sunday (2 August) is even better – both morning and afternoon are glassy with 4 ft to 4 ft, and the energy is up to 1527. That’s your best bet for a long, clean, fun day.
But the standout – the one to circle on the calendar – is Monday morning (3 August). It’s glassy, 10 ft from the SSW with an 18-second period. That’s a massive, long-period groundswell. The energy is through the roof (5641). This is for experts only – it’s going to be big, powerful, and a bit of a paddle. The reef will handle it well, but if you’re not comfortable with that size, sit it out. The afternoon stays solid but picks up a bit of cross-shore wind.
Honestly, I’d be stoked on the 2nd, but the 3rd is the one that’ll get the heart pumping. There’s a bit of a lull in the middle of the window, but the end of the 16-day run is where it’s at. Keep your eyes on that.
Rusty.
