The Lowdown

G’day, Rusty here, with a look at what’s shaping up at Little Point over the next couple of weeks.

Honestly, for the first week and a half, it’s pretty grim. We’ve got a continuous run of small, weak swell—nothing over 3 ft—and the wind is mostly cross-on or onshore, keeping the surface messy. The combined wave energy sits in the low-to-moderate range (162 to 490), but the quality just isn’t there. The water is a very unusual 75°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s little comfort when the surf is flat and choppy.

The first real hint of a pulse comes on Monday 18th August. The morning shows a 1 ft swell from the SW with a nice long period of 17 seconds, and the wind goes light offshore from the WSW at 6 mph. That’s clean glassy conditions, but the swell is tiny. The combined energy is only 219, so it’s marginal. The afternoon gets ruined by a moderate cross-shore breeze at 12 mph, so that window is narrow.

The only standout—and I use that word carefully—is the Monday 18th August morning session. At a reef and point break like Little Point, that long-period groundswell (17 seconds) will wrap in nicely, and with glassy offshore wind, the waves will be clean and lined up. But at 1 ft, it’s only going to be fun on a longboard or a mid-length. It’s best for advanced surfers given the fickle nature of this spot, and crowds are likely.

So, the pick of the whole 16-day window is that tiny, clean Monday morning. If you’re a patient surfer, you’ll get a few nice, peeling waves. Otherwise, it’s a long wait for not much.

That’s it from me. Keep your eyes on the horizon.

Rusty.
