The Lowdown
Alright, let's get into it. Little Avalon's the only game in town for this forecast period, and it's a bit of a mixed bag.
The kick-off is this Sunday the 19th, but it's a rough start. We've got a solid 7ft swell from the ENE, with a period of 11 seconds, and a hefty combined energy of 1098. That's a lot of power, but the wind is a cross-shore from the SE, so it's going to be chopped up. It's really only for the experienced crew; the size and the chop will make it a handful. Sunday afternoon drops a little to 7ft, but the wind stays cross, so it's still not great.
The real standout is Monday morning, the 20th. The swell drops a touch to 6ft, still from the ENE with that 11-second period, and the wind goes glassy. That's the magic word. It'll be clean, lined-up, and the energy is still strong at 792. This is the best session on offer, no question. The afternoon goes to an onshore breeze, so don't bother.
Tuesday the 21st sees the swell dropping to 5ft, and the wind is onshore, so it's a write-off. The rest of the week is a slow fade. Wednesday the 22nd has a clean morning with a cross-offshore wind, but the swell is down to 4ft, and the energy is a moderate 242. It's rideable, but not special.
From Thursday the 23rd onwards, the swell just disappears. We're looking at tiny waves, mostly under 3ft, for the next week and a half. The 30th of July and the 31st have some strong offshore winds, but the swell is basically nothing – 0.3ft with a 21-second period? That's just a dream. The energy is in the single digits. There's a brief pulse on the 3rd of August, with a 4ft swell from the SE, but the period is a short 7 seconds, and the wind is cross-off, giving it a score of 0. It's not going to be worth the paddle. So, after Monday morning, it's a long, dry spell until the end of the outlook.
Stick to Monday morning, the 20th, for Little Avalon. That's the one.
Rusty.
