Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Little Avalon’s got cooking for us over the next couple weeks. It’s a bit of a slow burner, but there’s a couple windows that’ll get the blood pumping.
The week starts quiet – real quiet. Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th morning offer a tiny pulse of swell, but with light rain and cross-off winds, you’re basically looking at flat, clean but empty ocean. The combined energy is way down (4), so don’t bother paddling out. The water temp is sitting at a mild 66°, which is about average for this time of year, so no wetsuit dramas.
Then things start to wake up. Tuesday the 7th morning sees a proper push: 4 ft of SE swell at a long 14 seconds, with offshore SSW winds at 12 mph. Combined energy jumps to 471 (moderate). That’s a clean, lined-up groundswell, but it’s only a morning window before the wind swings cross-off in the arvo and kills it. Still, for the advanced crew, that’s a solid session.
Wednesday the 8th morning gets chunky – 8 ft of SE swell at 11 seconds, combined energy roaring to 1818 (strong). That’s expert territory only. Cross-off SSW winds aren’t perfect, but it’s clean. The period is moderate, so it won’t be too straight, but this is a reef break, so it’ll hold shape. Big, raw, and powerful.
Thursday the 9th is the standout. Morning sees 7 ft of SE swell at a nice 10-second period, with offshore SSW winds at just 6 mph – almost glassy. Combined energy sits at 860 (strong). The afternoon is similar, 7 ft SE at 9 seconds, with light cross-off winds. This is the best on offer: excellent conditions, clean faces, and moderate energy. For the advanced surfer who knows Little Avalon (a reef setup), this is the session to circle.
Friday the 10th morning drops right off (2 ft), but the afternoon bounces back to 6 ft SE at 10 seconds, with light cross-off winds. Combined energy is 569 (moderate). Still a decent, surfable option if you missed Thursday.
From Saturday the 11th onward, the surf turns to junk. Tiny swell, messy winds, and poor conditions dominate. There’s a long stretch of flatness from about the 12th all the way through to the 20th of July – almost nine days with nothing worthwhile. A few micro pulses show up on the 21st, with 5 ft SE swell at a short, weak 7-second period (combined energy only 186, weak), so don’t get your hopes up.
Overall, Thursday the 9th is the clear winner. Clean offshore winds, solid 7 ft SE groundswell, and strong energy – that’s your day. Wednesday the 8th morning is for the hardcore looking for size and power. The rest? A whole lot of flat, glassy water and a lot of time to wax your board.
Rusty out.
