Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here. I’ve been staring at Little Avalon for the next couple weeks, and I’ll tell ya straight—it starts flat, has one proper day, then fades into nothing.
Right now, there’s no surf to speak of. From Saturday the 4th through Monday the 6th of July, we’ve got tiny waves from 0.6ft to 1ft, with poor conditions across the board. Don’t bother.
Things finally kick off on Tuesday the 7th of July. The morning brings a 2ft swell from the SE with a long 13-second period and offshore wind from the SSW. The combined energy is moderate at 178. It’s surfable but very ordinary. Then Tuesday afternoon the swell jumps to 10ft from the SE at 11 seconds—that’s a massive combined energy of 1703—but the wind is cross-off and conditions are marginal. Over 8ft, that’s big stuff, only for advanced crew.
The true standout is Wednesday morning, the 8th of July. We’ve got an 8ft swell from the SE at 11 seconds, clean offshore wind from the SSW, and combined energy of 1499. The report says it’s excellent for experienced surfers. This is the session to aim for. Water temp is 67°F, about 2°F above average—noticeably warm for this time of year.
After that, it drops hard. Wednesday arvo goes to 3ft with cross-off wind. Thursday the 9th is 2ft in the morning with a gentle offshore, but it’s not great.
From Friday the 10th all the way through to Sunday the 19th, it’s mostly flat or tiny. There’s a small bump on Saturday the 11th—a 5ft SE swell in the morning with moderate energy (471) and cross-off wind—but it’s only marginal. The rest of that week is dead.
So here’s the takeaway: make your move on Wednesday morning, the 8th of July, at Little Avalon, if you’ve got the skills. Everything else in this 16-day window is either flat or not worth the wet suit. Forecasts can change, so don’t lose hope, but right now it’s a one-shot deal.
Rusty.
