Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here, lettin’ ya know what’s cookin’ at Little Avalon. This is a spot that needs some serious respect – it’s a reef setup for advanced surfers only. The water temp is sitting at around 65.5°, which is pretty normal for this time of year, so no surprises there.
We've got a bit of a quiet start to the period, but things kick off proper on Wednesday morning the 8th of July. That’s the standout session by a long shot. We’re lookin’ at a solid 8.2ft swell pumping in from the SE, with a period of 10 seconds. The energy’s rippin’ at 1810, which is proper strong. Wind’s light from the S at about 9 mph, just a cross-offshore breeze, so it’ll be clean. This is big, powerful surf – definitely not for beginners, this is for the experienced crew only. The swell direction is bang on from the optimum NE direction, so expect some real good lines.
Thursday the 9th of July is another day to keep an eye on. Mornin’ has a 6.2ft swell from the SSE, with a light 3 mph wind. That's almost glassy. The energy is still healthy at 881, and conditions look very good. Thursday afternoon drops a touch to 5.9ft, but still clean with light winds. Good solid days.
Friday the 10th of July brings a 4.6ft swell in the morning, clean with a light WSW breeze. It’s not as punchy, but still worth a paddle.
Now, after that, the surf kinda fades out. From Saturday afternoon the 11th right through to the end of the second week, the swell drops right off into tiny, weak waves or flat spells. There’s a long stretch of small, poor conditions, even through to the 17th of July. That 0.3ft on the 17th Friday afternoon with a 17-second period is just a tease – no energy behind it.
Hold on, though – we get a little glimmer of hope on Saturday morning the 18th of July. A 3.6ft SE swell with an 11-second period rolls in, with clean, light winds. The energy is moderate at 320, and it’s a decent looking wave for the experienced surfer. It’s a week and a half out, so don’t bank on it, but it’s a promising sign after a dry spell.
Everything after that is small, choppy, or blown out by stronger winds. Not much to write home about in the final days of the forecast.
Overall, your best bet is Wednesday the 8th of July – that swell and clean conditions are the real deal. Thursday the 9th is also a good solid option. The crowds can be on you here often, so get in early.
