Table - best surf conditions forecast for Little Avalon over the next 16 days.
Right, let’s chew the fat on Little Avalon. It’s a slow burner, no two ways about it. The first few days are a total dud for any real surfing. We’re talking about knee-high slop, with barely any energy to speak of. There’s a proper gap with nothing doing from the get-go until the weekend.
Things finally start to breathe on Saturday, July 18th. We get a tiny 2 to 3 foot swell pushing in from the east, but it’s short-period junk at 8 seconds. The energy’s still real low. It’s rideable, but it’s not going to fire you up. The wind is light and cross-offshore, so it’ll be clean, but the lack of grunt means it’s more for the foam boards than a proper shortboard.
The magic window, the clear winner in this whole outlook, is from Sunday, July 19th, through to Wednesday, July 22nd. Sunday morning is the absolute diamond. A clean 3 to 4 foot east-northeast swell, with a touch more period at 9 seconds, lifts the energy into a solid 206. And the wind? Glassy. Dead calm. That means Little Avalon could be as smooth as a lake. This is an advanced reef break, so you need your wits about you, and the crowds can be a factor, so get in early. The swell angle is spot-on for the place.
The following days keep the faith. Monday and Tuesday serve up head-high sets from the same east-northeast direction, with the period stretching to 10 seconds. The energy is well into the moderate to strong range. The winds stay light and offshore, making for some really clean, grinding lines. Wednesday morning is another glassy gem, with a solid 3 foot swell.
After Wednesday, things get messy. Onshore winds creep in and the swell drops away. The second week is a return to small, weak conditions, with the odd longer-period pulse on the 26th and 27th getting ruined by rain and strong cross-shore winds.
So, the call is simple. The first week is a write-off. Don’t bother. Your window, and your best shot at something special, is that Sunday through Wednesday stretch. Sunday morning, July 19th, is the one to get excited about.
