The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at the cards for Le Kerou.
Honestly, mate, this is a tough one. The whole 16-day window is a write-off for surfing. There’s not a single session that’s worth paddling out for. The swell is almost non-existent most of the time, and when it does show a bit of size, the wind is absolutely howling onshore or cross-onshore, making it a choppy, lumpy mess. We’re looking at a solid two-week stretch of nothing but "poor surf conditions" across the board.
The first few days, from Sunday the 23rd to Wednesday the 27th of August, are all tiny. We’re talking 1.0ft to 1ft of swell. The combined wave energy barely cracks 50 (22-53), which is just weak. You’d be fighting for dribbles. The wind is mostly a fresh breeze, cross-off or onshore, and the water is about average for this time of year, nothing unusual.
Then Thursday the 27th through Saturday the 29th of August, the swell actually jumps up to 7ft to 10ft, and the combined energy gets strong (589-1255). It sounds promising, but it’s all onshore wind—18 to 22 mph fresh breezes—with risk of thunderstorms and rain. The wave comment is "poor surf conditions." That’s just a washing machine. For a beginner-exposed spot, anything over 8ft is expert-only anyway, and with that wind, it’s not even fun for them. Honestly, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
After that, from the 30th of August into the first week of September, the swell drops back down to 1.0ft to 3ft, with weak energy and persistent cross-onshore winds. A couple of mornings on the 2nd and 3rd of September show a light offshore (NNE) and even a glassy moment (W 3 mph), but the swell is only 1.0ft to 2ft. It’s clean, but there’s nothing to ride.
The run ends on Monday the 7th of September with a 3ft, 12-second groundswell from the W, but the wind is a moderate cross-onshore (12 mph), and the energy is still moderate (174). It’s another "poor surf conditions" call.
So, what’s the bottom line? There are no standouts, no good sessions. It’s a blank run, and for this area, that’s just how it goes sometimes. Don’t sell the board just yet—forecasts can change, but right now, stay home, wax the sticks, and wait for the next system.
Rusty.
