The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, lookin' at Le Kerou in feet and miles per hour.
It’s a tough outlook, mate. Over the next 16 days, we’re fightin' a lot of onshore and cross-onshore wind, and the swell just ain't cooperatin'. Water temp is around 66°F, pretty average for this time of year.
Sunday, the 23rd of August, kicks it off with a tiny 1ft SW groundswell, 12-second period. The 12 mph easterly cross-off wind keeps it messy. The combined energy is weak (38). Not worth wettin' a wetsuit.
Monday the 24th is more of the same—1ft to 1ft SW swell, period dropping to 9 seconds, wind from the east again, then light rain. Energy is low (22-23). No dice.
Tuesday the 25th: wind goes onshore from the SSW at 6-12 mph, swell holds at 1ft, period down to 8 seconds. Energy hits 48, but it's still poor. Wednesday the 26th is all cross-onshore chop with thunderstorms.
Now, Thursday the 27th morning is the big one, but it's messy. Swell jumps to 7ft from the SW, period 9 seconds, and the combined energy goes nuts at 1344—that's strong to very strong. Problem is, onshore winds from the SW at 16 mph and thunderstorms make it dangerous, expert-only. The afternoon drops to 6ft but stays onshore and lumpy.
Friday the 28th through Saturday the 29th hang around 5ft to 5ft, but with fresh cross-onshore winds (16-19 mph) and lumpy chop. Energy is still moderate to strong (277-363). More of a kite day than a paddle day.
Sunday the 30th shows a slight glimmer. Morning has 4ft SW swell with a light southerly cross-onshore breeze (6 mph). Still not great, but the afternoon gets a marginal 5ft SW swell with the wind goin' straight onshore from the SSW at 6 mph. First time we see a score of 1—just the least bad option.
Monday the 31st and Tuesday the 1st of September bring 3ft to 6ft WSW swell, but wind stays cross-onshore or onshore, keepin' it choppy. Tuesday morning, the 1st of September, is actually clean—3ft WSW swell, 9-second period, with a light northerly cross-off breeze at 6 mph. Energy is moderate (162). That’s about the cleanest we get, but it's still “very ordinary.” If you’re desperate, that’s your window.
From Wednesday the 2nd of September onward, it fades fast. Swell drops to 1ft-2ft, wind stays on the nose or cross-onshore, and energy dribbles down to single digits by the 4th and 5th (10-67). Surf is basically flat or blown out.
The only real standout is Thursday the 27th morning (Le Kerou) for raw power—7ft SW swell, 9-second period, massive energy (1344). But that’s expert-only, stormy, and onshore. For the average surfer, your best bet is Tuesday morning, the 1st of September, with clean 3ft WSW swell under light offshore wind. Crowds are possible there.
Other than those two, it’s a long, flat, or messy run. The stretch from the 2nd to the 7th of September is particularly grim.
Rusty, out.
