The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for Le Kerou over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it's a pretty grim start. The whole first week is a write-off. We've got a run of poor conditions right through to the end of August, with a mix of fresh cross-onshore winds, lumpy chop, and weak, short-period swell. The water is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at 68.0°. Not that you'll want to be in it for the surf.
The first glimmer of anything that might work comes right at the very end of the run. On Monday the 31st of August, we see a big jump in energy. The swell is pushing 9.8ft from the WSW with a period of 11 seconds, which is a proper groundswell, and the combined energy is a massive 2211 (strong to very strong wave energy). The problem is, the wind is still a fresh cross-onshore, and that size is going to be a washing machine. Really only for the experts, and honestly, it looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing at that point.
The only real standout, and I'm talking about the only time the score even hits a "2", is on Wednesday the 2nd of September. The morning session shows a 6.2ft swell from the WNW with a long 9-second period, and the combined energy is a solid 1003 (strong wave energy). What’s key here is the wind is light and from the SW, which is directly onshore at Le Kerou, but the gentleness of the breeze – a "Gentle breeze" – could just about keep the surface clean enough for a paddle. The guidance says "marginal surf forecast or questionable tide conditions," so it's not a banker, but given the total drought before it, this is the only window worth keeping an eye on.
After that, the forecast drops off again into tiny surf and poor wind. So, a long blank run, but that's the way it goes sometimes. The only real chance to get wet is that Wednesday morning. Hang in there.
