Alright folks, let’s break it down.
Le Kerou is in for a rough ride. For a spot that breaks fairly consistently with west swell, we’re looking at a long, flat, and wind-stuffed opening. For the first week and a half, the swell barely climbs above 2 ft, and the wind is just not cooperating – cross-on, onshore, or making things choppy. You’ll get a few cleaner moments Tuesday morning (7th July) and Wednesday morning (8th July) with light cross-offshore breezes, but the swell is a tiny 1 ft. It’s there, but not worth the drive.
The first real chance comes on Sunday morning (12th July). The wind goes dead calm – glassy. Swell is still small, about 2 ft from the west, but with that glass, it’ll be the cleanest wave you’ll see all week. Energy is weak (73), but for a beginner-friendly wave, it’s your best shot in a while.
Tuesday morning (14th July) is another highlight. A moderate offshore breeze from the north-northeast at 12 mph will groom that 2 ft west swell (11-second period) into clean lines. Energy hits 91 – still weak, but the best so far. Worth a paddle if you’re keen.
The second week gets more interesting, but wind keeps messing it up. Friday afternoon (17th July) sees the swell grow to 2 ft from the west with a longer 12-second period, but a fresh 22 mph cross-onshore wind makes it lumpy and ugly despite the energy climbing to 158.
Then comes Saturday morning (18th July) – this is the one. Glassy calm, 3 ft of west swell at 10 seconds, and combined energy of 159. Clean, small, and user-friendly. This is your best session of the whole forecast.
Later that afternoon, the swell jumps to 4 ft from the west-northwest (350 energy), but the cross-shore wind ruins it.
Monday morning (20th July) brings the biggest swell of the whole run: 5 ft from the west, with a very strong combined energy of 417. But it’s got a fresh 19 mph cross-shore wind on it – lumpy, messy, and powerful. That’s too big for beginners and blown-out for experts. By the afternoon, it’s 6 ft and 481 energy, but the cross-onshore wind is even worse. That setup is more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
So, the honest truth: Le Kerou is mostly a bust for two weeks. The clear standouts are Sunday morning (12th July) for glassy small waves, Tuesday morning (14th July) for offshore wind, and the real winner is Saturday morning (18th July) – glassy, 3 ft, clean. That’s the one I’d circle on the calendar. Everything else? Choppy, small, or blown to bits.
It's a tough stretch for a break that usually delivers. But forecasts can shift, and it won’t stay this poor forever.
