Table - best surf conditions forecast for Le Kerou over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s translate that for the imperial crew. Rusty here, and I’m not sugar-coating it.
The next couple of weeks are looking dead flat and pretty ordinary. We’ve got a long stretch ahead with barely a ripple. The first real surf worth talking about is a little ways off, so we’re in for a dry spell.
At Le Kerou, it’s a tough watch. Water temp is 65°F, which is about average for this time of year, nothing weird. But the swell? Barely there. Thursday morning, July 9th, is the best of a bad bunch. We’ve got a clean 2ft swell from the west, with a 9-second period, and a nice cross-off wind from the ENE at 9 mph. Wave energy is weak (64), so it’s tiny, but for a beginner spot, it’s surfable and clean. If you’re learning, this is your window. After that, it’s all onshore wind and chop.
From Thursday afternoon onward, it’s a mess. July 10th has a similar tiny swell, but the wind messes it up. The 11th and 12th are even smaller, with the swell dropping to 1ft or 1ft. The wind stays mostly cross-off or onshore, but there’s just no energy – the combined energy falls to 15 or 13 on those days. It’s basically a lake.
The 13th of July to the 24th of July? A long, flat run. Swell heights barely reach 1ft, periods are short, and the wind is almost always onshore or cross-onshore. The energy is low, often in the double digits. There’s a brief pulse on the 24th of July, with the swell picking up to 3ft from the west, but the wind is straight onshore from the west at 6 mph in the morning, then 19 mph in the afternoon. It’s lumpy and messy. Not worth paddling out for.
So, the standout here? It’s Thursday morning, July 9th. That’s it. One clean session with tiny, clean waves for the beginners. The rest of the 16-day window is a write-off. If you’re desperate for a paddle, that’s your shot. Otherwise, leave the board in the car and wait for a better forecast.
Rusty.
