Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s on the menu for the next couple of weeks at Le Kerou. This is a super exposed, beginner-friendly spot that’s fairly consistent, and it takes swell from the west. The water temperature is sitting at about 64°F with an anomaly of 1°F, so it’s pretty much dead on average for this time of year – no surprises there.
Honestly, the next 16 days look pretty grim overall. There’s a real gap in quality here. The first session that's even worth paddling out for is Saturday morning, the 4th of July. We’ve got a clean, glassy start to the day with no wind at all, and a small 3ft WSW swell running with a 10-second period. The energy is weak though, only 133, so it’s not packing any punch. It’s surfable, but very ordinary – it’ll be a fun little wave for a beginner to get some practice on, but don’t expect anything to write home about.
After that, from Saturday afternoon right through until Friday the 10th, it’s a write-off. The wind turns onshore or cross-onshore, the swell drops, and conditions are just poor. You’d be wasting your time.
Next chance is Saturday the 11th of July in the morning. We’ve got a little bump in size to 4ft from the WSW, but the period is a terrible 6 seconds, so it’s just wind chop in the water. The energy is moderate at 193, but it’s coupled with a cross-offshore breeze, so at least it’s clean-ish. Still, it’s only scoring as surfable but very ordinary. Then it all gets smashed by a 30 km/h cross-onshore wind in the afternoon, turning it into a lumpy mess.
Sunday the 12th sees a similar story: 5ft swell, but again with onshore winds making it choppy and poor. Nothing to get excited about.
If I had to pick the best of a bad lot, it’s that tiny glassy window on Saturday the 4th of July morning. That’s your standout, purely because it’s the only time the wind completely shuts off, offering clean 3ft waves. It’s not big, it’s not powerful, but for a beginner on a longboard, you could have a lovely, quiet session with the crowds only showing up sometimes. After that, we’ve got a long blank run until the 11th, and even then it’s just mediocre.
It’s a tough outlook. The forecast can always change, but as it sits, don’t get your hopes up.
Rusty.
