The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Le Kerou. I gotta be straight with you – this is a tough one. The whole 16-day window is looking pretty grim for a proper paddle. There’s a real dry spell on the cards, with no decent surf at all.
For the first week and a half, from Tuesday the 14th of July right through to the 23rd of July, it’s a total write-off. We’re talking tiny, weak swell – barely a ripple. The combined wave energy is stuck in the double digits, like 26 or 40, which is just nothing. The wind is mostly cross or onshore, making things messy or choppy. You’ll see a few mornings with clean conditions and glassy water, like Thursday the 16th morning, with a light offshore from the ENE, but the swell is only 0.98 ft. It’s just not enough to surf. Saturday the 18th morning looks glassy with a 0.66 ft swell, but again, that’s for the kayak, not the shortboard.
The only real change comes much later. On Friday the 24th of July, we finally see a pulse of energy. The swell jumps to 6 ft from the SW, but the period is a short, choppy 7 seconds, and the combined energy hits 383 – that’s moderate energy. However, the wind is howling onshore from the WSW at 19 mph, and the wave comment is “poor surf conditions.” The same goes for the 25th of July, with 4 ft swell but still onshore wind. This setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing, to be honest. It’s not the kind of wave you want to be scratching into.
The 26th of July gets smaller again, down to 3 ft, and the wind is onshore and strong. It’s just not happening. The 29th of July morning shows a bit of hope with a 3 ft swell from the W and a light cross-on breeze, but the energy is still only moderate at 173. It’s a far cry from a good day.
So, what’s the best on offer? Honestly, there isn’t a standout. The only period with any *size* is the 24th and 25th of July, but the wind is completely against us. If you’re desperate for a wave, the cleanest conditions will be Thursday the 16th morning, but you’ll be surfing 0.98 ft bumps. That’s about it. A blank run like this is more normal for the area when the wind doesn’t cooperate. It’s a long wait for something that might not clean up. Keep an eye on it, but don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
