The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Le Kerou over the next couple of weeks.
First thing’s first – I gotta be straight with you. This stretch is a tough one for paddle surfing. The water temp is sittin’ around 67°, which is just about normal for this time of year, so no shocks there. But the real story is the wind and the swell quality. For the next week and a half, we’ve got a whole lot of cross-on and onshore wind, making things lumpy and choppy. The few times the wind lays down, the swell is tiny. It’s a real bummer.
We’re lookin’ at a solid 10-day gap with no real recommendations. The first glimmer of hope doesn’t show up until Sunday, August 30th, in the afternoon. We’ll finally see a shift to a cross-off breeze from the NNW at 12 mph, cleaning up a 5 ft swell from the WSW. The combined energy is moderate at 300, and it’s a clean window. It’s not a standout, but it’s the first sign of life.
Then, the real standout comes on Thursday, September 3rd, in the morning. The swell jumps up to 8 ft from the SW, with a combined energy of 844 – that’s strong energy. The wind is light from the WNW at 6 mph, so it’s just a light cross-on. Now, this is a big one. At 8 ft, it’s pushin’ into expert territory, and with a short period of 8 seconds, it’s gonna be a bit crumbly and peaky. Definitely not for the beginners – that’s a heavy paddle out.
But the absolute best of the whole forecast, the one you circle on the calendar, is Friday, September 4th, in the morning. The wind drops to glassy – a light 3 mph from the east – and the swell is a solid 5 ft from the WSW. The combined energy is 309, moderate but punchy. The surf report says "expect good surf conditions," and with that glassy surface, it’s gonna be the cleanest, most fun waves of the whole run. It’s a Friday morning, so crowds could be a factor, but it’s worth the early alarm.
So, hang in there. The first week is a write-off, but the second week has a couple of decent windows. The 4th of September morning is the one to chase.
Rusty.
