Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight up about Le Kerou for the next couple of weeks. The honest truth is, we’re staring down a long, dry spell. The first real chance of anything worth paddling out for doesn’t show up until Friday the 3rd of July, and even then, it’s going to be a scrappy affair. The pattern is basically weak swell and tricky winds for the vast majority of the 16-day window.
Here’s how it shakes out. That Friday morning on the 3rd is our first look. We’ve got some waist-high swell from the west, about 3 ft with a period of 10 seconds – not a groundswell, but it’s got a bit of energy. The real kicker is the wind: glassy, offshore from the NE at only 3 mph. That is a major positive, mate, it’ll be clean. The conditions are surfable, but it’s ordinary and weak. Saturday morning the 4th will be similar, with a slightly smaller 3 ft west swell and light offshore ENE wind at 6 mph, so clean again. The water temp is sitting at 66°F, which is about a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
But that’s it. The rest of the outlook is grim. From Saturday afternoon the 4th all the way through to the end of the forecast on the 17th of July, the swell just bleeds out. We’re talking 0.7 ft to 2 ft dribble, and the wind is mostly cross-on, onshore, or just messy. The wave energy drops right off a cliff – there are days with barely a ripple. There will be stretches here where it’s flat for days on end. If you have a kite, some of these afternoons with a solid breeze might look more interesting than a paddle board, because there isn’t enough push for a surfboard.
So, for a surfer, the only fleeting window is Friday morning the 3rd and Saturday morning the 4th of July at Le Kerou. Wait for that light offshore, get a couple of clean but ordinary waist-high runners, and don’t expect anything else for a long while.
