Table - best surf conditions forecast for Le Kerou over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gonna give you the straight-up look for Le Kerou over the next couple of weeks. It’s a bit of a slow burner, so don’t go racing down there with your board just yet.
We’re looking at a real quiet start. For the first week and a half, honestly, it’s pretty grim. The waves are tiny – we’re talking mostly around 1.0 ft to 2 ft – and the energy is weak, with readings like 42 and 20 knocking around. The wind is a mixed bag, mostly cross, on, or cross-off, and the conditions are just “poor.” It’s a real flat spell. You’d be fighting a losing battle trying to get a ride; the combined swell energy barely cracks 100 (maxing out at 94) for over a week.
The real story starts to change after that long dry spell. It's not until Wednesday, the 22nd of July that we finally see something worth paddling out for. The morning kicks off with surfable 4 ft waves from the West, and the wind goes clean offshore from the NE at a nice 16 mph. The energy finally has a bit of poke to it at 77. The afternoon gets even better with consistent 4 ft waves and a gentler breeze, with energy jumping to 178. That’s a solid window.
Then Thursday, the 23rd of July morning is your standout call. You’ve got a clean 3 ft swell from the WSW, a light ESE breeze keeping things glassy, and a healthy combined energy of 127. This is the pick of the whole run for a standard shortboard or funboard – clean, manageable, and the wind is perfect.
Friday, the 24th gets bigger, but it gets messy. You’re looking at 6 ft to 6 ft swell from the WSW and W, which is pushing into the territory where beginners will find it a handful. The energy is moderate to strong (470 and 562), but the wind goes cross and cross-onshore, making it choppy. It’s a bit of a junkyard unless you’re a local expert who just wants some grunt.
For the absolute best session, if you’re an experienced surfer, save your energy for Saturday, the 25th of July morning. That’s the only time we see a very long period groundswell at 12 seconds, pushing a solid 6 ft from the WSW. The combined swell energy is a whopping 944. The wind is almost nothing, just a slight air. Because the period is long, it will be best if you can hit a point or reef setup, as it might close out a bit on a straight beach break, but the power and the clean conditions are undeniable. It’s going to be pumping.
Crowds at Le Kerou can be a thing, so for that Saturday, get there early. The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing unusual to report on that front.
So, there you go. A long, flat wait, then a few clean days, and a big, powerful finish for the experts. That Saturday morning is the one to circle if you’ve got the skills for it.
Rusty.
