Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, I’m gonna be straight with you – looking at the next 16 days for Barinatxe - La Salvaje (Spain), it’s pretty grim. We’ve got a long, grim gap at the start. Nothing worth paddling out for on Friday or Saturday the 3rd and 4th. The swell is there, but it's messy, the wind is on it, and it’s no good.
Finally, on Sunday the 5th, we get a little window. Sunday morning, the wind goes glassy – dead calm – with a 2ft NW groundswell, period around 11 seconds. The wave energy is weak, just 107, but that glassy morning makes it surfable. It’s tiny, though. That window lasts maybe one session before the onshore wind messes it up by afternoon.
Then we hit another dry spell. From Sunday afternoon right through to Friday the 10th, it’s mostly poor to useless. Tiny, weak, onshore wind. Thursday morning the 9th is glassy again, but the swell is only 1ft so it’s a complete flat spell.
Friday morning the 10th we see a pulse of energy – combined wave energy hits 122 with a 2ft NW swell, 10-second period, and glassy conditions. It’s ordinary but it’s the first hint of something. Same again on Saturday the 11th morning – glassy, 2ft NW swell.
The only real standout in this whole forecast is Sunday morning on the 5th. That’s your best bet. Clean, glassy, tiny but rideable waves at a consistent expert break. The water temp is 73°F, which is way warmer than normal for July – a good 6°F above average. That’s very unusual, but it’ll feel nice.
For the rest of the fortnight, it’s a bunch of 1ft to 3ft NW windswell or short-period groundswell, mostly with cross-onshore or onshore winds. A few glassy mornings but the swell is too small to get excited about. The second week is particularly poor, with weak energy readings mostly under 100 and constant onshore wind.
Bottom line: if you’re itching for a surf, Sunday morning the 5th is your one shot. Otherwise, it’s a long wait.
Rusty.
