Table - best surf conditions forecast for Barinatxe - La Salvaje over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s talk about Barinatxe - La Salvaje in feet and miles per hour. The water temp is 73°F right now, and that’s much warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least the water feels good.
The surf is a tough story for the first week or so. Most mornings have tiny waves—around 1 foot to 2 feet. The energy is weak, and the periods are short or mixed. There’s a Saturday morning (July 11th) with a 1 ft swell from the NNW at 12 seconds, and the wind is light cross-off out of the east at 6 mph. That’s clean, but tiny. That’s really the only window early on if you’re dying to get wet.
From there, it’s a long dry spell. The swell stays small, the wind is often onshore or cross-onshore, and nothing is working. This goes all the way to the morning of Monday, July 21st. That morning we get glassy conditions with a 3 ft swell from the NNW, wind from the NNW at 3 mph. The energy is moderate (66), but the period is only 6 seconds, so it’s a bit weak.
The best window comes on the morning of Tuesday, July 22nd. The swell pushes up to 4 ft from the NNW, with a 7-second period. The energy hits 192 (moderate), and the wind is a light cross-shore out of the northeast at 6 mph. That’s the cleanest and biggest we see across the whole 16 days. This is an expert spot, consistent and exposed, and crowds are likely often. Not one for beginners.
After that, it fades back into small, choppy, onshore slop through the end of the month. A few mornings are clean, but the waves are just too small—around 1 ft to 1 ft—to bother.
So, if you’ve got a log and patience, the morning of the 22nd is your play. Otherwise, the board stays in the car.
