Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what La Esquina del Mar has in store for the next couple of weeks.

Right off the bat, I gotta be real with you – this isn't a week to get hyped about. We’re looking at a long stretch of very small, weak swell with combined wave energy values mostly in the 200s and 300s, which is pretty weak overall. The water is sitting at 87°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s about the only interesting thing.

The first real chance to get wet starts on Sunday the 12th, but don’t get your hopes up. It’s only 3ft from the SSW with a period around 14 seconds, yet it’s coming with a cross-on breeze, so the conditions are poor. Honestly, Monday the 13th is when things start to look a little better. The early morning on the 13th is glassy, and we’ve got a tiny 2ft SSW swell, but it’s surfable, if very ordinary.

Tuesday the 14th morning is the same story – glassy, clean, but only 3ft from the SSW. You’ll get a wave, but you won’t be telling your mates about it. This pattern of glassy mornings and grotty afternoons with on or cross-on wind holds through the whole first week and into the second. Wednesday the 15th morning is glassy, 2ft from the S – same deal. Thursday the 16th, Friday the 17th, Saturday the 18th – all of them have glassy starts but the swell stays stuck under 3ft. It’s a real grind.

Now, the pick of the entire 16-day window? I’d say it’s a toss-up between the morning of Tuesday the 14th and the morning of Monday the 27th. Personally, I’d lean toward the Monday 27th July morning session. That morning is showing 2ft from the S with a 13-second period and glassy wind, so it’s clean. The combined energy is 343, which is the highest we see in this quiet spell, but it’s still weak overall. It’s a river break, so with a long period swell like that, it might actually set up a bit better than it would at a beach. But keep in mind, the swell direction is S, and this spot really needs the optimum SW to line up properly. Crowds are only a ‘sometimes’ thing here, so you might have it quiet.

The other morning worth a look is Saturday the 25th July. You’d think 1.0ft is nothing, but it’s got a very long period of 21 seconds from the SSW. That’s real groundswell energy, and with glassy conditions all afternoon, this sheltered river break could turn those tiny numbers into a sneaky little wave. The combined energy is only 169 though, so it’s on the weak side.

The whole second week is much of the same: small, glassy mornings, poor afternoons. The swell stays under 3ft right through to the 27th. It’s a long, flat run for the area, but given the consistent nature of the morning glass-offs, there’s always a chance a little bump turns into something fun.

Rusty signing off.
