Table - best surf conditions forecast for La Esquina del Mar over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it. We’ve only got one spot lighting up in the 16-day window, and it’s a bit of a hidden gem: La Esquina del Mar. This is a sheltered river-mouth setup, and it’s inconsistent, so when it’s on, it’s a treat. The water is sitting at a warm 87°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – you’ll feel that bathwater.
The pattern is pretty mellow over the whole period. There’s no big swell to speak of, and the combined energy never really gets out of the moderate range. The best of the bunch is a couple of days in, but the first few days are a write-off. Sunday the 12th is a no-go with poor surf and cross-on winds, so don’t even bother.
Things start to turn on Monday the 13th. We’ve got clean, glassy conditions in the morning and afternoon with light, variable winds. The swell is small, around 2ft to 3ft from the SSW, with a period of 13 to 16 seconds. That’s a long-period groundswell for such a sheltered spot, and it’ll wrap in nicely. The wave energy is moderate (293 to 368), so there’s enough juice for a fun little log or a fish. The morning is the pick – glassy, no wind, and just you and the river mouth.
The standout morning is Tuesday the 14th. Again, glassy conditions, a bit more size at 3ft from the SSW, and a period of 14 seconds. The energy is solid (362), and with the optimum swell direction from the SW matching the guide, this is about as good as it gets here. The sheltering means it won’t be big, but it’ll be clean and user-friendly. Be aware that crowds are possible here sometimes, so get in early.
The rest of the window is a repeat of the same small, glassy mornings and poor, windy afternoons. The 16th, 18th, 19th, 20th, 25th, and 27th all have glassy mornings with similar 2ft to 3ft SSW or S swells. The energy is always moderate (in the 200s to low 300s). The 23rd of July has a very short period (8 seconds) on the morning, so that’s a weaker, bumpier wave – skip it. The afternoon of the 25th is actually glassy too, which is rare for the afternoon slot, so that’s a bonus.
Bottom line: If you want a clean, small-wave session on a river mouth, the mornings of the 13th, 14th, and 18th are your best bets. It’s never going to be pumping, but it’s consistent in its inconsistency. If you miss those windows, you’ll be waiting for the next glassy morning. The afternoon winds wreck it every time, so don’t sleep in.
Rusty.
