The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s cooking at Cabo Blanco.
We’ve got a solid run of surf ahead, starting with a few days of clean, glassy mornings that are going to be the real winners. The swell is hanging around the 4ft to 4ft mark, coming from the SSW, and the energy is solid with moderate readings (around 482 to 518). The period is around 12 to 15 seconds, so there’s some real grunt in these lines – a proper groundswell. That long period means the wave shape should be good, but at a beach break, it might wall up a bit straight. Keep an eye on that.
Wednesday morning, 15 July, is the first standout. The water is sitting at about average for the time of year, not too warm or cold. Wind is dead calm, glassy conditions. The swell is 4ft from the SSW with a period of 14 seconds and moderate energy (482). It’s going to be absolutely clean. The break is exposed to the SW, which is a great match for this swell direction. Just a heads up, crowds can be an issue here sometimes, so get there early.
Thursday morning, 16 July, and Friday morning, 17 July, are more of the same: glassy, clean, with 4ft to 4ft SSW swell. Very consistent. The afternoons get wrecked by a WSW wind and the risk of storms, so those are a write-off.
Saturday morning, 18 July, is the pick of the first week. The rating is top-notch. 4ft of SSW swell, 13-second period, glassy conditions, and the energy is moderate (503). This is going to be a session you remember. The afternoons turn choppy with cross-onshore winds, so stick to mornings.
The first week closes with smaller, but still clean, surf around 3ft to 4ft through Monday and Tuesday. Still glassy mornings, worth a paddle.
Then we hit a gap. From Wednesday morning, 22 July, through to Friday morning, 24 July, the swell drops right off to 1ft to 2ft. The energy is weak (173 to 297). Not much to get excited about, but the morning of the 24th is glassy with a very long period of 24 seconds pushing through. That’s an interesting one, but the size is tiny.
The real headline act shows up later. Sunday morning, 26 July, the swell starts to build back. Monday morning, 27 July, this is the one. The swell is 3ft from the SW, but the period is a meaty 19 seconds, and the energy is strong (1162). That’s a serious amount of water moving. The winds are glassy, the conditions are clean. This is a session for experienced surfers. The swell direction is a perfect match for the break.
Tuesday morning, 28 July, is even better. 4ft of SW swell, 18-second period, and the energy jumps to very strong (1255). Dead calm, glassy. Another absolute gem for the experienced crew. The swell is just over 5ft, so it’s getting a bit too big for beginners.
The long-range stuff is promising but less certain. Wednesday morning, 29 July, holds solid with 4ft SW swell, 16-second period, and strong energy (1003). Glassy again. The mornings are the key; the afternoons get a WSW wind that ruins the surface.
So, to wrap it up: The best on offer are the mornings of Saturday 18 July, and then the big groundswell sessions on Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 July. Those are the standouts. The rest of the time, the mornings are clean but smaller. Don’t bother with the afternoons.
Rusty.
