The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about the next couple of weeks at Cabo Blanco. This spot is exposed to the SW, and it looks like the Southern Hemisphere has our number. The water is running a tick over 86°, which is a solid 4° warmer than average for this time of year – feels like a bath out there, so don't expect that winter chill.
We kick off on Saturday the 18th. The morning is the real deal. We’ve got a clean 4ft SSW swell rolling in with a nice 13-second period and glassy conditions. The combined energy is moderate at 509, and the waves are going to be clean and fun. That’s your best bet for the weekend. The afternoon gets messy with a cross-onshore wind and a storm risk, so get out early.
Sunday the 19th is a write-off. The swell drops to 3ft, the wind is all over the place, and the conditions are poor. Monday the 20th is similarly flat and choppy. Tuesday the 21st is small and marginal, but the wind is light.
Then we get a little window. Wednesday the 22nd pulls the light offshore wind from the SE, and the swell is tiny at 2ft, but it’s clean. Not worth a paddle if you’re after any power, but if you’re on a longboard, you might catch a few.
We hit a rough patch Thursday the 23rd. The swell is mixed up, with a weird 26-second period in the afternoon that just makes things messy and wonky. That’s a no-go.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. Friday the 24th morning, the swell is small at 2ft, but the period jumps to 24 seconds and the energy is strong at 719. It’s glassy. That’s a very long-period groundswell, perfect for a point break like this, but it’ll be really straight at the beach. The wave quality should be excellent for the size.
Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th look really promising. The wind is offshore or light cross-off, the swell stays around 3ft to 3ft, and the periods are long (19-20 seconds). The energy is building nicely into the 600 range. Clean, lined-up waves, but that long period means expect longer waits between sets.
The standout for the whole forecast is Monday the 27th. Glassy conditions, 4ft of SW swell, 19 seconds, and the combined energy is a solid 1159. This is excellent surf for experienced surfers. The sets will have some punch, and the conditions will be about as perfect as you can ask for. Tuesday the 28th and Wednesday the 29th are also looking excellent, with glassy mornings and 4ft to 5ft of SW swell. This is a run of top-tier conditions.
The energy drops off after that. Thursday the 30th and into the first week of August, the swell stays around 3ft to 4ft, but the periods shorten. The mornings are still glassy, so there will be waves, just not as much power.
Bottom line: The best on offer is the outstanding run from Monday the 27th through Wednesday the 29th. That’s your window for the best waves of the period. The weekend of the 18th is okay, but the real magic is late next week. Crowds are “sometimes” a thing here, so on those glassy mornings, you might have a few buddies out, but it won’t be a zoo.
Rusty.
