The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s on the horizon.
We’ve got a solid run of clean, surfable swell building over the next couple of weeks, with a couple of absolute gems if you pick the right window. The vibe is classic: glassy mornings, consistent groundswell, and a build toward a heavy, expert-only day.
Cabo Blanco is the only game in town. Starting Thursday morning, 16th July, we’ve got a glassy 4ft SSW groundswell at 13 seconds. Combined energy is strong at 450—nothing huge but well-shaped. The water temp is right around average for this time of year, so no cold surprises. It’s dead calm, offshore from the SSW, and the break will be clean. Afternoon seabreezes ruin it, so dawn patrol is the move.
Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th repeat the formula: glassy mornings, 4ft to 4ft, periods around 12-13 seconds. Crowds are possible but not overwhelming. These are fun, consistent days with energy in the 400-500 range.
Sunday the 19th drops a bit to 3ft but stays clean. Monday the 20th is similar at 3ft. Good, solid sessions if you’re keen.
Then we hit a flat spell. From Tuesday the 21st through the 23rd, the swell falls to 2ft and energy drops to the low 200s. The mornings are still glassy, but it’s marginal. Not worth rushing out for.
Now, the first standout: Friday morning, 24th July. A 2ft SW groundswell with an incredible 24-second period rolls in. Energy rockets to 675. It’s dead calm and glassy. That very long-period groundswell will produce long, clean lines, though it may wall up at a beach break. For experienced surfers, this is a treat.
But the big one—the one you need to circle—is Monday morning, 28th July. A clean 4ft SW swell, 18-second period, glassy calm. Combined energy is a powerful 1191. This is excellent for experts. The swell direction lines up perfectly with Cabo Blanco’s optimum. For strong intermediates, it might be a handful. This is a proper, memorable session if you’ve got the skills.
The 29th and 30th mornings still offer 4ft with periods of 15-16 seconds and energy in the strong range (851-671). Still good, still clean, but not the peak.
In short: Go for the glassy mornings from the 16th to the 20th for consistent, fun waves. Mark the 24th for a long-period treat, and absolutely schedule around the 28th morning if you’re experienced. Cabo Blanco can get crowded at times, but quality like this draws the right crew. Beginners should stick to the smaller days before the 21st; 4ft on the 28th with that energy is expert territory.
Stay safe, keep an eye on the wind, and get out early.
Rusty.
