The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the menu for the next couple of weeks.
We’ve got a solid run of clean, glassy mornings coming up for Cabo Blanco, but the afternoons are a bit of a mess with those risk of thunderstorms and onshore breezes. The water is sitting at 87°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so you can leave the wetsuit at home.
The standout session is Thursday morning, the 20th of August. It’s going to be dead calm, glassy as a mirror, with a 3ft SSW swell pushing in at 10 seconds. The combined energy is moderate at 311, and it’s going to be a real cruisey, clean session. Perfect for a longboard or a funboard.
Friday morning, the 21st, is also a beauty. The swell picks up a notch to 5ft from the SSW, still with a 11-second period, and the wind is totally off. The energy is up to 499, making it the most powerful of the early sessions. That’s the pick of the weekend for a bit more push.
The following week, things get a bit weird. A long-period SW groundswell (18 seconds) rolls in on Sunday the 23rd and Monday the 24th, but the size drops right off to 2ft. That long period will make for some silky, lined-up waves, but it’s going to be pretty small. That kind of period can make a beach break like this a bit straight, but with the glassy mornings, it’ll still be worth a paddle.
The real highlight of the whole forecast is the 30th of August. Saturday morning sees a 5ft SW swell with a period of 15 seconds, and the wind is a clean cross-off from the ESE. The combined energy is a massive 841 – that’s proper strong energy. This is the one to circle on the calendar. It’s a bit further out, so be patient, but it looks like the best quality window of the whole run.
The 31st of August and 1st of September are also solid with 4ft SSW swells, glassy mornings, and strong energy (590 and 552). That whole weekend is looking very promising.
After that, the swell backs off again, but the 4th of September Friday morning has a clean cross-off wind and a 3ft, 18-second SW groundswell. The energy is 574, so even though it’s a smaller day, the quality should be top-notch.
So, to sum it up: the early glassy mornings are your best bet for clean, fun waves. The 20th and 21st are the best immediate options. The 30th of August is the real standout, but it’s a long-range call, so keep your fingers crossed. If you’re a beginner, stick to the mornings under 5ft. The afternoons are mostly a write-off due to the wind and storms.
Stay stoked,
Rusty
