The Lowdown
Alright, let’s have a look at what’s cooking for the next couple of weeks. The main attraction here is Cabo Blanco, and it’s got a bit of a mixed bag, but the good news is there are some proper windows to get a wave. The water temperature is about average for this time of year, nothing wild, so you’re not going to need a steamer, but a spring suit might be welcome.
The first real standout is Wednesday morning, the 19th of August. We’re looking at a clean, glassy 2 ft SW groundswell with a long 15-second period, which means it’s got some push. Combined swell energy is moderate (349). The wind is dead calm, so it’ll be glassy as a mirror. This is a nice, mellow option for a dawny, but don’t go expecting a wild ride.
Thursday morning the 20th sees a bump in size to 3 ft from the SSW, period 10 seconds, and again glassy conditions. The energy is moderate (311). It’s a step up, but still very manageable.
Friday morning the 21st is the first real highlight. We’ve got 5 ft of SSW swell, period 11 seconds, and it’s glassy. The combined energy is moderate (493). This is the best size and cleanest conditions of the early run. The wind is offshore from the east, so it’ll be peeling nicely. That’s the one to circle.
The weekend mornings are still worth a look. Saturday the 22nd has 3 ft S swell, glassy, with moderate energy (367). Sunday the 23rd is smaller at 2 ft, but with a long 14-second period and glassy conditions, so it’ll be clean but cruisy. The afternoons are a write-off with onshore winds and storm risk.
Then we hit a bit of a lull from Monday the 24th through to Wednesday the 26th. The mornings are glassy but tiny, around 2 ft, with long period (16-18 seconds). The energy drops to the low 200s. It’s a gutless run, not much to get excited about unless you’re on a longboard.
Thursday the 27th is a write-off. A 5 ft swell pops up, but it’s short period (6 seconds) and wind-blown. That’s messy and not worth paddling out for.
Now, look ahead to the end of the first week and into the second. Friday the 28th morning is glassy but small, 2 ft with a 16-second period, energy moderate (269). The afternoon has a 2 ft, 20-second period groundswell that pushes energy up to 527, but it’s cross-onshore, so it’s marginal.
The next real standout is Saturday morning, the 29th of August. Here we go: 4 ft of SW groundswell, 17-second period, and it’s glassy. The combined energy is strong (903). This is the best-looking session of the whole run. The wind is light and offshore, so it’s going to be clean, powerful, and lined up. That’s a proper morning.
Sunday the 30th morning is still decent, with 5 ft SW swell, 15-second period, but the wind is cross-shore, so it’s a bit more choppy. Energy is strong (852). It’s a solid option, but not as clean as Saturday.
Monday the 31st morning is another beauty. 4 ft from the SSW, 14-second period, glassy, with strong energy (708). That’s a very good morning.
Tuesday the 1st of September morning is also very good: 4 ft SSW, 13-second period, glassy, energy moderate-high (552).
From Wednesday the 2nd and Thursday the 3rd, the swell drops back to 2-2 ft, but the period is still long (16-17 seconds) and the mornings are glassy. Energy is moderate (around 400-500). Fun for a small wave session, but nothing to shout about.
Overall, the best on offer is Saturday morning, the 29th of August, with that 4 ft SW groundswell, long period, and glassy conditions. Friday morning the 21st and Monday morning the 31st are also strong contenders. The lull from the 24th to the 26th is a bit of a dead patch, but the second week picks up nicely. The afternoons are generally a no-go with onshore winds and stormy conditions, so stick to the dawn patrol.
