Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming our way for the next couple of weeks. The pattern is a solid, long-period SSW groundswell running through most of the period, starting pretty much right away. The wind looks kind to us more often than not, with plenty of glassy mornings—that’s a major positive. The standout sessions are the early ones, where the combo of size, period, and calm air lines up perfectly.
We kick things off on Monday the 6th of July with a glassy morning at Cabo Blanco. It’s a bit on the smaller side at 3ft from the SSW, but with a very long period of 16 seconds and zero wind, it’ll be clean as a whistle. The water’s about average for this time of year, nothing unusual there. Combined swell energy is moderate at 878, so there’s enough push for a fun session. The afternoon turns cross-onshore and drops off, so make the most of the morning.
Now, the real highlight—and the one to circle on the calendar—is Tuesday the 7th of July. The morning delivers 5ft of SSW groundswell with an 18-second period and glassy conditions. That’s 5ft, so this one’s for experienced surfers; it’ll be too powerful for beginners. The combined energy cranks up to a strong 1803, meaning plenty of grunt in the water. The swell direction lines up beautifully with the optimum SW direction for this exposed break. Clean, powerful, long-period waves—this is about as good as it gets.
Wednesday the 8th of July morning is still excellent, with 5ft from the SSW and a slight breeze keeping it glassy. Combined energy is a solid 1091. It’s a touch smaller than Tuesday but still a fantastic option for experienced crew.
Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th mornings offer cleaner smaller surf (4ft and 3ft respectively), with glassy or near-calm wind, making for very good conditions despite the drop in size. Energy levels are moderate (653 and 618).
Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th of July mornings hold up with waist-high sets (4ft and 4ft), again glassy, and combined energy sitting in the moderate 573-763 range. Very good surf, just a notch down in power.
Monday the 13th of July sees the swell take a dip with messy cross-shore winds, poor quality—best to skip.
Things pick back up from Tuesday the 14th of July with clean mornings and a consistent 4ft SSW groundswell, remaining solid through to Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th of July mornings. Light offshores or glass keep it clean, with energy moderate.
For the second week, the pattern holds but the swell drops a little. Friday the 17th of July morning is small (3ft) but glassy, and Saturday the 18th is similar. The real nice surprise comes on Sunday the 19th of July: only 2ft, but with a very long 17-second period and calm air—combined energy 582. It’ll be clean and lined up, though small. A long-period groundswell like that, at a spot like Cabo Blanco, can produce surprisingly fun lines despite the height.
Monday the 20th of July morning is another glassy 3ft with 14-second period, energy 536—very good again.
The run ends on Tuesday the 21st of July with a small but clean 2ft, 16-second groundswell. Energy is moderate at 421.
Overall, the first week is your best bet, especially Tuesday the 7th of July morning. The consistency is good—there are no big gaps, just a couple of rough afternoons or the odd poor day (like Monday the 13th). Mornings are almost always the go. The energy ranges from moderate to strong, but nothing ever gets wild enough to scare off experienced surfers who know what they’re doing. Crowds? It says “sometimes,” so you might share the peak, but with conditions this clean, it’s worth it.
Stay stoked, and get out there early.
