Table - best surf conditions forecast for Morro Negrito over the next 16 days.
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up at Morro Negrito (Panama).
Right off the bat, we’ve got a bit of a slow start. The main takeaway here is that this is a small-swell run with a lot of glassy windows, but the wave heights are pretty modest. The first real chance for a paddle is Sunday morning, July 12th. It’s early, but it’s the best we’ll see for a while. The swell is a clean 2ft from the SSW with a nice 14-second period – that’s proper groundswell. The water is sitting at 87°F which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, a real anomaly. The wind is dead calm, glass, and the combined energy is moderate at 203. It’s an advanced wave, this reef-and-point setup, but with the SSW direction lining up nicely with the optimum, and the crowd factor is only “sometimes” – so it might be worth a look for the experienced crew. Honestly, this is the standout of the entire forecast. After that, things get a bit flat.
The following week, from Monday 13th through to Saturday 18th, the swell drops to 1ft-2ft. There are plenty of glassy mornings, especially on the 13th, 15th, 16th, 17th, and 18th, but the wave energy is low (ranging from 111 to 166). The period hangs around 13-14 seconds, so there’s some shape, but the size is just small. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. Afternoons tend to get chopped by thunderstorms or onshore breezes, so don’t expect much after lunch.
The second week, from the 19th to the 27th, is even more of a struggle. The swell stays around 1ft to 2ft, and the energy drops into the double digits regularly (down to 69-90 in some spots). The period gets shorter on the 23rd and 24th, dropping to 7 seconds – that’s windswell, not worth a paddle. There are a few glassy mornings, like the 21st, 22nd, 26th, and 27th, but the wave heights are tiny. The morning of the 25th brings a 21-second period groundswell, but only 1.0ft, so it’s a tease. The energy is moderate at 146, but you’d need a longboard and a lot of patience.
So, overall, the flag goes up for Sunday morning, July 12th. That’s the pick. The rest is a long flat spell with a few glassy moments for the small-wave crew. For a bigger wave rider, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
