Table - best surf conditions forecast for Morro Negrito over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Morro Negrito over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, we’re in a bit of a flat spell. The first real nod for a surf comes Saturday the 12th, but it’s a small one. We’ve got a long period groundswell rolling in from the SSW at 2ft, with a period of 14 seconds. That’s a classic sign of some proper energy, but the size is tiny. The real story that morning is the glassy, offshore wind from the WNW at just 3 mph. That’s about as clean as it gets. The water is a balmy 87°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – over 4° above average, so you’ll be in for a warm one.
The week that follows is a real struggle. From Monday the 13th through to Monday the 20th, we’re looking at small, weak surf. The swell hangs around 1ft to 2ft, and while you might get a glassy window here and there, the combined energy is mostly in the low 100s to 200s (moderate at best, often weak). It’s just not worth paddling out for unless you’re desperate for a float. The afternoons are often plagued by onshore winds or thunderstorms, so don’t bother.
Then, things start to look a little more interesting. On Tuesday the 21st of July, we get a spike in energy. The morning shows a 2ft SSW swell with a 14-second period and a combined energy reading of 214 (moderate). It’s glassy with a light 3 mph NW wind. That’s a solid, clean option for a Tuesday morning.
But the real standout, the one to circle on your calendar, is the end of the forecast period. From Friday the 24th of July, we start seeing a serious pulse of long-period groundswell. The combined energy jumps to 279 on Friday afternoon, then 357 on Saturday morning, and by Sunday the 26th, it hits 419 (strong energy). The swell is still only 2ft to 2ft from the SSW, but the period is pushing 19 to 24 seconds. That’s extremely long period. This kind of swell loves a reef and point setup like Morro Negrito, but it can be a bit inconsistent with long lulls. The winds are looking good – Saturday morning the 25th is glassy calm, and Sunday morning the 26th has a light cross-offshore breeze from the east. This is the best run of the window. The only catch is a little bit of an onshore kick on Saturday afternoon, so get out early.
Be aware, this is a consistent spot for advanced surfers, and crowds can be expected at times, especially when the swell kicks up like this. The optimum swell direction is from the SW, and this is coming from the SSW, so it’s in the right ballpark.
Given the weak, small surf through the middle of the period, this is a “wait for the end of the month” forecast. The 24th through the 26th is your time.
Rusty.
