The Lowdown
Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let’s break it down for Morro Negrito.
Right off the bat, we’ve got a bit of a slow spell. The first week or so is looking pretty ordinary, with small, weak swell. The water is a full 86°F and a whopping 4°F warmer than usual for this time of year, which is a real standout – it’s noticeably warmer than normal.
The real action, and the only true standout in this whole 16-day window, is shaping up for the end of the month. We’ve got a solid pulse of moderate energy (520) pushing through on the morning of the 27th of July. The swell is a clean 3ft from the SSW with a period of 19 seconds – that’s proper groundswell, long and lined up. The wind is dead calm, giving us glassy conditions. This is the one to circle. The long period means better shaped waves, but at a reef and point setup like this, it’ll be a dream. The crowd factor is "sometimes", so you might have to share, but it’ll be worth it.
The 26th of July morning is also a strong contender, with 2ft from the SSW and glassy conditions, and the energy is solid (281). It’s a notch below the 27th, but a very good session nonetheless.
The 25th of July afternoon sees a bit more size at 2ft from the SW, with a clean cross-offshore breeze. It’s a good option, but the morning of the 27th is where the magic is.
For the rest of the period, the mornings are generally glassy with small, weak swell, but the afternoons often get ruined by onshore winds and thunderstorms. The 24th of July morning has a long period (24 seconds) and moderate energy (261), but the swell is only 1ft, so it’s a tease.
The 29th of July has a couple of glassy windows with 2ft swell from the SW, which is steady and rideable. After that, the energy drops right off into the first of August, with only tiny, weak waves on offer.
So, bottom line: the first week is a bit of a write-off. The best of the best is the morning of the 27th of July. Get on it.
Rusty.
