Alright, let’s get down to it. We’re talking about Morro Negrito – a reef and point break that really lights up when the swell comes from the SSW. Right now, the water’s sitting at 86°F, which is about 4°F warmer than normal for this time of year, so it’s unseasonably warm. You won’t need a thick suit.
The best window is right at the start. Sunday morning July 5th is a beauty: 2ft of SSW swell with a 14-second period, glassy calm winds out of the SE at 3 mph. The combined energy is moderate at (209), and with that long period, the waves will have some real shape and glide. It’s not big, but it’s clean and fun. Crowds can show up here, so get in early.
Tuesday morning July 7th is the real standout of the whole run. You’ve got 3ft of SSW swell with an 18-second period – that’s a proper groundswell with real energy, reading (530). Winds are dead calm, glassy. It’s still only a smallish wave size-wise, but that period will give it plenty of punch and nice long lines. This is the morning to aim for.
Monday the 6th and Wednesday the 8th through Saturday the 11th all offer clean mornings: 2ft to 3ft SSW swell, glassy or very light winds, periods from 15 to 18 seconds. Energy stays in the 200 to 400 range. Solid, reliable surf.
From Sunday the 12th afternoon onward, the afternoons turn weedy – risk of storms, onshore winds, and choppy conditions. Mornings stay glassy but the swell drops to around 2ft, and the energy gets weak – by Thursday the 16th you’re looking at 1ft waves with 13 seconds and energy down to (98). There’s no big empty gap, just a steady fade. The last half-decent morning is Sunday July 19th with 2ft of 16-second SSW swell and glassy wind, energy at (163), but it’s just rideable, not a highlight.
First week’s the winner. Sunday 5th and Tuesday 7th mornings are the ones to circle.
