Table - best surf conditions forecast for Morro Negrito over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the menu for Morro Negrito.
Straight up, this is a long-range story for the advanced crew. We’ve got a consistent, exposed reef and point set-up that loves a SW swell, and that’s exactly what we’re seeing. The water is sitting at a warm 86.5°F, which is a solid 3.6°F warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s a proper anomaly, so you’re in for a warm bath.
The first real window of opportunity kicks off on Thursday morning, the 9th of July. It’s not huge, with a 2.6ft SSW groundswell, but the period is a very long 15 seconds, packing a moderate 284 units of energy. The absolute standout here is the wind: dead glassy, calm. For a break that’s pointed right into the swell, this is going to be clean, lined-up, and about as good as it gets for the size. It’s an advanced wave, so you need to know what you’re doing, but for the experienced surfer, that Thursday morning session is the highlight of the whole outlook. Crowds are *sometimes* a thing here, but on a Thursday with a risk of thunderstorms, you might have it more to yourself.
After that initial burst, the waves drop off a little. Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th still have clean glassy mornings with 2ft of that long-period SSW swell, but the energy dips a bit. The afternoons get messy with onshore breezes, so stick to the early sessions.
We then hit a pretty long flat spell. From Sunday afternoon right through to the end of the third week, it’s a grind. The swell drops to 1.6ft and even 1ft, and while you’ll see plenty of glassy conditions, the wave state is just “very ordinary.” The energy reading dips into the double digits – weak stuff. This is a lot of days with not much to ride.
There’s a flicker of hope on the 21st of July (Tuesday morning) when a 2ft SSW swell with a 16-second period and clean cross-off winds shows up, but it’s still just a surfable wave, not a standout.
The true second chance comes on Wednesday morning, the 22nd of July. The swell bumps back to 2.3ft from the SSW, period is 13 seconds, and the wind is clean cross-off. The combined energy jumps back to 202 (moderate), and the forecast says "expect good surf conditions." That’s your other real call. After that, the very end of the run into the 24th sees a drop in period to 6-7 seconds – short period windswell – which is a big step down in quality at a point break like this.
Best bet: Clear your calendar for Thursday morning, 9th of July. Glassy, clean, long-period groundswell hitting that exposed reef and point. That’s the one.
