Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about the next couple of weeks at Morro Negrito. This is a reef and point setup, exposed to the SW, and it’s a consistent spot that handles swell well, but it’s strictly for advanced surfers.
We’ve got a long run of small, clean, glassy mornings coming up, with a real standout around the 7th of July. The water is sitting at 86°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s a nice bonus.
The first real highlight is Thursday morning, the 2nd of July. It’s glassy, with a long-period, 0.7m (2ft) SSW groundswell (16 seconds). The combined energy is moderate (328). It’s small, but that long period will wrap nicely around the point, offering clean, lined-up waves. It’s a classic small-wave point session.
The absolute standout, though, is Tuesday morning, the 7th of July. This is the best on offer. We’ve got a clean, glassy morning with a 0.9m (3ft) SSW swell running at 18 seconds – that’s proper groundswell energy. The combined energy jumps to 533 (moderate to strong). The point will transform these long-period lines into beautifully shaped, powerful waves. Expect long, clean rides with that offshore wind hold. This is a morning to clear the schedule for.
The mornings on the 3rd, 5th, 6th, 8th, 9th, 11th, and 12th all offer similar small, clean, glassy conditions with 0.5m to 0.8m (2ft to 3ft) SSW swell, all with periods of 14 to 16 seconds. The combined energy sits around 200 to 400. These are all good, small-wave point sessions. The 4th and 10th have glassy mornings too, but the swell drops a little.
After the 12th of July, the swell fades. From the 13th onwards, we’re looking at a real drop-off. The morning of the 13th might be surfable with a tiny 0.5m (2ft) swell, but after that, the energy drops below 150 and the wave heights stay under 0.5m (2ft). The 15th shows a tiny kick in the morning, but it’s not enough to get excited about. There’s a gap of poor to flat conditions from the 13th through the 16th.
Afternoons throughout the period are mostly a write-off with onshore or cross-shore winds and rain, so stick to the early sessions.
Rusty.
