The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s cookin’ for the next couple of weeks. It’s a slow burner, but there’s a sweet payoff if you’re willing to wait.
The first week is pretty flat and ordinary. From the 22nd through the 28th of August, you’re looking at tiny, weak swells – mostly around 1ft – with poor wind and messy conditions. It’s a real struggle to find anything worth paddling out for. A long, quiet stretch.
Things start to turn on Saturday the 29th of August. The morning at Morro Negrito is the first real highlight. The swell is still small, about 2ft from the SW, but the energy is finally showing up with a reading of 307 (moderate energy). The wind is dead calm, glassy, which is a huge plus for a reef and point break. The wave period is a long 16 seconds, meaning proper groundswell that will wrap nicely around the point. The water is a warm 87°F, much warmer than average for this time of year.
Sunday the 30th of August morning is also decent, with a similar 2ft swell and glassy conditions. It’s a good option, but that Saturday morning glass is the best of the early run.
The absolute standout, though, is Friday the 4th of September. The morning forecast is looking fantastic. We’re talking a 3ft swell from the SW with a very long 18-second period. The energy is pumping at 505 (strong wave energy). The wind is a light cross-offshore breeze from the ESE, which will groom the waves perfectly. This is the pick of the entire outlook. Clean, powerful, and well-shaped.
Saturday the 5th of September morning is also very good, with similar 3ft swell and glassy conditions, so you can make a weekend of it.
So, the first week is a dud, but the end of August and the start of September have some real quality. That Friday the 4th is the one to lock in.
Rusty.
