The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s break down the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, this isn’t a big-swell period. The only consistent option is Morro Negrito - Rivermouth, a river-mouth spot that’s exposed to the southwest. Water temp is about normal for this time of year, nothing crazy.
The surf starts on Tuesday, July 14th, with tiny 2ft SSW swell and a 14-second period. The energy is weak (138), but the morning is glassy – dead flat wind, so it’s clean even if it’s small. Afternoons get a cross-on breeze, so stick to the early sessions.
Wednesday July 15th through Friday July 17th mornings are all glassy, calm or just a light air. Same small 2ft SSW swell, periods between 13-14 seconds, energy between 111 and 133. It’s a longboard or funboard kind of stretch. Crowds can show up sometimes, so don’t be surprised if you see a few others out.
Saturday July 18th and Sunday July 19th mornings stay glassy, still 2ft SSW swell. Energy is moderate but dropping. Monday July 20th morning is glassy too, but the swell drops to 1ft.
Then we hit a real flat spell. From Tuesday July 21st through Thursday July 23rd, the swell is only 1.0ft to 1ft, energy weak (57 to 121). Mornings are glassy, but it’s barely surfable. Friday July 24th morning is the worst – just 0.7ft and cloudy.
Now, here’s the one that might get you out of bed. On Saturday July 25th morning, the Rivermouth gets a 1ft SSW swell with a very long period of 21 seconds – that’s a proper groundswell. Energy jumps to 216 (moderate), and it’s glassy. For a river-mouth, that long period means it’ll wrap in nicely, but it might be a bit straight for a beach break. This is the best session of the whole run, but it’s more than a week out, so treat it as promising but not locked in.
Sunday July 26th morning is also a standout – 2ft SSW swell (the biggest of the forecast) with a 19-second period and glassy conditions. Energy is 287. That’s your other shot. After that, Monday July 27th and Tuesday July 28th mornings are still surfable but smaller again.
The rest of the window into Wednesday July 29th is just more tiny, glassy mornings. There’s a big gap of several days with no real action between the first week and that late July bump.
So, if you’re a beginner, these tiny waves are perfect. If you want something with a bit of push, circle the mornings of July 25th and 26th at Morro Negrito - Rivermouth. Everything else is just a paddle and a glide.
Rusty.
