The Lowdown
Alright, listen up, crew. Rusty here with a look at what’s coming down the pipeline for La Boca Con Con. This spot’s a beginner-friendly wave that breaks very consistently, and it’s fairly exposed to the swell. The water’s sitting at 54°, which is about 2½ degrees colder than what we’d usually expect this time of year – so you’ll want a decent wetsuit. Crowds can be around sometimes, but with the conditions on offer, it might not be too packed.
We kick off on Tuesday 14 July with a solid pulse of groundswell – 10 ft from the WSW, with a long 13s period. The morning is glassy – that’s a rare treat – and the combined energy is strong at 2651. But look, that’s a fair bit of water for a beginner spot; over 8 ft means only the experienced crew should even think about paddling out. Still, if you’ve got the skills, the waves will be clean and powerful. By afternoon the wind swings cross-on and it gets a little lumpy, dropping to 8 ft. Wednesday morning stays clean with 4.6 ft SW groundswell and light offshore cross-off wind, but the energy’s down to 805 – surfable, but nothing special.
Then we hit a rough patch. From Thursday 16 July through Saturday 18 July morning, strong onshore winds (25–31 mph) and messy cross-on conditions turn the lineup into a washing machine. Swells are there but blown out – not worth the struggle. Saturday 18 July afternoon is the first real bright spot: 5.9 ft WNW groundswell at 12s, with a light cross-off from the ENE. Clean conditions, energy 1270 – a decent, fun-sized wave for the intermediate crowd. Sunday and Monday are hit-and-miss with cross-shore chop, but Monday 20 July afternoon cleans up again with 3.3 ft W swell, offshore wind, and glassy texture – small but rideable.
Now here’s where it gets interesting for the second week. Thursday 23 July – that’s over a week out – brings a big, clean morning: 10 ft WSW groundswell, 13s period, light offshore wind, and combined energy of 3416. That’s a lot of power. Again, too big for beginners, but the conditions are pristine. Later that day and into Friday the wind stays light, and Friday 24 July afternoon is glassy with 10 ft W swell at 10s – energy 1699. Another expert-only session, but if you can handle it, the waves will be epic. The following Saturday morning eases slightly to 6.9 ft with clean cross-off wind
