The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s cooking at La Boca Con Con over the next couple of weeks.
Right now, things are pretty flat and messy. The water here is sitting at 57°, which is about normal for this time of year, so no shock there. We’ve got a bit of a slow start, but don’t tune out – there’s some real magic building on the horizon.
Sunday is a write-off, and Monday the 24th is barely a whisper. You’ll see a tiny 2ft SSW groundswell with a 13-second period, and Monday morning is glassy – dead calm, no wind. It’s surfable, but it’s very ordinary. You’d be paddling around for scraps.
The first real glimmer comes Wednesday the 26th. Morning glass again, with a 4ft WSW swell, 10-second period, and the combined energy is moderate (575). That afternoon, it bumps up to 5ft with a clean cross-off wind. We’re talking clean, fun waves – not huge, but a solid session for the intermediate crew.
Now, hold onto your board. Thursday the 27th is a beast. An 12ft WSW groundswell rolls in with a 15-second period, and the energy is extreme (5220). That’s big, powerful, long-period stuff. The wind is light cross-on in the morning, clean offshore in the afternoon though. This is expert territory only – over 8ft, and with that period, it’s going to be a heavy, lurching swell at a beach break. Only for the brave. The same goes for Friday morning the 28th, with 8ft and glassy conditions – excellent wave quality, but only for experienced surfers.
If you’re looking for the standout of the whole run, I’d point to Saturday the 29th. The swell drops to a more manageable 7ft, 12-second period from the WSW, and the energy is still strong (1140). Saturday morning is glassy. This is that sweet spot – big enough to get excited, clean as a whistle, but not so huge it’s terrifying. The crowds can pop up here sometimes, so get in early.
We get more good ones on Monday the 31st and Tuesday the 1st of September, with clean cross-off winds and 7ft to 5ft swell. Solid.
Then, the real cherry on top: Wednesday the 2nd of September. The afternoon turns glassy, with a 6ft WSW groundswell pumping in at a very long 15-second period. The combined energy is strong (1432). This is a classic La Boca setup – long period, glassy, clean. The waves will have shape, power, and long waits between sets. Best for a point or reef, but if the banks are right, it’ll be unreal.
Thursday the 3rd of September morning is also an absolute standout: 7ft, 13-second period, WSW, glassy, excellent conditions for experienced surfers (2786 energy). Honestly, that’s the pick of the whole forecast. If you can only surf one day, make it Thursday the 3rd morning.
The second week stays decent, with 8ft swell through the 5th and 6th, but the winds get a bit more cross and onshore, and the quality drops to marginal. Not a total loss, but not the magic of that first week.
To sum it up: the first few days are flat, then it builds into a solid, clean swell window from the 26th right through to the 3rd of September. The two absolute standouts are Saturday the 29th morning and Thursday the 3rd of September morning. Don’t sleep on Wednesday the 2nd of September afternoon either. Get out there.
Rusty.
