Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, surfers, Rusty here, and I've been staring at the charts for Algarrobo. It's a bit of a mixed bag, but there's definitely some real potential if you play your cards right. The water temp is sitting at 54°F, which is a bit colder than what we'd normally see this time of year. The good news is this spot keeps picking up swell from the southwest.
Things get going Sunday morning, July 5th. We've got a solid 6ft SW groundswell rolling in with a super long 16-second period. The wave energy is strong (1987), but the wind is a light cross-shore from the SSE. It'll be a bit bumpy, but there's enough oomph to make it worthwhile for the crew who don't mind a little texture. By the afternoon, the wind swings more cross-onshore, so the morning is definitely your window.
Monday, July 6th, looks similar. Still a chunky 6ft SW swell on the 15-second period in the morning, with a gentler cross-shore wind. The energy is still there (1336). It's not perfect, but it's rideable. The afternoons this whole first week are getting chopped up, so aim for the early sessions.
Now, listen up. The real standout window is going to be a bit of a wait, but it's worth it. We have a period of cleaner conditions arriving Thursday, July 16th. The morning has a solid 8ft SW swell (2139 energy) and, crucially, we're getting a moderate cross-offshore breeze from the north. That sets up some clean, lined-up waves. This swell is big, over 8ft by the afternoon, so this is for the experienced crew only.
But the absolute best call on the whole forecast is Friday, July 17th, through Saturday morning, July 18th. On Friday afternoon, the swell drops to 3ft, but the period is a staggering 17 seconds. That's a deep-water groundswell with serious push. The wind goes cross-offshore, making for clean walls. Then, Saturday morning, July 18th, will be pure magic. We're looking at a 4ft SW swell with a 14-second period and glassy conditions – zero wind. The water will be like a mirror, and those waves will be groomed to perfection. The energy reads 1080, moderate but punchy.
This spot can get crowded at times, and given how clean that Saturday is going to be, you'll want to be in the water early.
From mid-July on, there's more waves, but the wind gets messy again until that Thursday, and then finally cleans up for that epic Friday and Saturday window. There's a stretch from the 11th to the 13th where it's pretty poor and choppy, but don't let that fool you – July 18th is the day to circle on the calendar.
Rusty, signing off.
