Table - best surf conditions forecast for Algarrobo over the next 16 days.
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s look at what’s lining up at Algarrobo. This is a reef and pier setup, very consistent, exposed to the SW swell. The water’s sitting at 54°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year – about 2.5° below average, so you’ll want a thick wetsuit.
The first few days are a write-off. Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th are a mess with cross-onshore winds and poor surf, nothing worth paddling out for. Monday the 13th picks up a bit but it’s marginal, with a 5.6 ft swell from the west and an 18-second period on the morning, building to 7.9 ft in the arvo. The energy jumps (2201 and 3118), but the wind is still cross-on, so it’s messy and only for the keen.
The standout window starts Tuesday the 14th. Morning looks glassy – calm wind, zero knots – with a solid 9.8 ft swell from the WSW, 13-second period, and strong energy (2832). That’s big, expert-only territory. The afternoon cleans up with a light cross-off breeze and 8.2 ft swell (2329 energy). This is prime for experienced crew. Wednesday the 15th drops off but stays clean, with a 4.9 ft swell in the morning and cross-off wind – still good fun for strong intermediates.
The next big call is Friday the 17th morning: 9.8 ft from the NW, 10-second period, but with a fresh cross-off wind and 3200 energy. It’s clean, but that’s a lot of power for a beach break, and the period is short, so it’ll be lumpy. Better for the experts. Saturday the 18th morning is another standout: 9.8 ft from the NW, 10 seconds, clean wind, and strong energy (2008). Again, big and expert only.
Sunday the 19th afternoon is a gem for the more experienced: 6.2 ft from the west, 12-second period, with a gentle offshore breeze from the ENE (1394 energy). That’s clean, lined up, and the offshore will hold the faces open. After that, the swell backs off through the 20th and 21st, with Monday the 20th blown out by a gale. Tuesday the 21st afternoon and Wednesday the 22nd morning offer clean, smaller waves (5.2 ft and 4.3 ft) with light winds – good for a longboard or a fun cruiser session.
The last week fades into small, weak surf with periods of cross-on wind. The best of the late period is Thursday the 24th: glassy morning with a 2.0 ft swell from the SW, 16-second period, and clean as a whistle. Tiny but soulful.
Overall, the clear standout is Tuesday the 14th – that glassy morning with 9.8 ft is a serious session for the big-wave lot. The other highlight is Sunday the 19th afternoon: 6.2 ft, offshore, friendly. This is a very consistent spot, so even if the first few days are rats, there’s plenty to come. Stay keen.
