The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s coming up at Islares over the next couple of weeks, and I’ll be honest – there’s not a whole lot to get excited about.
For the first twelve days, from Thursday the 6th of August all the way through Monday the 17th, the surf is basically a no-show. Swell heights are tiny, mostly under 2 feet, and the energy readings are weak, barely hitting 50 early on. We get some glassy mornings on Saturday the 8th and Tuesday the 11th, but with no swell to work with, it’s just a flat, pretty ocean. A real bummer.
The only real pulse we see arrives on Tuesday the 18th of August. Swell builds to about 5 feet from the NW, with a period of 9 seconds, and the combined swell energy jumps to 437 – that’s a moderate, rideable amount of juice. But the wind is cross-shore in the morning and turns cross-onshore later, so it’s not going to be clean. The forecast calls it marginal, so it’s more about getting wet than scoring perfect waves. Still, it’s the best thing on offer.
Islares is usually a fairly consistent spot, so this long flat spell is unusual. Forecasts can change, so keep an eye out, but for now, the next week and a half is a tough one. Hang in there.
