The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s see what’s cooking at La Arena.
For the first week and a half, it’s a real bust. Nothing worth talking about until the morning of the 23rd of July. After that, it’s a few days of knee-high, weak stuff before we finally get a pulse.
The only real standout is the morning of the 28th of July. That’s your window. The water is running much warmer than usual for this time of year, sitting at 73°F, which is a nice bonus.
La Arena (La Arena)
On the morning of Monday the 28th of July, we’ve got a clean 6ft swell from the NW with a 9-second period. The wind is dead glassy, coming light from the NNW. The combined energy is strong at 968, so it’s got some proper grunt. This is a solid wave, pushing over 6ft, so it’s getting a bit too serious for beginners – you’ll want some experience under your belt. The direction is a good match for the break. Crowds can be a problem here sometimes, so you might have some company. The rest of the days around that are either wind-affected or smaller.
There are a few other mornings with glassy conditions and clean, small waves, like the 23rd of July morning with a 2ft swell from the NNE, but the energy is weak (60) and the waves are just average. The mornings of the 30th and 31st of July are similar – glassy, but tiny clean waves that are fine for a log but nothing to rush for.
So, the first week is a write-off. Focus on the 28th of July morning for the best chance of a proper session. After that, it’s back to small, average dribble.
Rusty.
