Table - best surf conditions forecast for Honolii Beach Park over the next 16 days.
Alright, folks, Rusty here, and I’m gonna lay it out straight for you.
The next stretch of surf at Honolii Beach Park is a tough one. We’ve got a solid week and a half of onshore and cross-onshore winds from the NE and ENE, and all that wind is just smashing any chance of decent waves. For the first ten days or so, it’s all short-period windswell, just choppy and awful. The water temp is 80°F, right where it should be for July.
From Wednesday, July 8th up until about Saturday, July 18th, the swell is running between 3ft and 6ft, with periods of just 7 seconds. That’s pure junk. The energy is weak to moderate, never topping 263, so there’s no power. It’s bumpy, messy, and a waste of your time.
Things get a little more interesting around Sunday, July 19th. We see the swell direction swing around to the ENE, staying around 5ft to 6ft, but the period finally climbs to 8 seconds. The wind is still light cross-onshore, so it’s not clean, but at least it’s not blown out. The energy picks up into the moderate range, hitting 370-456. It’s marginal, but you can see a little shape forming.
The only real standout is Tuesday, July 21st and Wednesday, July 22nd. A proper groundswell arrives, with the period jumping to 17 seconds on Tuesday morning. The combined energy rockets up to a very strong 1156. The wave height drops to about 4ft, but with that long period, it’s got serious push. The wind is from the ENE at 15 km/h, which is cross-onshore, so it won't be glassy, but the long-period energy will create some lined-up, fun waves. Just remember that long-period swells can be a bit straight on a beach break, so the river mouth might be the place to be. The long period hangs around for the next day or so.
So to sum it up: you’ve got a long, dry spell of poor surf for about 10 days. Then you get one little pulse of marginal conditions, and finally that big groundswell on the 21st. That’s the one day to circle on the calendar.
Stay patient, and check back in.
Rusty.
