The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what the ocean’s got in store for us over the next couple of weeks. It’s gonna be a bit of a slow burn, but there’s some fire on the horizon if you’re patient.
Right off the bat, the surf is pretty gutless. For the first four or five days, we’re looking at weak, short-period windswell with poor conditions. The energy is weak, and the breeze is mostly on or cross-onshore. It’s mushy, it’s lumpy, not worth paddling out for. Think of it as a rest week. The break is Honolii Beach Park, a river mouth, and it’s super consistent, but even consistency can’t save this flat spell.
The first real glimmer of hope shows up on Saturday the 22nd. The swell bumps up slightly to about 4.9ft, and the energy climbs to a moderate level. It’s still cross-shore wind, so it’ll be a bit bumpy, but it’s a start. It’s a marginal call, more for the dedicated than the casual.
Then things get interesting on Sunday the 23rd. The swell pulses up to around 5.9ft in the morning, with the energy jumping to a strong level. It’s still a short-period E swell though. The morning wind is light cross-onshore, which is okay, but it’s still not super clean. It’s promising, but not the standout.
The real standout, the one you’ve been waiting for, is Thursday the 27th of August. This is the big one. The swell is a solid 11.5ft from the E with a period of 12 seconds. We’re talking a proper groundswell. The energy is huge, over 3000. The wind is light cross-onshore, so it should be relatively clean. This is a sizable, powerful swell. At 11.5ft, this is not for the faint of heart. This is expert territory. This is the day for the crew who knows what they’re doing, and they’ll be rewarded. Honolii is a river mouth, and this long-period swell could set up some nice lines. Just be aware, it’s big.
Friday the 28th is still holding some size. The morning shows 8.2ft from the N, but the afternoon jumps back to 11.5ft from the ENE with an 11-second period. Energy stays strong. Still big, still powerful, but that mix of N and ENE swell could make it a little more crossed up.
After that, it seems to ease off pretty quickly. The 29th and 30th see the size drop back down to the 4-5ft range with less energy. By Tuesday the 1st of September, it’s almost nothing. So, there’s your window. Don’t sleep on that Thursday the 27th. That’s the one.
Alright, that’s the look. Stay safe out there.
