Table - best surf conditions forecast for Napier - Hardings Road over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ve gotta be straight with you – this 16-day outlook for Napier’s Hardings Road is a tough one. We’re looking at a long, dry spell with hardly a ripple worth getting wet for. The first real hope doesn’t even show up until Tuesday the 14th, and even then, it’s barely a whisper.
The water’s sitting at a chilly 55°F, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so you’ll want a decent wetsuit if you’re even thinking about it.
The overall pattern is flat. There’s a massive gap from now, Friday the 10th, all the way through to Monday the 13th with absolutely zero surf on offer. Just clean, empty ocean. The first sign of life comes on Tuesday the 14th, but it’s as weak as it gets. We’re talking a tiny 2ft to 2ft swell from the NE, with a period of just 4 seconds – that’s pure wind chop, no energy to speak of. The combined energy is a pathetic 8 on Tuesday morning and 29 in the afternoon. The wind is onshore or cross-onshore, making it choppy and messy. Not worth the paddle.
We get a bit more of the same on Wednesday the 15th with even smaller waves, then nothing again. There’s a slight blip on Monday the 20th, with a 1.0ft to 2ft swell from the ENE to E, period creeping up to 6-7 seconds. The energy is still low at 39, and the wind is light, keeping it clean. But it’s still tiny and inconsistent.
The best chance in this whole forecast is a tiny window on Tuesday the 21st in the afternoon. We get a 2ft swell from the NE, but the period jumps to 10 seconds – that’s a proper groundswell pulse, even if small. The combined energy hits 82 (moderate). The wind is light cross-shore, so it’ll be a bit lined up. It’s not a standout by any stretch, but it’s the only time the ocean has any real pulse in it. For a beginner spot like this, it’s just about surfable, but don’t expect any power.
The rest of the run into the 25th is flat again. Honestly, this is a blank run. The spot is inconsistent at the best of times, and this forecast proves it. If you’re desperate for a splash, the 21st afternoon is your only shot, but keep your expectations on the floor. For the rest of us, it’s a good time to fix the ding and wait for the next system.
Rusty.
