Table - best surf conditions forecast for Francis Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s talk Francis Beach in feet and Fahrenheit. The next 16 days, from July 12th through the 27th, are looking pretty bleak. Not a single session I’d recommend. The water is running way warmer than normal – about 60°F, which is 4°F above the long-term average for this time of year. Feels like a warm bath, but the waves are a total letdown.
The first few days bring a small WNW swell around 4 to 5 ft, with a short period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is moderate, ranging from 305 to 556. Wind is onshore or cross-onshore from the west or northwest, light to moderate. A few mornings have a light breeze and “marginal” conditions, but the quality is still poor. By Thursday July 16th, the swell jumps to 7 ft and the combined energy rockets to 1480–1491 (strong), but with a moderate cross-onshore breeze making it choppy and messy – only for the hardcore, and even then it’s not worth it.
From July 18th onward, the swell drops to 2 to 3 ft and shifts to a long-period SW groundswell (16–18 seconds). That’s better suited for a point or reef, but at a beach break like Francis, those long-period waves tend to close out or break too straight. The energy is still moderate (328–762), but the wind remains cross-onshore or onshore, so the surface is bumpy. The best you can hope for is a marginal morning on July 23rd with a 2 ft SSW swell and light onshore wind, scoring a 2 out of 10 – that’s the “least bad” of the lot.
Honestly, there’s no standout here. The whole 16-day window is a blank run for decent surf. But Francis Beach is fairly consistent as a beginner spot, so it tends not to stay this flat and messy for long. Forecasts can change, so keep an eye on the wind – if it ever swings offshore, those small swells could clean up. But right now, I wouldn’t bother paddling out. Save your energy.
