The Lowdown
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Antibes - Fort Carre over the next 16 days. I’ll be straight with you – this stretch is looking pretty flat and quiet. The water’s sitting at a warm 82°, which is way warmer than normal for this time of year, so if you’re just after a swim, it’s perfect. For surf though? We’ve got a big gap of nothing worthwhile.
The first real shot at something rideable doesn’t show up until Tuesday 28 July. That morning, there’s a tiny pulse of swell from the south, 3ft at 7 seconds, with a combined energy of 148 (moderate). The wind is light and slightly offshore from the northwest, so the surface is clean. But these are small, weak waves – more of a longboard cruiser than anything exciting. The afternoon sees the wind swing onshore, chopping it up, so the morning is your only window. This is the standout session in the whole outlook, but it’s a low-key one.
Before that, from Sunday 19 July all the way through to Monday 27 July afternoon, the surf is mostly below 1ft, with periods of 3 to 6 seconds, and the combined energy never gets above 27 (weak). Wind is often cross-onshore or onshore, and the wave comment is poor. There’s a brief moment on Wednesday 22 July afternoon where the swell bumps to 3ft at 5 seconds, but it’s cross-shore wind and still messy. Not worth paddling out.
After the 28th, it drops right back off. From Wednesday 29 July through to the end of the outlook on Monday 3 August, we’re looking at tiny dribbles – 0.3ft to 1ft, mostly 1 to 7 seconds combined energy, and the wind is often cross-onshore. A few glassy mornings pop up, like Friday 31 July morning, but there’s barely any swell to work with.
So, the verdict: this is a long, flat run for the Antibes - Fort Carre reef. The spot is inconsistent and exposed to east swell, but the optimum swell is from the east, and we’re not getting that. The only real chance to get wet and catch a few little ones is the morning of Tuesday 28 July. For anything more, you’d be better off checking the forecast again in a few days – things can change. But right now, it’s a quiet stretch.
Rusty.
