Alright, let’s talk about what’s going on in the Antibes area. To be straight with you, it’s looking flat as a pancake for the next couple of weeks. The only wave we’ve got to talk about is Antibes - Fort Carre, a reef break that doesn’t break often and is only for beginners when it does.
The core problem is a total lack of swell. We’re talking about waves that are barely a foot and a half at best, with periods of only 3 to 5 seconds, so there’s no grunt at all. The combined energy reading hits a high of just 12 (weak) on the 19th. From the 5th right through to the 12th, it’s a dead zone. You might see a hint of 0.6ft to 1ft on the Monday and Tuesday, but it’s just poor quality.
There’s a tiny bit of pulse around the 14th and 15th, with a 1ft to 2ft SSW and Easterly swell, but it’s still tiny and the wind is mostly light cross-onshore, messing it up. The water temp on the 5th is a very unusual 78°, which is 8° warmer than normal for July – that’s a big anomaly.
If you’re looking for the “best” of a bad bunch, it’s the morning of the 19th and the 20th. On the 19th, there’s a 2ft SSW groundswell with a 5-second period and an energy of 12 (weak). The wind is light and onshore, so it’s not clean. The next morning, the 20th, is glassy, but it’s only for a 0.6ft wave. For the rest of the window, it’s just flat and bleak. This stretch is more of a kite-surfing scenario than a paddling one. It’s a long dry run.
Rusty.
