Alright, Rusty here, looking at the same picture for Antibes - Fort Carre but in feet and knots. I’ll level with you – this forecast is a bummer.
We are staring down a solid stretch of flat-to-tiny conditions that lasts for well over a week. The swell energy readings are pitiful, most days in the single digits, and what little bump we see is short-period and weak. It’s like the ocean is on holiday.
The water temp is cooking at 84°, which is way off the norm – 10° warmer than usual for this time of year. Feels like a hot tub, but it won't put a wave under you.
Let’s run through it. On Sunday, July 26th, there is a tiny 1ft wave from the east with a 5-second period. The combined energy is a paltry 11. The morning has a light offshore breeze from the WNW at 6 mph, but the afternoon turns to crap with a cross-shore from the south at 12 mph, chopping everything up. Monday the 27th morning is glassy, but the swell is only 1.0ft – it’s unsurfable. This kind of near-zero energy repeats day after day. Wednesday the 29th of July morning is glassy, but the swell is a laughable 0.3ft. You’re just bobbing.
We go into the first week of August and the story doesn’t change. The 3rd of August morning is glassy with a 1ft swell, but a period of 4 seconds? That’s just wind chop with no power. There’s a little blip on Thursday the 6th of August – a 2ft swell from the southwest with a 6-second period, pushing the combined energy up to 38. But the wind is onshore from the east at 3 mph, making for a bumpy, poor surface. That’s the biggest pulse we get in the whole sixteen days, and it’s still a poor wave.
The morning of Saturday the 8th of August is glassy with a light offshore breeze, but the swell is only 0.7ft from the east. It’s a tease. From the 9th of August onward, the energy readings drop right back to zero. We are talking about a massive gap of days with no surfable waves.
There is no standout here. No hidden gem. This entire 16-day outlook for Fort Carre is a shutout. The break rarely gets good without a proper push, and the forecast gives it nothing.
All we can do is wait for the next one.
Rusty.
