Table - best surf conditions forecast for Forster Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it for the local stretch. We’ve got a bit of a mixed bag over the next couple of weeks, with some decent windows opening up, especially if you’re willing to be patient.
The water temp is sitting at 68°, which is a touch warmer than average for this time of year but nothing too wild. The first real call to action kicks off Friday the 10th up at Forster Beach. Early morning on the 10th, we’re looking at a solid 6ft SE swell, with that energy clocking in at 769 (moderate). The wind is light and cross-off from the WSW at just 3 mph, which will have the surface looking clean. It’s a pretty good start, but the swell period is 10 seconds – decent enough but nothing epic. It’s a beginner-friendly break, but this size is pushing the upper limit for newbies. The crowd factor is worth a mention; it’s often busy, so expect company.
Saturday the 11th morning is cleaner but smaller. Swell drops to 3ft from the ESE, period stretches to 12 seconds, and the energy is 511 (moderate). Wind is light cross-off again from the NW. This is a nice window for the less experienced crew, as it’s much more manageable. The longer period will give the waves a bit more shape, but at a beach break it might wall up a bit.
Sunday the 12th morning we get proper offshore wind – 16 mph from the W – and swell drops to 3ft from the ESE. Energy is weak at 152. It’s surfable but very ordinary. After that, the week turns pretty grim. Monday the 13th through Tuesday the 14th offers tiny, weak swell with messy wind, and by Wednesday the 15th we get a jump in size but with poor conditions. The 15th afternoon sees an 8ft S swell, energy spiking to 880 (moderate), but wind is a fresh 22 mph cross-off, making for a brutal session.
Then the big stuff rolls in. Thursday the 17th of July is a beast – 15ft SE swell with 12-second period, energy screaming at 5801 (strong to very strong). But that’s way too large for Forster Beach, and it’s cross-onshore. This is a “wind and tide favorable but too big” situation – leave this one to the experts or the kite crew. Honestly, with that much power and onshore wind, the setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
The real standout arrives on Sunday the 19th of July morning. We’ve got a 10ft SE swell with 11-second period, energy at 2190 (strong). The wind is glassy from the NW at just 3 mph, making for excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers. This is the pick of the entire run if you know what you’re doing. It’s still big, so not for beginners, but the clean, glassy surface and that long-period groundswell will produce proper waves.
After that, things settle down. Monday the 20th to Wednesday the 22nd offers smaller, cleaner waves for the early birds – 3ft to 5ft SE swell with clean offshore winds. Then on Friday the 24th afternoon and especially Saturday the 25th morning, we get another nice pulse. Saturday the 25th morning is looking prime: 6ft ESE swell, 10-second period, energy at 818 (moderate), and glassy conditions with the wind going NNW at 3 mph. That’s a beauty of a session with clean, lined-up waves for a broader range of surfers.
So to boil it down: if you’re an experienced surfer, don’t miss Sunday the 19th of July. For the rest of us, Saturday the 25th of July morning is the best all-round bet – clean, glassy, and a solid size.
Stay wet, stay stoked.
