Table - best surf conditions forecast for Forster Beach over the next 16 days.
G'day, I'm Rusty. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for Forster Beach over the next couple of weeks.
We're in for a bit of a mixed bag here. The early part of the week is pretty ordinary, and then we get a massive pulse of energy that's simply too big for this beach. The real standout comes a week later, on Monday the 20th, when conditions finally line up for a proper session.
The water temp is sitting at 68°, which is about average for this time of year, so nothing unusual there.
Okay, Monday the 13th morning is where we start. It's surfable but very ordinary, with a 4ft swell from the SW and a short period of 7 seconds. The wind is light and cross-off, but the energy is moderate (202). It's not great, but it's the best of a bad bunch in the early days.
Tuesday the 14th morning is tiny, with 1.0ft from the SSW and almost no energy (24). The wind is offshore though, so it's clean, but there's just nothing to ride. Wednesday the 15th is where things get serious. The morning sees a 7ft S swell with a fresh cross-off wind, but the energy is strong (467). By Wednesday afternoon, it's an 12ft S swell with a 10-second period, and the energy is very strong (2493). The wind is fresh cross-off, but the swell is too big for this break. This is for experts only, and even then, it's pushing it.
Thursday the 16th through to Sunday the 19th is a run of big, messy, onshore surf. Swells sit between 7ft and 13ft, with cross and cross-on winds from the SSE. The energy is very strong throughout, reaching over 4000, but the quality is poor. Not worth paddling out for the average surfer. This looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Now, Monday the 20th – this is the one. The morning is glassy, with a light offshore from the WSW and only 3 mph wind. There's an 8ft E swell with a 10-second period, and the energy is strong (1579). The conditions are excellent for experienced surfers. This is a big, clean groundswell, and with those light winds, it'll be a proper session for those who know what they're doing. The wave direction is from the E, which is a good match for the break's optimum SE direction. Crowds are possible at this spot.
Tuesday the 21st morning is another good option. A 7ft E swell with an 11-second period, light offshore wind from the WNW, and clean conditions. The energy is strong (1150). This is still very good, and the longer period will give it some punch. Again, this is for experienced surfers.
From Wednesday the 22nd onwards, the swell drops right back. Wednesday morning has a 5ft E swell with a light cross-off wind, good for a cruisy session. Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th mornings also have clean, offshore winds with 3ft E swells, but the energy is only moderate. By Saturday the 25th and into the following week, it's small and ordinary, with swells under 4ft and moderate energy, nothing to get excited about.
So, to sum it up: the best on offer is Monday the 20th morning at Forster Beach with that glassy 8ft E swell. The second best is Tuesday the 21st morning. Forget the middle of the week, it's just too big and messy.
Rusty.
