Table - best surf conditions forecast for Forster Beach over the next 16 days.
G'day, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table for Forster Beach over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, it's a slow start. Saturday afternoon is a write-off – messy cross-on wind and poor conditions. The surf just isn't there yet. You'll have to sit tight for a bit.
Sunday morning, the 12th, things start to wake up. We've got a clean, offshore west wind at 15 mph, and the swell is a modest 3 ft out of the ESE. It's not going to blow your socks off, but it's surfable. The water temp is sitting at 68°, which is pretty normal for this time of year, so a steamer is still a good idea.
Monday morning the 13th is a similar story – small clean waves with a light offshore breeze. The swell is 3 ft from the SSW, but with a short period of 7 seconds, it's a bit weak and won't have much punch. The combined energy is only 82 (weak energy), so it's more of a longboard or a foamie kind of day.
Tuesday the 14th stays small and clean in the morning, but by Wednesday the 15th, we get a bit of a kick. Wednesday afternoon sees the swell jump to 8 ft from the S with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy is 785 (moderate to strong), and it's clean under a cross-off breeze. That's getting into the range where it's a bit too much for beginners, but it's a step in the right direction.
Now, the real standout is coming. The best of the whole outlook is hands down Thursday, July 24th, in the morning. Forster Beach is a fairly exposed beach break, and the optimum swell direction is SE. The swell is 8 ft from the SSW, but the real magic is the wind – glassy conditions with a light offshore breeze from the WSW. The combined energy is a massive 1979 (strong to very strong wave energy). This is big, powerful surf. At 8 ft, with a short period of 8 seconds, it's going to be a bit crumbly and dumpy, but for experienced surfers, it's excellent. The crowds are often here, so get there early if you want a piece.
Another beauty to circle is Monday, July 21st, in the morning. The swell is 8 ft from the east with a very long period of 13 seconds. That's proper groundswell. The combined energy is 2221 (very strong). The wind is a clean offshore from the SW. This is a big, powerful, long-period swell. At a beach break, it might be a bit too lined up and straight, but the energy is incredible. It's absolutely for experts only. The crowds will be out, but it's worth it.
For the rest of the week, there are a few other decent mornings. Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th offer some solid waves in the 5 ft to 6 ft range, but the wind is cross or cross-off, so it's not as clean as the standouts. The swell is consistent, but the conditions are marginal.
The second week gets a bit more mixed. The 22nd and 23rd have some good-looking clean swells, but the wind turns a little trickier. The 25th starts with a nice glassy morning, but the swell drops back to 4 ft. The 26th fades out with a messy onshore wind.
So, to sum it up: the first few days are small and slow. The real action kicks off around the 15th, with the absolute peak being Thursday, July 24th, morning, and a close second being Monday, July 21st, morning. Those are the sessions to lock in for. The rest is solid but not spectacular.
Rusty.
