The Lowdown
Alright crew, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for Forster Beach over the next couple of weeks. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, but there’s a couple of gems hiding in there if you’re patient.
Right now, the water temp is sitting at 68°, which is pretty normal for this time of year, so nothing wild there.
The week kicks off with a bit of a whimper. Wednesday 15 July has some swell, but the wind is a messy cross-off from the SSW, and the energy is weak (303). Thursday 16 is a write-off with poor conditions and cross-shore chop. Friday 17 and Saturday 18 are looking average at best, with cross-onshore winds and choppy, messy waves. Sunday 19 brings a bigger pulse of swell – 10 ft from the E with a solid 10-second period, and the energy ramps up to 1886. But the wind is still cross-onshore, making it a bit of a messy big wave day. That’s expert territory at that size with the wind on it.
The first real standout arrives on Wednesday 22 July. The morning is glassy – dead calm – with a clean 5 ft swell from the ENE, period 10 seconds, and a moderate energy of 498. The wind is offshore out of the west, and the break is fairly exposed to the swell. This is the kind of session where you paddle out and it feels like your own private wave. Get on it.
The best of the best, though, is Thursday 23 July. Morning has a 7 ft swell from the east, period 12 seconds, and a solid energy of 1073. The wind is offshore from the WNW, making it clean. The afternoon then turns glassy, with 6 ft waves and an 11-second period. This is top-shelf stuff for Forster Beach. The swell direction is a bit south of the optimum SE, but it’s still a ripper.
Friday 24 July morning is still good – 6 ft, 11-second period, cross-off wind from the SW – but the afternoon gets chopped up. After that, the surf slowly fades into the weekend and into the end of the month. The week after, from 25 July onwards, the size drops to 5 ft and below, with patchy winds. There’s a few clean mornings with light offshore breezes on 26, 27, and 28 July, but the waves are small (3 ft to 4 ft) and the energy is low (under 500). Worth a paddle for the longboard or a fun foil session, but not a standout.
So, the call is: Wednesday 22 July morning for the glass, and Thursday 23 July is the pick of the whole outlook. The swell is solid, the wind is right, and the energy is pumping. Get out there.
Rusty.
