The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at what's shaping up for Forster Beach over the next couple of weeks. We've got a bit of a slow start, but there are some good windows if you pick your moments.
Right off the bat, Forster Beach is showing some decent potential. The water's sitting at a pretty standard 66°, which is about average for this time of year, so no need for a thick wetsuit just yet.
Sunday morning is where it's at to kick things off. We've got a 4ft southerly swell, with a nice 12-second period, and the wind is glassy out of the ESE at just 3 mph. That's going to make for some clean, smooth waves. The combined energy is solid at 410, so there's plenty of push. This is the pick of the early period.
Don't bother with Sunday afternoon though – the wind swings onshore and it'll get messy fast.
Monday and Tuesday are write-offs with poor conditions and lumpy, choppy seas.
Now, Wednesday the 26th brings a turnaround. Morning session looks clean with a 5ft NE swell and a nice cross-off breeze from the SW at 9 mph. The waves will be a little soft on the period at 8 seconds, but it'll be rideable and clean.
Thursday the 27th morning is another good shout. A 5ft southerly swell, 8-second period, with a clean cross-off breeze from the south at 6 mph. Clean conditions, moderate energy (376), and the swell is just about right for a good paddle.
Friday the 28th morning is a standout. Glassy conditions again, with a 5ft southerly swell and a 10-second period. The wind is a whisper from the NNE at just 3 mph. The energy is strong at 482. This is going to be a beautiful morning for a surf, with clean lines and plenty of power.
Saturday the 29th morning offers a smaller, cleaner option with a 3ft SSE swell and a cross-off breeze.
Sunday the 30th is tiny, just 2ft, so only worth a look if you're desperate for a paddle.
Now, here's where it gets interesting. Monday the 31st is a serious standout. The morning brings a 3ft S swell, but with a massive 19-second period. That's proper groundswell energy, and the combined energy is pumping at 611. The wind is a clean cross-off from the SW. At this size, it's not going to be a big wave, but the quality of the wave will be top-notch. This is a long-period groundswell, so it might break a bit straight at a beach break like Forster, but for a clean, long wall, it'll be a treat.
The afternoon of the 31st and into Tuesday the 1st of September keeps that long-period energy going, but the winds become less favorable. The morning of the 1st has a 4ft southerly swell with a 15-second period and a cross breeze, so it might be a bit lumpy.
After that, the surf really drops off. From Wednesday the 2nd of September through to the end of the outlook, we're looking at tiny, weak waves, mostly under 3ft, with poor to marginal conditions. There's a brief flash on Friday the 4th afternoon with a glassy 3ft southerly swell, but the period is short at 8 seconds. It's surfable, but nothing to write home about. The rest of the second week is a write-off.
So, to sum it up: Sunday the 23rd morning and Friday the 28th morning are your top picks for clean, fun waves. But the real standout is Monday the 31st morning – that long-period groundswell is going to offer some beautiful, clean waves, even if it's not huge. Get on it if you can.
Stay stoked.
Rusty.
