The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again, giving you the lowdown for Forster Beach in feet and Fahrenheit.
First thing’s first, the start of this run is a bit of a dud. Onshore winds and messy conditions mean you’re better off waiting. The first real chance to get wet comes Wednesday morning, the 26th of August. The wind is light offshore out of the southwest at 6 mph, and we’ve got surf around 5ft from the northeast with an 8-second period. That light cross-offshore breeze will keep it clean, and the combined energy is a moderate 280. It’s still small enough for beginners.
Now, the one to circle on your calendar is Tuesday morning, the 1st of September. It’s dead glassy, wind barely a whisper from the north-northeast at 3 mph, and the swell is a clean 4ft from the south. But the period? Fifteen seconds. That’s serious long-period groundswell with a heap of energy (710 combined). These waves will have proper shape and power. It’s a cracker of a morning, just expect longer waits between sets. Still a good height for most skill levels.
After that, the surf goes quiet for a few days, dropping under three feet with onshore winds most afternoons. But Saturday, the 5th of September afternoon brings a clean offshore breeze from the west at 9 mph and a solid 5ft south swell. The period is a short 6 seconds, so it’ll be a bit bouncy, but that offshore wind will clean it right up. Combined energy is moderate at 335.
Then Sunday morning, the 6th of September, is another glassy winner: light winds, 4ft of south swell with a 10-second period and 489 combined energy. Clean and consistent. Monday the 7th of September morning is also worth a look with light northwesterly cross-offshore winds and 4ft of south swell at 10 seconds, energy at 288.
Water temp is about 66°F, which is right on average for this time of year, nothing unusual.
So, for the best sessions: Wednesday the 26th is a gentle intro, but Tuesday the 1st of September is the standout for quality. It’s a little ways off, so keep an eye on it.
Rusty.
