The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming our way.
Honestly, it’s a pretty flat start to the outlook. We’ve got a big gap of nothing from now, Tuesday the 14th, all the way through to the end of Saturday the 18th. A few tiny waves pop up on the 16th and 17th, but they’re all showing as poor surf conditions with cross-onshore winds, so not worth even thinking about.
The first real sign of life shows up on Sunday morning the 19th. The swell is building, but it’s still cross-onshore and choppy, so it’s not a recommendation. The real turn comes on Monday the 20th. That’s the standout window. Bulli Beach is looking prime. The wind goes glassy, dead calm, and we’ve got a clean 6ft to 6ft easterly groundswell with a solid 10-second period. The energy is moderate to strong (607 on Monday morning). That’s the best on offer. The swell direction is ENE, and the optimum for this spot is NE, so it’s a solid match. The water temp is sitting about 65°, which is pretty standard for this time of year, nothing wild.
Tuesday the 21st keeps the party going with glassy morning conditions and 5ft ENE swell, but the afternoon gets a bit scrappy as the wind swings cross-shore. Still, the morning is a good call.
Then we hit a bit of a lull with some messy cross-onshore winds through Wednesday the 22nd, but hold onto your board. Thursday the 23rd looks like a big jump. The swell bumps up to 7ft from the east with a very long 12-second period, and the energy is strong (over 1000). The wind is light cross-shore in the morning, but that size with that period will be packing a punch. That’s expert territory, no doubt. This kind of long-period groundswell will be better breaking at reefs or points, and at a beach-and-reef setup like Bulli, it might get a bit straight and heavy.
Friday the 24th is another standout. The morning is clean with offshore NNW wind, 6ft east swell, still with that 12-second period. The energy is strong (918). That’s a beautiful, clean combo. The afternoon gets a bit windier, but the morning session should be gold.
The weekend of the 25th and 26th keeps the clean, cross-offshore winds going, with solid 5ft to 5ft east swell. The 12-second period sticks around, giving it heaps of push. Energy is still strong (850 to 628). The 26th has a glassy morning—perfect.
After that, the swell slowly fades through the 27th and 28th, with clean conditions but smaller waves. The 27th morning is still a good call with 5ft and offshore wind.
By the 29th, we’re back to small, poor, and choppy. So the run from the 20th to the 26th is where you want to be in the water. The absolute best windows are the mornings of the 20th, 24th, and 26th.
Rusty.
