Table - best surf conditions forecast for Bulli Beach over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ll be straight with you – the next week and a half at Bulli Beach is a write-off. We’ve got a long stretch of nothing but tiny, weak swell and rubbish wind. From Monday the 13th to Thursday the 16th, it’s basically flat or close to it, with the odd 0.7ft to 0.3ft slop that’s not worth paddling out for. The wind is either cross-off or cross-on, but it’s on a dead sea. The combined energy is a measly 7 or less – just pathetic. Then Friday the 17th through to Saturday the 18th, we finally see some swell bump up to 3ft to 4ft from the SSE and E, but the wind is cross-on at 6-12 mph, making it choppy and messy. The energy climbs to 103 then 187, but the quality is poor. Not a good time.
Now, the first real glimmer of hope comes on Sunday the 19th of July. The morning is looking glassy with a NNE breeze at 3 mph, and we’ll have 4ft of ENE swell, period 9 seconds. The combined energy hits 287, which is a solid moderate push. The water temp is about 65°F, which is a bit warmer than normal for this time of year – the anomaly is 1°F, so it’s noticeably mild. Bulli is a beach and reef setup, fairly consistent, and it likes a NE swell, so this ENE direction is a good match. The wind is offshore from the NW, so it’ll be clean. Crowds are sometimes a factor here, so expect a few locals out. This is the standout of the whole forecast – the best chance at a decent session.
Monday the 20th of July offers more of the same, with 5ft of ENE swell (9-10 second period) and a cross-off wind from the NNW at 6 mph in the morning. The energy is up to 314, so it’s got some grunt. The wind is offshore enough to keep it tidy, but the afternoon sees the breeze pick up to 12 mph and go more NNE, which might put a bit of bump on it. Still a solid option.
From Tuesday the 21st we start to see a slow decline. The swell holds around 4ft to 4ft, but the wind goes cross or onshore, and the energy drops. The conditions become marginal or ordinary. By Wednesday the 22nd, the swell drops to 3ft and the energy falls to 119. The morning is glassy again with a N wind at 3 mph, so it’s rideable but very average. After that, we’re into a long stretch of poor surf, with the swell barely hanging on at 1ft to 3ft and unfavourable winds through to the end of the month. The energy in the last week is mostly in the 38 to 128 range – weak to moderate. There’s nothing to get excited about.
So, in short: Sunday the 19th of July and Monday the 20th of July are your best bets. The glassy morning on Sunday, with that clean 4ft ENE swell, is the pick of the bunch. After that, it’s a slow fade into flatness. Don’t hold your breath for the second week.
Rusty.
