The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer down at Bulli Beach.
Overall, it’s a bit of a slow start. We’ve got a couple of days of junk to sit through, but there’s a tidy little window of cleaner surf early next week that’s the real standout. After that, it’s a long, flat run with nothing to get excited about for the rest of the 16-day outlook.
The water temp is sitting around average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
Saturday, July 18th is a write-off. Messy, choppy, cross-on wind with weak little 2ft to 3ft waves from the east and a short period of 7 seconds. The energy is pathetic (51 to 68), and the conditions are poor. Just stay home.
Sunday, July 19th is a bit of a tease. The swell jumps up to 7ft from the east-northeast with a solid 11-second period, and the combined energy roars to life (1133). That’s a lot of power, but it’s accompanied by a gnarly cross-on breeze. The morning is cloudy and choppy, making it a messy, lumpy affair. It’s borderline for experts only at that size, but the wind is just ruining it. The afternoon clears up but the wind shifts onshore, and the swell drops to 6ft (833 energy). It’s still marginal, and the tide might make things tricky.
Monday, July 20th is where it’s at. This is the best on offer, hands down. We’ve got a clean 6ft east-northeast swell, with a long 11-second period (672 energy). The morning is dead calm, with a light offshore breeze from the north-northwest. That’s going to groom the waves perfectly. This is a proper clean, lined-up swell for the advanced crew. The afternoon stays clean too, but the wind swings cross-off; still very surfable, but the morning is the golden window.
Tuesday, July 21st is a solid follow-up for the more experienced. The swell drops to 5ft from the east-northeast, still with a decent 10-second period (402 energy). It’s clean in the morning with a light cross-off breeze, but it’s a little smaller and less powerful. Good conditions, but the Monday morning is the real standout.
Wednesday, July 22nd and beyond is where the wheels fall off. Wednesday morning is clean but tiny, with a 3ft wave (190 energy). By the afternoon it’s a cross-on mess. From Thursday, July 23rd all the way through to Sunday, August 2nd, it’s a long, flat, and poor stretch. The swell drops to nothing, the energy is in the single digits or low double digits, and the wind is all over the place. There’s a few glassy days in there, but with no swell to speak of, you’re just looking at a flat lake. Not worth paddling out for.
So, to sum it up: waste the weekend, then get out there for the Monday, July 20th morning session at Bulli Beach. That’s your one true standout. After that, it’s a long, long gap of flatness until the end of the forecast.
Rusty.
