The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Bulli Beach over the next couple of weeks.
Right now, it’s flat as a pancake – nothing doing on Saturday 18 July, and honestly the first few days are a write-off. The water temp is sitting at about 65°F, which is pretty normal for this time of year – no weirdness there.
The first real chance of a wave shows up on Sunday 19 July, but it’s messy. Swell pushes up to 7ft from the ENE with an 11-second period, but the wind is cross-onshore and there’s a heap of energy (1133 combined energy) – but it’s not clean. Still, it’s a sign of life.
Now, Monday 20 July is where things start to look good. Morning brings clean conditions with a light offshore breeze from the NNW, swell 6ft from the ENE, period 11 seconds, and a solid 685 combined energy. This is proper groundswell – long lines, good shape. The afternoon gets a bit cross-off and windier, but still rideable.
Tuesday 21 July morning is a gem – glassy, dead calm, swell 5ft from the ENE, 10-second period, 402 energy. That’s a beautiful window for a few clean waves. Crowds are possible here – it’s a known spot – but with those conditions, worth the paddle.
Then things fade. Wednesday 22 July through to the end of the month are mostly poor – small swell, onshore winds, and the energy drops to near zero. There’s a long stretch of nothing from about Wednesday until the end of July. Honestly, not much to get excited about.
But hold on – August 1 starts with a pulse of 5ft from the SE, but it’s short period (5 seconds) and cross-onshore, so still messy. Later that afternoon a bigger 10ft ENE swell rolls in, but again wind is onshore – looks more like a kite session than a surf.
The real standout is Sunday 2 August. Morning is glassy – dead calm, zero wind – with a solid 8ft ENE swell, 10-second period, and a massive 1469 combined energy. That’s a serious groundswell, and with the right offshore (glass) it’s going to be excellent for experienced surfers. This is the one to mark on your calendar. Afternoon holds 8ft but gets a cross-onshore touch, so morning is the call.
So overall: a few good days around 20-21 July, then a long gap, then a cracker on the morning of 2 August. Keep an eye on that Sunday.
Rusty.
