The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty. Let's talk about what's on offer for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, mate, it's a tough stretch. The forecast for Bulli Beach is looking pretty grim for the entire 16-day window. We've got a few tiny windows where the conditions might be borderline, but nothing that I'd be rushing to get the wetsuit on for. The first real chance of anything surfable isn't until Wednesday morning, August 19th, but it's a long wait for not much. The energy is weak, and the quality is just not there.
The only real standout, if you can call it that, is the Wednesday morning, August 19th, session. There's a small 4ft swell from the E, with a period of just 6 seconds—that's super short, windswell stuff. The combined energy is moderate at 248, but the wind is a light NNE cross-off, which will keep the surface clean. The water temp is about average for the time of year at 64°. It's not going to be pumping, but it's the best you'll see. The rest of the morning of the 20th and 21st also have a clean look to them, but the swell is tiny at 3ft or less, and the energy is very weak, dropping to just 95 and 91. It's a longboard or a grovel board kind of week.
After that, it's a bleak run. From Friday afternoon onward, almost every session is rated as poor. The swell drops to under 3ft, the wind swings around, and we get into onshore and cross-shore junk. There's a massive gap from the 22nd of August right through to the end of the month where you'd be lucky to find a ripple. The swell energy flatlines, hitting zero on the 30th. Early September looks equally bleak, with tiny, short-period windswell and strong cross-shore winds.
This is one of those runs where the forecast is just telling you to do something else. The swell is too small and inconsistent, and the winds are rarely on our side. For the advanced crew at Bulli, it's a frustrating wait. Hopefully, things change, but for now, I wouldn't hold your breath.
Rusty.
