The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ve gotta be straight with you – this forecast window is a tough one for Bulli Beach. We’ve got a long, slow start with nothing worth paddling out for, then a brief window of hope, followed by another flat spell. Let’s break it down.
The first few days are a write-off. We’re looking at Friday the 17th through Saturday the 18th with tiny, weak swell and a cross-onshore wind that’s just messy. The water temp is sitting around 65°, which is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
Sunday the 19th sees a pulse of energy arrive, with the swell jumping to 7ft from the ENE. The combined energy hits a strong 1093, so there’s power in the water. But the period is a juicy 11 seconds, which is good for shape, but the cross-onshore wind and questionable tide have me calling it marginal. This is advanced territory at that size, and with the beach-and-reef setup, it’ll be a bit of a handful. Not the best for a relaxed session.
Now, Monday the 20th is where it gets interesting. Early morning, we’ve got 6ft of ENE groundswell with a clean 11-second period, and a light NNW cross-offshore wind. That’s a solid combo. The combined energy is still a strong 672. This is the standout of the whole outlook. The northwest wind will groom the faces nicely, and the swell direction is a good match for the break’s optimum from the NE. It’ll be clean, powerful, and with a bit of size. The afternoon sees the wind swing NE and pick up to 12 mph, so get in early.
Tuesday the 21st is another gem. We’re looking at 5ft of ENE swell with a 10-second period, and the morning is glassy – zero wind. That’s a major positive. The combined energy is a solid 436. This is the second best window. The afternoon stays glassy with a light ESE breeze. It’ll be a beautiful day for a paddle.
After that, the swell steadily drops. Wednesday the 22nd is clean but smaller at 4ft, and by Thursday the 23rd we’re down to 3ft. The rest of the window from Friday the 24th onwards is largely flat, with only tiny, unrideable waves. There’s a gap of several days with no real surf on offer.
So, to sum it up: the best bet is Monday morning, the 20th, with the 6ft ENE swell and that lovely cross-offshore wind. Tuesday the 21st is also a cracker. After that, the window closes up. Don’t bother with the rest.
Rusty.
