The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's talk about what's cooking at Bird Shit.
Right off the bat, the water is 74.8° which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, a real bonus. But honestly, the surf story is a tough one. For the first week, we're dealing with small, weak swell and mostly cross-onshore or onshore winds. There's a lot of poor conditions and marginal surf in the mix, so you'll be hunting hard for a wave.
The first bit of genuine hope doesn't show up until the end of the first week. Friday, the 4th of September morning has a 3.3ft SW groundswell with a 17-second period from the optimum W direction, and the combined energy is moderate (664). The wind is a light cross-onshore from the SW at 6 mph, so it'll be a little rippled but workable. That's your one real standout in the early part.
Now, the true highlight comes on Monday, the 7th of September morning. There's a 11.5ft SSW swell rolling in with a 12-second period and massive energy (4065). The wind is light from the NW offshore at 6 mph, making for glassy clean conditions. This is a powerful, ground-swell event, but fair warning: at 11.5ft, this is strictly for experts only. The break is a consistent, exposed reef, and with that height and period, it's going to be a heavy, grinding wall. Crowds are likely here, and for good reason.
After that big pulse, the size drops away quickly. The rest of the second week is all small stuff, under 3ft, with a persistent cross-onshore flow and poor conditions. Not worth getting excited about.
