The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this outlook for Aldinga Beach is a tough one. We’re looking at a 16-day window that’s pretty much a write-off for any decent wave riding. The consistent theme is "poor surf conditions" across the board, and the numbers back that up.
First up, we’ve got a gap of several days with nothing worth paddling out for. The first real bit of swell energy we see doesn't bring any quality. Expect a long stretch of flat or near-flat conditions.
There’s a small pulse on the morning of Wednesday the 22nd of July, with a swell height of 3 ft coming from the WSW, but the period is a short 4 seconds – that’s windswell junk. The wind is onshore and strong at 16 mph, making it a complete mess. The combined energy is a weak 28 (moderate), so there’s just no power behind it. This is not a surfer’s wave; with that onshore wind and short period, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
The only notable event in the whole run is on Tuesday the 28th of July, around the afternoon. The swell jumps up to 7 ft out of the NW, with a combined energy of 315 (strong to very strong wave energy). But the period is still a short 6 seconds, and the wind is a cross-onshore at 16 mph. That’s a big, choppy, and blown-out mess. At over 8 ft, that’s expert-only territory anyway, but with the poor wind and short period, it’s not a standout for anyone.
The rest of the window is a mix of tiny waves (0.3 ft to 3 ft), weak energy (mostly under 20), and cross-offshore or onshore winds. There are a couple of glassy moments on the morning of the 26th of July and the morning of the 31st of July, but with swell heights of 0.7 ft and 1 ft respectively, there’s just nothing to ride. The water temperature is about average for the time of year at 58°F (anomaly of -0.9°F), but that won't make up for the lack of surf.
Honestly, there’s no standout. No best on offer. If you’re desperate, the morning of Thursday the 30th of July has a 3 ft SW swell, but with a 5-second period and light cross-shore wind, it’ll be weak and crumbly. It’s not worth the drive.
Keep your board in the car, but the wax on the shelf. Forecasts can change, but this one’s looking bleak.
Rusty.
