The Lowdown
Alright, folks, it's Rusty here, and I've got to be straight with you – this 16-day window for Aldinga Beach is a real bust. There's not a single session worth paddling out for. The guidance tells me this spot is already an inconsistent, beginner-friendly sandbank, and the forecast just confirms it's gonna be a long, flat stretch. Don't get your hopes up; this sort of blank run is pretty normal for the area, so it's not a huge shock.
Let's walk through it. Starting Sunday the 19th we've got a pathetic 0.3ft of swell from the SW, with a long period of 12 seconds but the energy is tiny (6) and the wind is cross-off, but it's just too small to do anything. Monday and Tuesday the 20th and 21st stay similarly tiny – 0.3ft to 0.7ft, light breeze, but the combined energy barely hits double digits (13, 16). Wednesday the 22nd brings a spike to 3ft, but it's a horrible short-period 5-second windswell from the WSW, onshore wind at 12 mph, and the energy is still weak (32). That's a complete mess. Thursday and Friday the 23rd and 24th are even smaller, with cross-on wind and chop. Saturday the 25th offers a moment of glassy conditions in the afternoon, but the swell is just 0.7ft with a 7-second period and energy of 5 – you'd need a toy board.
Then Sunday the 26th is flat in the morning, and the afternoon has a 2.3ft windswell but with a strong cross-shore wind. Monday the 27th is the biggest day of the run – 6.6ft in the morning, 6.9ft in the afternoon, both from the WSW with a short period (7 seconds). The combined energy jumps to 366 and 374, which is moderate wave energy, but the wind is howling at 25 mph – cross-off in the morning, cross-on and messy in the afternoon. That's way too big for beginners, and with that wind it's unsurfable for anyone. Honestly, it looks more like a kite-surfing setup than a paddle session. After that, Tuesday the 28th through to the end of the period on Monday the 3rd of August is a slow fade – tiny swell, often flat, with occasional light winds but no real push.
