The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this stretch of coast is looking pretty grim for the next couple of weeks. I’ve scanned the charts and honestly, there’s not a single session where the stars align. We’ve got a long, dry spell ahead.
The main issue is a lack of any decent swell energy. Most days, the combined energy of all swells directed here is sitting at weak, pathetic numbers, often well under 100, with many readings in the teens or even single digits. Even when we do see a bump, the wind is usually wrong or the swell is too short-period to hold any shape. For a spot that’s fairly exposed to the swell, this is a major disappointment.
Let’s run through the entire 16-day window. It basically starts with nothing and stays that way. Friday the 21st sees a weak 2 ft swell from the west with a period of just 4 seconds and a light onshore breeze – total mush. Saturday and Sunday the 22nd and 23rd are even worse, with swell heights dropping to 0.3 ft to 0.7 ft. The wind does go clean or cross-off briefly on Sunday and Monday mornings, but with virtually no wave energy, it’s just a flat, glassy lake. The combined energy Sunday morning is a measly 7, and Monday morning is 4.
Midweek, Tuesday the 25th kicks up a bit of windswell to 3 ft from the southwest, but a fresh SSE and S wind at 18 to 16 mph will chop it to pieces. That’s more of a kite day than a surf day. The rest of the week and into the next are a monotonous run of tiny, poor-quality swells with onshore or cross-shore winds. The water temperature doesn’t really matter here because you won’t be getting wet.
We finally see a bit of a pulse on the 1st of September, with a 4 ft swell from the WSW and a 6-second period, and the combined energy climbs to a moderate 119. But the wind is onshore from the WSW, so it’s going to be a messy, blown-out 4 ft. That’s the best we get, and it’s still rated as poor.
After that, we slide back into the doldrums. The 4th of September has a long-period 18-second swell from the SW, but the height is a pathetic 0.3 ft – just a clean, flat ocean. The 5th of September shows a 4 ft WSW swell, but with a light cross-shore and a 5-second period, it’s not going to offer anything rideable.
For a break that’s often crowded, at least you won’t have to fight for a wave because there won’t be any. This is one of those stretches where you’re better off tuning the boards or taking up a land-based hobby. Forecasts can always change, but right now, the outlook is a complete blank until at least the end of the first week of September. Keep an eye on it, but I wouldn’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
