The Lowdown

Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at the outlook for Zushi Marina.

To be straight with you, the next 16 days are looking pretty grim for a proper paddle session. We’ve got a long stretch of small, weak swell and mostly onshore wind. The combined wave energy is weak for most of the period, barely cracking 100 (77) on the Tuesday morning, and it’s a similar story for days after. There’s a big gap of poor surf conditions stretching from the start right through until the very end of the period.

Honestly, the only time we see a real spike in energy comes around the 26th of August, where the combined energy jumps up to 437 and then 661, but that’s accompanied by a strong onshore breeze. The wave height is only hitting 3 ft, but with that much wind, it’s going to be a choppy, messy mess. For a beach/jetty setup like this, that’s more of a kite-surfing wind than a clean surf day.

The water temp is sitting around 82°, which is about normal for this time of year.

If you’re desperate for a paddle, the morning of Saturday the 16th of August has a moment of glassy conditions with a 1 ft SSW swell. It’s tiny, and the energy is weak (65), but it’s the cleanest window we get. The morning of Wednesday the 19th also has glassy conditions, but the swell is even smaller at 1.0 ft from the SE. The morning of Sunday the 23rd is glassy again, but with a 1 ft SSW swell. These are all just "surfable but very ordinary" conditions.

For the rest of the run, we’re looking at onshore winds and tiny surf. The 25th of August brings a very long-period groundswell from the S at 16 seconds, but with a strong onshore breeze and only 1.0 ft to 2 ft of swell, it’s not going to do anything for us.

Plain and simple: there’s no standout day here. This is a patch where you’re better off waiting for the next forecast to change.

Rusty.
