Wainui Beach - Whales Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, this is Rusty comin' at ya with a look at what's on the cards for the next couple of weeks.

First up, we've got one spot that's got my attention: Wainui Beach - Whales. This is a serious, advanced beach and reef setup, and it's a very consistent wave, so when it's on, it's on. The water temp is sitting at 56°, which is about 1° cooler than normal for this time of year, so it's a bit nippy but nothing too wild.

The real action kicks off on Saturday morning (August 8th). We've got a clean 4 ft swell from the SSE, with a long 12-second period, and a light NW cross-offshore breeze. That's a beautiful combo. The combined swell energy is moderate at 866, so there's some push behind it. This is the standout window of the whole forecast. The wind is going to keep it clean, and that long period means real groundswell lines. Be aware, this spot can get crowded at times, so get in early.

Now, we have to be patient after that. Sunday morning (August 9th) sees the swell drop to 3 ft from the SE, still with a light offshore wind, so it's clean but a lot smaller. Monday (August 10th) is tiny, with 2 ft swell and very weak energy (97), but it goes glassy in the afternoon, so it's a tranquility session if anything.

Tuesday morning (August 11th) brings a pulse of 6 ft from the SSW, but it's a short 8-second period, so it's not going to have the same grunt. The energy is moderate (611), and the wind is light and cross-off, so it'll be rideable, but not as good as Saturday.

There's a bit of a lull mid-week with onshore winds and rain, and then on Friday morning (August 14th), we get a 5 ft swell from the NE, but it's a 6-second period—that's just windswell, and it'll be a bit messy.

The following Saturday (August 15th) afternoon is a write-off as a 8 ft SSW swell gets an onshore wind, making it choppy. Sunday (August 16th) is also a miss with onshore winds.

Then things get heavy. Monday morning (August 17th) sees a massive 15 ft S swell rolling in with 11-second period and combined energy of 6128. That's expert territory only, and likely too big for this break. The rest of that week is a washout with strong cross-onshore winds blowing through massive swells. For the second week, the pattern is stubbornly poor.

Finally, on Sunday morning (August 23rd) , we see a glimmer of hope. A 5 ft S swell with a 10-second period and a light WSW cross-offshore wind. The combined energy is moderate (730). This is a promising recovery, but it's a long way out, so treat it with cautious optimism.

So, to sum it up: don't overthink this. The one true standout is Saturday morning (August 8th). After that, there's a lot of waiting, a lot of wind, and a few big swells that are just too gnarly for this spot. The second week is a gamble, but the 23rd could be a redemption session.
