Table - best surf conditions forecast for Thirroul over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s in store for Thirroul over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, we’re starting off with a pretty flat spell. There’s a lot of nothing on offer for the first week, with barely a wave to get excited about. The first few days are a write-off, with tiny swell and no energy. We’re looking at a gap of several days with no real recommendation until Wednesday the 15th.
That Wednesday the 15th brings a bit of a pulse, with swell building to about 6ft from the S, but the period is a short 10 seconds and there is moderate wave energy (550). It’s a beach and reef setup and the wind is cross-shore, so it’s not ideal. This is more for the keen ones who don’t mind a bit of chop. The swell drops a little through the afternoon and the cross-on wind kills it. Not a standout.
Thursday the 16th holds similar size, around 6ft from the S again, but the period is still short at 8 seconds and the energy is strong (660). Winds are cross-shore and a bit stronger, so expect some cross-chop. This is really for experienced surfers only, as it’s a bit of a washing machine. Beginners should stay out.
Friday the 17th and the weekend fade out quickly. Swell drops below 3ft, periods get short and weak, and winds are not helpful. Not worth paddling out for.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. After a long quiet run, Monday the 20th finally shows some promise. The swell is a modest 4ft from the ENE, with a period of 9 seconds and moderate energy (282). The wind is light cross-offshore from the NNW, keeping the surface clean. This is the pick of the first week. The break can be inconsistent, but when it lines up, there’ll be some fun little runners. Expect it to be a bit crowded though, as it’s sometimes busy.
Looking further ahead to Sunday the 26th, we’ve got another little window. Swell is a touch smaller at 3ft from the E, but the period stretches out to 12 seconds – that’s groundswell energy and it shows in the energy reading (201). The wind goes glassy in the morning, which is rare and very welcome. This is a solid option for a clean, mellow session, especially if you’re after some long walls. The longer period means better shaped waves and longer lulls between sets, making it easier to get out the back. Keep an eye on this one, but it’s still a way off so don’t hold your breath.
Overall, if you’re looking for the true standout, it’s Monday the 20th. The conditions are clean, the swell is rideable, and the energy is there. The Sunday the 26th is a close second for the glassy morning, but it’s smaller and more dependent on the longer period working at a beach break.
Rusty out.
