Table - best surf conditions forecast for Thirroul over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
First thing, the water temp is sitting at 65°, which is a touch above average for this time of year – nothing wild, but you'll notice it's a bit more comfortable than usual.
Honestly, it's a slow start. We're looking at a solid gap of a few days with nothing worth paddling out for. The waves are tiny, the energy is weak, and while the wind is offshore, it's just not enough to get excited about. You're better off waiting it out.
The first real chance of something decent rolls in on Wednesday the 15th. Thirroul is gonna jump from flat to a solid 8ft of southerly swell, but it comes with a short period of 8 seconds. The wind is cross-shore, creating a bit of chop, and with that much juice and a short period, it's going to be a bit of a mess. The combined energy is a beefy 1561, but the conditions are marginal. This one's for the experts only, and even then, it's a gamble.
Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th are still messy with onshore winds and dropping swell. It's not great.
Saturday the 18th stays marginal, but the energy is dropping. Sunday the 19th sees a new pulse of 7ft easterly swell at 11 seconds, but it's onshore. The energy is strong at 1284, but it's not clean.
Now, here's the standout. The best window is Monday the 20th through to Wednesday the 23rd. Monday morning the 20th is the pick of the bunch. Thirroul gets a clean 7ft easterly swell at 11 seconds, with a light cross-offshore breeze from the NNW. The combined energy is strong at 1123, and it’s described as excellent surf for experienced surfers. This is a proper groundswell with a good period, and the wind is clean. It's going to be a big day.
Tuesday the 21st is also a treat. The morning is a clean 6ft east swell, but the afternoon is where it gets interesting. Glassy conditions with the wind dropping to nothing, and that same east swell at 11 seconds. Perfect. The energy is still strong at 815.
Wednesday the 22nd morning holds another excellent session with 5ft of east swell, but the period stretches to 13 seconds. That's a long-period groundswell, which means it'll have real power but might be a bit straight at the beach. Thirroul is a beach and reef setup, so it should handle it well. The energy is high at 1355.
After that, Thursday the 23rd keeps the swell going with a solid 8ft southerly swell, clean and cross-offshore. This is another big one. The energy is huge at 2124, but it's a short period of 9 seconds, so it'll be punchy. Crowds are listed as "sometimes" for Thirroul, so expect a few locals out, especially on these good days.
The following days into the start of the next week, the 24th to the 26th, still have fun waves in the 5ft to 6ft range with offshore winds, so the run of good surf looks like it's going to stick around. The 27th, the swell starts to fade back down.
So, to sum it up: the first few days are a write-off. The best, most reliable surf is from Monday the 20th through to Wednesday the 23rd. Get out there for that glassy Tuesday afternoon if you can.
Rusty.
