Table - best surf conditions forecast for Thirroul over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s break it down. Thirroul’s the only spot in the forecast, and it’s a real mixed bag over the next couple of weeks. The water temp is about 65°F, which is pretty normal for this time of year—no big anomaly.
First few days are skinny. Sunday the 12th has some small swell—2ft from the ESE, period of 10 seconds, but the combined energy is only 93, so it’s weak. The wind is offshore and clean, so it’s surfable, but nothing to write home about. Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th are dead—tiny waves under 1ft, barely any energy, poor surf. A real lull.
Then Wednesday the 15th morning hits hard: 8ft from the S, period of 9 seconds, combined energy of 1807—that’s strong wave energy. But the wind is cross-shore, and it’s described as marginal with questionable tide. That’s a lot of power but messy. Probably more interesting for the kite crowd than paddle surfing. The afternoon drops to 7ft, still cross-shore, still messy.
Thursday the 16th is a write-off—strong cross-shore winds at 25 km/h, bumpy, poor conditions. Friday the 17th morning offers a bit of hope: 5ft from the E, period 9 seconds, clean cross-off wind, and energy is moderate at 353. It’s okay, but not a standout. The afternoon turns onshore and choppy.
Saturday the 18th is marginal at best.
Now, here’s the standout. Sunday the 19th morning: glassy conditions, 7ft from the ENE, period of 11 seconds, combined energy of 1240. That’s a strong, long-period groundswell, glassy wind, and the forecast says “excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers.” This is the best session in the whole 16-day window. The swell direction is ENE, and the optimum for Thirroul is SE, so it’s a bit off, but with that size and clean glass, it’ll still push through. At 7ft, it’s too big for beginners, but for experienced surfers, it’s the pick of the run. The long period (11 seconds) means good shape and energy, but at a beach-and-reef setup, it might not be perfect—still, with glassy conditions, it’s a session worth chasing.
Monday the 20th morning is still decent: 6ft from the ENE, 11 seconds, clean cross-off wind, but energy is a step down at 776. Good, not great.
After that, the surf fades. Tuesday the 21st through Wednesday the 22nd drops to 4ft or less, with cross-shore and onshore winds. Thursday the 23rd morning has a brief clean window with 3ft, but it’s weak. Friday the 24th sees a bump in period to 11 seconds from the S, 5ft, but the wind is cross-shore and energy is moderate at 575. It’s marginal.
The final weekend—Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th—is poor: small, onshore, choppy. Monday the 27th morning has a glassy moment with 2ft, but it’s barely surfable.
So, if you’re looking for the one true standout, lock in Sunday the 19th morning. It’s the biggest, cleanest, and most powerful session in the whole outlook. The rest of the window is mostly small, messy, or weak, with a few decent but not excellent moments.
Rusty.
