Imperial Version
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming down the line for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, it’s a bit of a rough start at Thirroul. We’ve got a decent amount of swell pushing in – up to 10ft on Sunday arvo – but the wind is just a disaster. It’s cross and cross-onshore with a heavy chop, and the wave quality is shot. Honestly, from Sunday through to Tuesday, you’re looking at a pretty grim scene. The energy is there (over 2600 in the tank at one point), but it’s wasted. Swell direction is out of the S to SSE, coming in at 10-12 seconds, so it’s got a bit of grunt, but the wind just kills it. Water temp is sitting near average for this time of year, nothing to write home about.
We hit a wall of small, clean nothingness from around the 12th to the 13th. The swell drops right off to 1-2ft, so you can leave the boards in the shed for that stretch. A few days of flat, sunny, but empty water.
Now, things start to look up mid-month. Thursday the 16th afternoon is a real standout. Thirroul cleans right up with glassy conditions, a solid 5ft of S swell at 10 seconds, and the combined energy hits 1044 – a clean, powerful little pulse. That’s the best wave of the whole run, no question. For the experienced crew, that’s a proper session. The SW wind is light, and it’s glassy.
Then onto the following Monday, the 20th of July. We get another bright spot. Gentle offshore winds from the W with a 5ft S swell at 10 seconds, and energy at 504. That’s a really clean, well-shaped day. The swell direction (S) matches what this spot likes, and with the wind so clean, it’ll be a treat.
The second week also has a few smaller, cleaner mornings with offshores around the 18th and 19th, but the swell is only 3-4ft, so it’s more of a longboard or foamie sort of day. Nothing wrong with that, just not the highlight.
So to sum it up: the first week is a write-off thanks to wind. The real gem is Thursday the 16th arvo, with Monday the 20th morning running a close second. Get out there for those.
Rusty.
