Table - best surf conditions forecast for Thirroul over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here, and I’ve gotta be straight with you – the next couple of weeks at Thirroul are a bit of a mixed bag. We’ve got some solid energy rolling in at times, but the wind’s gonna be a real pest more often than not. Let’s break it down day by day.
First up, Wednesday the 8th of July afternoon sees a proper 7 ft swell from the southeast, but that southerly wind at 12 mph is blowin’ cross-shore, so it’s gonna be a bit of a chop-fest. The combined energy is strong (1290), but it’s a marginal look with that cross-chop. Not the one to get excited about.
Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th are pretty average. We’ve got 5 ft of SE swell hanging around, but the wind keeps swingin’ cross or cross-on, mostly from the south. The energy drops off – 721 on Thursday morning down to 474 Friday afternoon – and it’s all just marginal. Nothing worth paddlin’ out for.
Now, Saturday the 11th of July – that’s the standout window in this whole run. Mornin’ brings a little 3 ft SE swell with a glassy northwest breeze, clean as a whistle. The energy is low at 265, but that offshore wind is gonna make it feel like a million bucks. By the arvo, the swell drops to 2 ft from the ESE with a light northerly cross-off breeze, still pristine. It’s small, sure, but for a clean session on the high tide, this is your best bet all week. The water temp is sittin’ about 65°, which is dead average for this time of year – no surprises there.
Sunday the 12th is a write-off. The swell fades to 2 ft, and that west wind picks up to 16 mph, blowin’ cross-off. Energy’s barely a whisper (104), and it’s just poor. That theme continues right through to Tuesday the 14th – tiny, clean but pitifully small. Not worth your time.
Wednesday the 15th of July has a flicker of hope, with 3 ft of S swell and a light offshore northwesterly in the mornin’, but the energy is weak (162) and the wave comment says “surfable but very ordinary.” By the arvo, it jumps up to 8 ft from the south but with a short period of 7 seconds and a cross-on breeze – that’s gonna be messy.
Thursday the 16th is a dirty day. We get a 10 ft SSE swell, but it’s got a gale-force SE wind at 19–25 mph, rain and even a risk of thunderstorms. The energy is high (974), but it’s onshore, lumpy, and only for the hardcore. Over 8 ft and blown out – park your board.
Friday the 17th through Sunday the 19th stays poor. The swell hangs around 4 ft to 8 ft, but it’s all cross-on or onshore, with rain showers and moderate to fresh breezes. The energy bounces between 487 and 1229, but the quality is just not there. This stretch is more about kites than paddle boards, honestly.
Monday the 20th is still marginal with 6 ft of SE swell and a light onshore breeze, nothing to write home about.
Then, finally, Tuesday the 21st of July – another decent little window. Mornin’ has a clean 5 ft SE swell with a glassy northwest offshore breeze, and combined energy is 471. That’s rideable and clean, even if it’s not huge. By the arvo it drops a touch, but the NNE cross-shore wind makes it a little lumpy.
Wednesday the 22nd and Thursday the 23rd are small but clean again – 2 ft to 3 ft of ESE swell with light offshore or cross-off breezes. Energy is low (201–227), but if you’re itch-in’ for a longboard or a foily, it’ll be glassy and fun.
So to sum it up: the real standout is Saturday morning the 11th of July – small but perfectly clean offshore conditions on that 3 ft SE swell. And keep an eye on Tuesday the 21st of July mornin' as a solid backup. The rest is either too windy, too small, or too messy. Hang in there, mate – the pattern’s got a couple of good moments buried in it.
Rusty.
