Alright, let's talk surf. The period kicks off kind of quiet, but there's plenty to look at.
Saturday July 4th we start small at Thirroul (beach and reef). There’s a clean 3ft south swell running, period 12 seconds, combined energy 235 – that’s weak energy. A light cross-offshore breeze in the morning is keeping it tidy. Water's about 66°, a touch warmer than usual for winter. Get out early because that afternoon the wind turns onshore and the swell drops. Saturday morning is your only real chance on day one.
Sunday July 5th the swell jumps to 8ft from the south, period 11 seconds, combined energy hits 1537 – moderate energy now. But the wind is blowing cross-shore at 15 mph, so it’s gonna be choppy and tough. Monday and Tuesday stay in the 7-8ft range, but wind stays messy, so it's more of a battle than a pleasure.
Now look at Saturday July 11th. Morning brings a clean 5ft south-southeast swell, period 10 seconds, light cross-offshore wind, combined energy 378. That afternoon? Glassy. Wind goes near flat calm, swell drops to 4ft. That Saturday afternoon session is the real highlight of the first week – clean, easy, and fun. No crowds mentioned, but spots like this can get a few people.
Sunday July 12th drops to 3ft with a light offshore, combined energy only 142 – weak. Monday July 13th is tiny, just over 1ft with offshore wind. Pretty flat through there.
Tuesday July 14th the ocean wakes up again – 10ft from the south, period 9 seconds, combined energy 1367, cross-offshore wind and clean. That’s expert-level size. Wednesday July 15th stays around 10ft with similar conditions, but short period means lumpy.
Heading into the second week: Saturday July 18th brings 8ft southeast swell, 11-second period, combined energy 1659. That afternoon it goes 12ft from the south-southeast, 11-second period, combined energy 5476 – that’s strong to very strong wave energy. Big, powerful, experts only. Then Sunday July 19th morning is the absolute standout of the entire outlook. Glassy conditions, 10ft south-southeast swell, 10-second period, combined energy 3573. That is clean, powerful, and will be excellent for experienced surfers. The long period and strong energy mean big sets with plenty of push, perfect for a reef break like Thirroul.
Best bets: Saturday July 11th afternoon for clean small waves, and Sunday July 19th morning for a big glassy session if you've got the skills. There’s a small flat spell around July 12th-13th, but it doesn’t last long.
