Table - best surf conditions forecast for Thirroul over the next 16 days.
G’day, this is Rusty. Alright, let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Thirroul over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, we’ve got a bit of a messy start. Wednesday the 8th is showing some solid swell around 8ft from the southeast, but it’s coming with a cross-shore breeze and a messy cross-chop. The wave energy is strong (1417), but for a beach and reef setup like this, it’s not doing us any favours. The water’s sitting at 65°, which is pretty average for this time of year, so nothing wild there.
Thursday the 9th drops to 5ft swell, but still with a cross breeze and only marginal conditions—nothing to get excited about. Friday morning the 10th is where we finally get a window: glassy conditions with a 5ft swell from the southeast, period around 9 seconds. The energy is moderate (363), but the glassy surface makes it clean and inviting. That’s one of the better windows early on.
Saturday the 11th brings a real treat. Morning sees lighter 3ft swell with offshore wind from the northwest—clean as a whistle. The swell’s period is a bit short at 8 seconds, but the offshore wind will tidy it up. Afternoon drops to 2ft but with a longer period of 11 seconds from the east-southeast, and cross-off winds keeping it clean. That late session Saturday is the standout for the first week. The wave energy is mild (229), but the conditions make up for it.
After that, we hit a long flat spell. From Sunday the 12th through to Wednesday the 15th, the swell drops to barely 2ft and then to 1ft—hardly worth paddling out. The winds are offshore but the lack of size makes it a no-go. There’s a gap of about four days with no real surf.
Now, looking further ahead, Thursday the 16th kicks off with a big pulse: 10ft from the south-southeast, but the wind is a fresh cross-shore with lumpy chop—pretty ugly. That’s more size than fun. Friday the 17th is still messy, with 6ft swell and strong cross winds.
Here’s where it gets interesting. Sunday the 19th is shaping up as a ripper. Light winds from the west, clean conditions, and a 6ft swell from the east-southeast. The wave energy is solid (800), and the clean faces will make for some good lines. But the real prize is Monday the 20th. Morning shows a 8ft southeast swell with a period of 11 seconds, light offshore wind from the northwest, and conditions described as excellent for experienced surfers. That’s a proper groundswell, and at 8ft it’s pushing into expert territory—plenty of power (1328 combined energy). That Monday morning is the absolute best on offer.
Tuesday the 21st holds size at 8ft from the east with a long 12-second period, but the wind swings cross-off and freshens up, making it less clean. Wednesday the 22nd drops to 6ft, still with decent period, but the south wind gets strong. Thursday the 23rd throws a huge 10ft to 12ft southeast swell with a very long 12-13 second period, but it’s cross-on and choppy—maybe one for the tow-in crew, not a paddler’s dream.
Overall, keep your eyes on Saturday the 11th afternoon for a clean small-wave session, and lock in Monday the 20th morning for the standout—big, clean, and powerful, but only for those who know what they’re doing.
Rusty.
