The Lowdown
The first thing that’s worth getting a little excited about is Monday afternoon on the 20th. We’ve got an ENE swell pushing 1.4m, with a 10-second period—decent energy for a beach and reef setup. The combined swell energy is at a moderate 487. The real kicker here is the wind: glassy. SW at 5 km/h, making for some absolutely clean, smooth waves. This is a standout window. It’s not huge, but for the quality on offer, it’ll be the best surf of the first half of the forecast. Keep in mind, crowds are “sometimes” a thing here, so you might have a few friends out.
Then Tuesday morning on the 21st is worth a paddle too. Light NNW winds at 10 km/h, which is cross-offshore, keeping things clean. Swell stays similar—1.2m from the ENE, period at 10 seconds, energy at 298. It’s still moderate but tidy.
We get another clean shot on Wednesday morning the 22nd. Same story: light NNW at 5 km/h, cross-off, holding swell at 1.1m from the ENE. The energy drops a touch to 265, but it’s still surfable and clean.
Now, heading into the second weekend, things get a bit more interesting but also more raw. On Thursday the 23rd, we see a bump in period to 11 seconds, and swell lifts to 1.6m from the E, with energy around 634. That’s moderate-strong. Problem is, winds are onshore and light from the S, so the surf will be a bit bumpy. It’s marginal.
By Friday the 24th, the swell holds at 1.6m from the E, period jumping to 12 seconds—a longer period groundswell. Energy stays strong around 698. Wind is cross-shore from the SSW at 25 km/h, which puts a good cross-chop on it. That setup is gonna be more interesting for the kitesurfers than for a clean paddle session.
Saturday the 25th is a write-off for surf. Rain, strong onshore winds from the ESE and SE pushing 30 km/h, swell at 2-1.6m but messy and lumpy. Energy up at 648-748, but you won’t want to be out there on a surfboard.
The real gem of the whole outlook shows up later. Tuesday the 28th is a standout. Morning sees a NW wind at 15 km/h, cross-offshore, clean as a whistle. Swell is 1.1m from the E, with a long 13-second period—that’s quality groundswell. Energy is 442. It’ll have shape and push, perfect for the reef section. And in the afternoon, it gets even cleaner with a light NNW at 10 km/h, cross-off still, energy up to 476. This is the pick of the whole 16 days for a surfer who wants clean, lined-up waves.
Wednesday the 29th also has clean conditions: WNW offshore wind at 10 km/h in the morning, swell dropping a bit to 0.9m from the E, but still a long 12-second period. Energy at 367. It’s small but perfect for a log or a fun twinny.
Overall, this forecast is a slow starter with a few clean windows mid-period, and a solid finish at the end of the month. The best options are Monday afternoon for the glass, and Tuesday the 28th for the combination of size, period, and clean offshore wind. Don’t waste your time in the first week.
