Table - best surf conditions forecast for Thirroul over the next 16 days.
Righto, let’s have a look at what’s on offer for the next couple of weeks. Honestly, it’s a pretty quiet start. We’ve got a few days of flat to tiny dribble, nothing worth paddling out for until the middle of the week.
The first real chance to get wet comes Wednesday, July 15. Thirroul picks up a south swell pushing 7ft, with an 11-second period that’s got some decent energy behind it (combined energy at 1518). That’s a proper groundswell, and with the swell direction from the south, it’s a good match for the break’s ideal SE direction. But the wind is light, cross-shore in the morning, and that’s about the best we’ll see. The afternoon sees the wind shifting cross-onshore, and the swell drops a bit, so the morning session is the one to aim for. That 7ft is heading into the “too big for beginners” range, but for intermediates, it’s a fun, punchy wave. The water temp is sitting at 65°F, which is about 1°F above normal for this time of year—nothing unusual, just a touch warmer than average.
Moving into Thursday, July 16, the swell is still around 6ft but the period drops to 8 seconds, and the wind goes cross-shore with a moderate breeze. It’s going to be a bit messy, with a cross-chop building. This is more of a challenge for paddle surfing, and honestly, with the combined energy still at 798, it might be more interesting for the kite crew than for a clean wave.
Friday, July 17, is a write-off—swell is down, period is short, and the wind is onshore. The weekend isn’t much better, with weak, short-period energy and onshore winds.
The standout window arrives on Sunday, July 19, and Monday, July 20. Sunday morning, Thirroul has glassy, clean conditions with a light NE breeze, swell from the east at 4ft and a 9-second period. The combined energy is 298, which is moderate but the glassy wind makes it look like a dream. Monday morning, July 20, offers a similar 4ft east-northeast swell with a 9-second period, light cross-offshore wind from the NNW, and clean conditions (combined energy 324). That’s the pick of the week—small but clean, fun little waves for a longboard or a minimal.
After that, the second week starts to fade. Tuesday, July 21, morning has a clean 4ft ENE swell, but the energy drops. From Wednesday, July 22, through to the end of the month, waves are tiny—2ft to 3ft—with occasional glassy moments but no real power. The best of those days is Wednesday, July 22, morning, with total glass and a 3ft ENE swell, but it’s only for the patient soul on a foamie.
Overall, the goods are in the middle of the first week and the start of the second. The standouts are Wednesday, July 15, morning for the bigger, punchy south swell, and Sunday, July 19, morning for the glassy, clean small waves. The rest is marginal, so keep an eye on the charts—it tends not to stay this flat for too long.
