Alright, let's break this down in feet and miles per hour.
We’ve got a couple of weeks ahead that are going to throw a bit of everything at us. Starting Monday, July 6th, Thirroul is dealing with a solid 8-foot SSE swell, but a south wind at 15 mph is putting it cross-onshore, making it choppy and bumpy. That combined energy is 1321, so there’s a lot of water moving, but it’s not clean. More of a battle than a glide.
Tuesday the 7th, the swell pushes up to 10 feet from the SSE, still with a cross-shore wind from the SSW at 12 mph. The energy jumps way up to 3723 in the morning. This is big, messy, and for experts only. The 10-second period keeps it a bit lumpy.
Wednesday the 8th is still big with 8-foot SE swell, but the cross-shore wind sticks around, so it stays chopped up. Energy is still high at 1468. Thursday the 9th drops to 6-foot from the SE, but the wind is still not helping. Still marginal.
Then we get a little window of relief on Friday the 10th. The swell is down to 5 feet from the SE, and in the afternoon, the wind dies to practically nothing. It turns glassy. The energy is only 439, so the waves are weaker, but they’ll be smooth. Good for a funboard or longboard.
Saturday the 11th morning is the real highlight of the first week. The wind goes offshore from the WNW at just 3 mph, and that 4-foot SE swell cleans right up. It’s small, but with the energy at 353, it’s the cleanest wave of the stretch. This break can get a crowd sometimes, but this is the session to chase.
After that, the surf drops into a flat spell from Sunday through Monday and into Tuesday the 14th, where a weak 3-foot SSW windswell with a lousy 5-second period pops up. Not worth it.
Now, look ahead to Wednesday, July 15th. That morning shows a 7-foot S swell with an 11-second period and a light offshore wind from the SW at 9 mph. The energy is 1010, and the conditions are described as excellent for experienced surfers. That’s a solid morning but it will get blown out by afternoon as the wind swings onshore.
Thursday the 16th is back to 10-foot S swell, but messy with a cross-shore wind. Only for the hardcore.
The biggest standout in the whole outlook might be Saturday, July 18th. We get an offshore breeze from the NW at just 3 mph in the morning, with a 6-foot SE swell and an 11-second period. The energy is 866. This is the kind of morning where Thirroul’s reef points can offer really clean, long-running lines. It’s a long-range call, so it’s promising but not guaranteed.
Sunday the 19th morning has a small 4-foot SE swell with a light offshore component, but nothing special. Then the surf goes flat again until Tuesday the 21st, when a huge 15-foot S swell shows up. That’s massive, with the energy at 3629. The wind is cross-offshore, so it could be clean, but that size is for experts only.
Water temp is about average for the time of year.
Bottom line: Friday afternoon the 10th for a glassy small-wave session, Saturday morning the 11th for the best clean offshore conditions in the first week, and then circle Saturday morning July 18th as the real promising standout for good, clean, fun-sized waves.
