Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table for The Harbour over the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you—this is a lean stretch. The data’s showing a lot of flat spells and poor conditions, so we're going to have to pick our moments carefully.
Looking at the whole picture, there's no big swell to get excited about. The wave energy is non-existent most days, with the biggest reading coming in at a measly combined energy of just 12. The water temp is sitting around 54°, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, nothing unusual there.
Now, for the first real chance to get wet, you’re looking at Saturday afternoon, the 4th of July. We’ve got a tiny 1ft SSW swell with a short 4-second period. The wind is a cross-off from the WNW at 12 mph, which will keep the surface clean, but honestly, that's a super weak, junky little wave. It's a beach/groyne setup, exposed to swell, but with that size, it’s really only going to offer some knee-high slop for the desperate. It’s not one for the beginners as there's barely any push, but it’s not too big either.
The next tiny blip is Tuesday morning, the 7th of July. There’s a 2ft S swell with a period of 5 seconds and a light cross-shore wind. The combined energy is still only 11. It’ll be small and a bit messy, definitely not a standout.
Then, hold on for Saturday morning, the 11th of July. This is the best we’ve got. We see a 2ft NNE swell, but the period is a short 5 seconds. The real winner here is the wind—it's described as glassy from the ENE at just 3 mph. That’s a major positive because it will result in clean, smooth surf. The combined energy is 12. It’s not going to be big or powerful, but if you want the cleanest, most rideable conditions of the entire outlook, this is your window. Keep in mind, The Harbour gets exposed to swell but the size is tiny, so it's more of a longboard or a fun day out on a foamie. For better surfers, you'll be disappointed.
After that, it’s essentially back to the drawing board. We go into a long gap with nothing of note. From the 11th afternoon right through to the 18th of July, it's all tiny, poor, or flat. The energy readings are 0 or just single digits, and winds are mostly onshore or cross, ruining whatever dribble there is. It’s a pretty grim run.
There’s a slight flicker on Saturday morning, the 18th of July, with a 0.7ft SSW swell and a light offshore wind from the SW. It's clean, but the wave height is barely there with a combined energy of only 3. That’s more of a wading pool than a surf.
So, to sum it up: the standout is clearly the glassy conditions on Saturday morning, the 11th of July. It’s the only period where the clean conditions match up with *some* swell. Everything else is a write-off. This area is looking like it's in a flat spell. Forecasts can change, but right now, keep your expectations low and your wax on the shelf.
Rusty.
