Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Righto, mate. Rusty here, and I gotta be straight with you – the outlook for The Harbour over the next couple of weeks is a bit of a heartbreaker. We've got a long, long stretch of flat or near-flat conditions to sit through before anything worth paddling out for shows up.
We're looking at a pretty grim run from now right through until nearly the end of the second week. There's a gap of around 12 days with essentially no decent surf on offer. Most days show either no swell at all or tiny, weak waves with poor energy readings, often with onshore or cross-onshore breezes messing it up. The water temp is sitting around 54°F, which is about average for the time of year, when we do finally get a wave.
The first real glimmer of hope arrives on Sunday, July 19th. Up until then, it’s a write-off. That morning we see something stirring: a 4ft swell from the NE with a period of 9 seconds and moderate combined wave energy of 216 (moderate). The wind is a cross-shore from the SE, so it'll be a bit lumpy but workable. The afternoon cleans up with a cross-offshore wind from the SSE, making for cleaner conditions. The swell drops a touch to 4ft but the energy is still there at 189 (moderate). This is the standout of the whole period, but it's nothing epic – just a session for the lads to get wet on something rideable after a dry spell. The NE swell direction isn't the optimum SE, so the waves might be a little fat, but it's the best we’ll see.
After that little pulse, it's back to the doldrums for Monday and Tuesday with onshore winds and no real swell. Honestly, for a spot like this that's fairly consistent, a 12-day blank run is not the norm, so keep an eye on the forecasts, they can flick around. But as it stands now, if you're after a paddle, circle Sunday, July 19th and keep your expectations in check.
Stay patient,
Rusty
