The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty. Pull up a log and let's talk about The Harbour. It's a pretty bleak picture for the next couple of weeks, so brace yourselves.
Looking at the full run, we've got a massive dry spell before anything even thinks about showing up. The first chance you'll get to even sniff some surf is the morning of Thursday, 27 August, and even that's a stretch. Let's walk through it.
Right now, and all the way through Wednesday, 26 August, it's a total bust. Fresh onshore winds, lumpy chop, and zero swell. The Harbour is a beach and groyne setup, so it's just a blown-out mess. Don't bother. This dead zone runs for over a week.
On the morning of Thursday, 27 August, a little pulse arrives. A 4ft swell from the ESE, with a 7-second period, and moderate energy (151). There's a light cross-shore wind, so it's not totally terrible, but the conditions are still described as poor. This is not the one.
Friday, 28 August, is your one and only chance. The morning sees some clean lines with a cross-offshore breeze from the WNW. The swell drops to 3ft from the East with that same short 7-second period. The energy is moderate (80). It's surfable, but nothing special. The real highlight, though, is the afternoon. We get a clean, offshore wind from the SW, with a 3ft swell from the ENE (7 seconds, energy 87). This is the best window in the whole outlook. It's small, but it'll be clean. At The Harbour (beach/groyne), that offshore wind will set it up nicely. This spot is fairly consistent, so expect a few local regulars out for this one, so crowds are possible.
That little window on Friday afternoon is it. From Saturday, 29 August, right through to Wednesday, 3 September, it's back to the same old story: onshore winds, tiny swell, and poor surf conditions. A few clean moments here and there, but with zero wave height to back them up.
Bottom line: your only real window is the afternoon of Friday, 28 August. It's small and clean. For the rest of the 16 days, The Harbour is a place to avoid. Sometimes forecasts shift, but right now, this looks like a pretty normal, long, flat spell for this area.
Rusty, out.
