The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for The Harbour. Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – this is a tough one. The whole 16-day window is looking pretty grim. We’ve got a long stretch of flat, wind-affected nothingness ahead, so don’t be rushing to grab your board just yet.
The first real chance to get wet doesn’t pop up until Sunday, July 19th. The Harbour is a beach/groyne setup, and it’s exposed to the swell. The water is sitting at 58°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. Nothing wild, just a bit of a pleasant surprise.
So, Sunday morning the 19th brings a bit of hope. We’ll see a 5ft swell pushing in from the NE, with a period of 9 seconds. That’s a moderate wave energy here (414). The wind is a light cross-onshore from the NNW though, so it’s not going to be perfect. The afternoon cleans up a bit with a cross-offshore breeze from the SSE, but the swell drops to 5ft. Still, Sunday afternoon is about as good as it’s going to get. It’s a marginal call, but it’s the only show in town.
Now, if you’re an expert and looking for something bigger, Sunday morning’s 5ft is the peak, but it’s not going to be clean. The wind is just not cooperating. For the rest of the crew, it’s a long wait. After Sunday, we’re back into a flat spell with nothing but poor conditions and cross-shore winds. The swell energy drops to nothing (1) on Monday the 20th, and it stays that way for days.
We’ve got a solid 7-day gap after Sunday the 19th with absolutely no recommendations. The next tiny bump comes on Tuesday, July 28th, with a 3ft to 3ft SE swell. The wind is clean and cross-offshore, which is nice, but the swell is tiny and the period is short (5 seconds). The energy is weak (34-41). It’s not really worth paddling out for unless you’re desperate.
Honestly, this is a classic case of a blank run. The Harbour is fairly consistent, but when it goes flat, it can stay that way. Forecasts can change, so keep an eye on it, but for now, the only standout is a very marginal one on Sunday afternoon, July 19th. Don’t get your hopes up.
Rusty.
