Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Harbour over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s cut to the chase – this outlook for The Harbour is a real bummer. We’re looking at a 16-day window that starts with a whole lot of nothing. The first record is for July 10th, and it’s already a blank with zero energy. From there, we’ve got a long, painful gap of small, weak slop that barely registers. The first real attempt at surf doesn’t even show up until July 18th, and even then it’s a mess.
The overall pattern is grim. The Harbour is a beach and groyne setup, exposed to the swell, but for the entire first week, the combined energy is in the basement – mostly under 50 (that’s weak). The swell direction is all over the shop from the NE and ENE, with periods so short you’d be bouncing on a windswell that’s just not connecting. The wind is a constant problem too, mostly cross-onshore or onshore from the NE and NNE, making everything choppy.
The only time we see a real jump in energy is on July 18th. The Saturday morning brings a 3ft swell from the NNE, with a combined energy of 47 (weak), and the period is a short 5 seconds. The wind is a fresh cross-shore from the NNW at 19 mph, which is just too strong. It’s going to be lumpy, cross-chop city. The afternoon bumps up to 3ft from the NE, with a period of 6 seconds and energy of 64 (still weak), but the wind is still a moderate cross-onshore. This is not a good look for a paddle. Honestly, with that much wind and that kind of messy, short-period swell on a beach break, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
For the rest of the second week, it’s a dead zone again. July 21st Tuesday afternoon has a 1.0ft swell from the NE with a period of 9 seconds and energy of 13 (weak), but the wind is light cross-offshore from the SSE. It’s clean, but there’s just no wave to ride. July 22nd and 23rd are similarly tiny and clean but with nothing to offer.
So, best on offer? There isn’t a standout. July 18th is the biggest pulse, but it’s a dud because of the wind and short period. July 21st and 22nd are clean but flat. Don’t hold your breath. The water is about average for the time of year, nothing unusual to report.
Rusty.
