The Lowdown
Alright, mate, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for The Harbour over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, I’ve got to be straight with you—this run looks pretty grim. We’re looking at a long, dry spell with no real surf to speak of for the first week and a half. The Harbour is a beach/groyne setup, and it’s just not catching anything worthwhile. The water temp is sitting at 57°F, which is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The whole forecast starts with a washout. Monday the 17th and Tuesday the 18th offer up tiny, weak dribbles, with swell heights barely hitting 2ft and periods of only 4 seconds. The combined energy is next to nothing (13). It’s just not worth paddling out for. That pattern sticks around right through until the 27th—days of flat, clean conditions, but with zero swell. You’ll see plenty of clean water, but no waves to ride. It’s a classic blank run for this area.
Now, the first real sign of life doesn’t pop up until Friday the 28th of August. That’s over a week away. The Harbour gets a pulse of swell from the ESE, around 5ft with a 7-second period. The combined energy jumps to 474, which is a solid moderate push. Problem is, the wind is cross-onshore, making it choppy and messy. That’s a bit of a letdown. It’s the biggest swell we see in the whole outlook, but the quality is poor. It’s likely too big for beginners, and with the wind on it, only the keenest experts might find something to work with.
After that, it fades fast. The 29th and 30th see the swell drop back to 2ft or less, with clean conditions but no power. Tuesday the 1st of September wraps it up with tiny, weak waves.
So, there’s no standout session here. The best on offer is that Friday the 28th, with the 5ft ESE swell, but the wind is not your friend. It’s a promising pulse in the energy, but the quality is a no-go. Keep your eyes on the forecasts, though, because it tends not to stay this flat forever.
Rusty.
