The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get into it. Rusty here.
Honestly, lookin’ at the next couple of weeks, the Harbour ain’t showin’ much life. There’s a long dry spell ahead before anything’s worth paddlin’ out for. For the first week and a bit, it’s mainly tiny, sloppy, and flat. Water temp is about 58°F, which is dead average for the season, so nothin’ weird there.
From now, Wednesday the 19th, through the end of the first week, it’s a quiet stretch. Wednesday morning has a measly 0.7ft SSW swell with a period of 4 seconds – just wind slop. The wind is cross-on from the NNW at 6 mph, and the combined energy is a weak 3, so don’t bother. The rest of that week is basically flat, with winds often blowin’ 19-22 mph from the north, makin’ everythin’ lumpy and messy. You get a few clean pockets on the 23rd and 24th, but with no swell, it’s just flat calm. Thursday the 27th wakes up a bit with a 4ft east swell, period of 7 seconds, and clean offshore wind from the SSW at 13 mph. Combined energy is moderate at 156. It’s surfable, but nothin’ special – just ordinary.
The real standout is shaping up for Monday the 31st of August. The morning is the one to get on. The Harbour will have a solid 7ft east-southeast swell, period of 8 seconds, with a light south wind at just 3 mph, glassin’ it right up. The combined energy is a strong 837, so there’s plenty of power. That’s your best bet of the whole run – clean, proper surf. A bit chunky for beginners, but solid for anyone with a bit of experience.
While the best window is Monday the 31st, Tuesday the 1st of September keeps the window cracked. The morning offers a 5ft east swell, period of 8 seconds, with a light offshore from the SW at 6 mph. Combined energy is moderate at 287. Good for a quick session, but not the main event.
After that, the swell fades fast into the second week, with only small, weak waves and onshore winds creepin’ back in. The pattern goes quiet, so Monday the 31st morning is your golden shot. Don’t sleep on it.
Rusty.
