The Lowdown
Right then, let's have a look at what's on offer for The Harbour over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, I gotta be straight with you – it's a tough watch for most of this outlook. The Harbour is a beach and groyne setup that likes a bit of SE swell, and we just aren't seeing it. The first week is a write-off. From Tuesday the 14th right through to Friday the 17th, it's flat or tiny, with poor onshore winds. Not a ripple worth paddling for.
The only real glimmer of hope, and I mean the only one, comes on Saturday the 18th. We've got a bit of a pulse showing up. The morning looks your best bet, with a clean 4ft wave from the NE and a light offshore wind from the WNW. The combined energy is moderate (233), which is about the best we'll see, but with a period of 8 seconds, it's a short-period wind swell, so it'll be a bit bouncy and fat. It's the standout, but it's not a world-beater. The Saturday afternoon gets a bit more cross-shore, and the quality drops off.
After that, it's a flat spell again. Sunday the 19th sees a bump in swell but with fresh, lumpy cross-onshore winds, making it a complete mess. From Monday the 21st through to the end of the outlook on Wednesday the 29th, it's virtually nothing. There's a tiny 0.3ft blip here and there, but with no energy to speak of, it's not worth getting wet for. Some of those days have clean offshore winds, but with no swell, it's just a pretty picture.
So, for the entire 16-day window, the only session that's really worth a look is the morning of Saturday the 18th. It's a small, clean wave for intermediates. For the rest of it, the board stays in the shed. This kind of blank run isn't that unusual for The Harbour when the swell direction goes wrong, but forecasts can always change, so keep an eye on it.
