Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Harbour over the next 16 days.

Alright, let’s get into it. The Harbour is a beach and groyne setup that’s exposed to swell from the SE, but this forecast is a tough one. There’s a massive gap at the start with basically nothing rideable, and it stays that way for a long stretch. The first hint of any surf doesn’t show up until Saturday the 12th, and even then, it’s tiny and weak. The water temp is about 54°F, which is pretty normal for this time of year, so no surprises there.

The first real chance to get wet comes on Sunday the 13th into Monday morning, with a little 2ft swell from the NE. The period is short at 7 seconds, so it’s weak windswell – the combined energy is only hitting 45 (moderate energy). It’s clean and clear but the wind is onshore, so it’s going to be a bit bumpy. Not a standout, just something to scratch the itch.

Honestly, the best of a pretty average run is the morning of Sunday the 19th. The swell is from the ESE at 2ft with a 6-second period, and while the wind is cross-onshore early, it cleans right up by the afternoon and goes glassy. That’s your moment. The combined energy is 45 (moderate), but with the glassy conditions, it’ll be the most fun you’ll have all outlook. The swell direction from the ESE isn’t the optimum SE, but it’s workable.

The rest of the window is a mix of tiny waves, onshore winds, and poor conditions. The harbour just doesn’t have the juice. There’s a couple of days toward the end of the month, the 23rd and 24th, where it gets glassy again, but the swell is tiny and inconsistent. It’s a long, quiet stretch. If you’re a kiter, the days with stronger cross-onshore winds and a bit of chop might be more interesting than paddle surfing.

So, for the surfers, Sunday the 19th morning into the glassy afternoon is your best shot. It’s not a classic, but it’s clean and small. The rest of the 16 days are mostly a write-off. Keep your eyes peeled, but don’t hold your breath.

Rusty.
