The Lowdown

Alright, let’s put it in feet and miles per hour.

Look, The Harbour is in a rough spot. We’ve got a long dry spell of flat to junk surf for the first week and then some, so don’t get your hopes up until Thursday, August 27th rolls around.

Tuesday the 18th starts off with a tiny 1ft swell from the ENE, period a short 5 seconds, and a cross-on wind from the NNW at 6 mph. Energy is weak, barely a bump. Water temp is 57°, normal for this time of year. It’s poor, not worth the walk.

From Wednesday the 19th all the way through Tuesday the 25th, it’s basically a gap. You get glimpses: 0.7ft, 1.0ft, even 2ft on Saturday the 22nd, but the wind is cross or cross-on, blowing 15 to 19 mph, messy and lumpy. Sunday the 23rd goes clean with light offshore wind from the WSW, but there’s zero swell to ride. Clean and flat — that’s the story.

Come Thursday the 27th of August morning — this is your bright spot. A 3ft swell from the ESE, period 7 seconds, with a clean cross-off wind from the SSE at 12 mph. Wave energy hits 139, so there’s some moderate push. It’s clean, it’s rideable. Not epic, but it’s as good as it gets. That afternoon, the wind swings NW and goes cross, the swell stays around 3ft but energy drops to 77 and it gets a chop.

Friday the 28th morning has 2ft from the ENE, clean but the wind is strong from the SSE at 22 mph. Saturday the 29th morning is the next option — 3ft from the ESE, offshore WSW wind at 22 mph, fresh but clean. Energy is 84. Maybe a dawn patrol.

The rest — Sunday the 30th, Monday the 31st, into September — is all small, under 2ft, with offshore or cross-off wind but no power. Tuesday the 1st of September morning has the biggest number at 4ft from the S, but it’s blowing 28 mph from the SSE, clean but strong. Energy is 92.

No true standout here. Thursday the 27th morning is the pick. The rest is for rigging your kite or staying in bed.

Rusty.
