The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
To be honest, it’s a pretty bleak run for The Harbour. We’ve got a long stretch of poor surf conditions ahead, with only a brief window that might be worth paddling out for. The water is a touch warmer than normal at 58°, which is a bit of a bonus, but not enough to save the week.
The first real chance to get wet looks like Sunday afternoon, July 19th. The wind is set to go glassy, which is a major positive – clean conditions. The swell is coming from the NE at 5 ft with a period of 9 seconds, and the combined energy is moderate at 321. It’s not a classic, but the glassy conditions will make it surfable. The Harbour is intermediate level and fairly consistent, so it’s a decent call for a Sunday session. Crowds are possible, so keep an eye out.
After that, the surf drops right off. Monday morning, July 20th, sees a tiny 0.3 ft bump, and then it’s largely flat or messy for days. There’s a bit of a pulse on Thursday, July 23rd, with a morning swell of 4 ft from the NE at 9 seconds (226 energy), but it’s a cross-shore wind and the forecast is only marginal. The afternoon on that day is clean with a cross-off wind, but the swell drops to 3 ft. It’s not a standout.
The rest of the period is a mix of small, short-period junk and onshore winds. There’s a few glassy moments on the 27th and 28th of July, but the swell is tiny – 0.7 ft and 3 ft respectively. Don’t get your hopes up.
So, the only real highlight is Sunday afternoon, July 19th at The Harbour. It’s the best of a bad lot. After that, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
