Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tarnos - La Digue over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's talk about the next couple of weeks for Tarnos - La Digue.
First up, I have to be straight with you—this is a tough one. The water is a balmy 76°, which is *much warmer than normal* for this time of year, so at least you won't be cold while you're sitting there waiting. But that's about the only thing going for us. We're looking at a long, dry spell with no real swell to speak of.
The first decent chance doesn't come until Saturday, July 11th. We'll see a tiny 0.7m (2ft) swell from the WNW, but the real story here is the wind. Early morning we get a clean offshore breeze from the east (10 km/h, or 6 mph), and the combined energy is a weak 102. It's surfable, but the waves are weak and ordinary. By the afternoon, the wind swings to the north, picks up to 20 km/h (12 mph), and it'll be a messy cross-shore chop.
After that, it's a desert of flat days. Sunday the 12th morning has a glassy 0.6m (2ft), but the energy is pitiful at 68, and the waves are just too small to get excited about. From Monday the 13th all the way through to Wednesday the 22nd, it's a grim run of tiny, weak, wind-blown conditions. You'll see a lot of onshore winds and combined energy readings that barely crack 100. It's honestly more of a kiteboarding breeze than a surfing swell a lot of those days.
The only real spike in the whole 16-day window is Tuesday, July 21st. We get a slightly bigger 0.9m (3ft) from the WNW, and the combined energy finally climbs to 106. It's still not big, but it's the best of a bad lot. The wind is cross-onshore from the NW at 15 km/h (9 mph), so it won't be perfect, but it's the highest energy we see. The following day, Wednesday the 22nd, has a similar 0.9m (3ft) swell, and the morning brings a clean cross-offshore breeze from the NNE at 15 km/h (9 mph), giving you the cleanest conditions of the whole period. But again, it's only 0.9m (3ft).
The standout? There isn't a true standout. The best you'll get is the cleanest wave on Wednesday morning, July 22nd, but don't expect any power. If you're desperate for a paddle, the Saturday morning, July 11th with the offshore wind is your next best bet.
Honestly, for a beginner spot, this is a tough run. The swell is too small and weak for anyone to have much fun. We might see a change in the forecasts, but as it stands, it's a waiting game. The best advice is to leave the board in the car and check the forecast again next week.
Rusty.
