The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, and I gotta be straight with you about Tarnos - La Digue. To call this a frustrating outlook would be an understatement. The next two weeks are mostly a write-off.
We start the period and there's just nothing. For the first few days, from Monday the 17th right through until Thursday the 20th, it's pure junk. Tiny little dribblers, cross-onshore winds, and that combined wave energy is barely registering. You're looking at numbers like 62 and 45 for that energy. It's flat out poor.
Then Thursday morning the 20th shows a glimmer, a 3ft NW swell with a decent 11 second period. The energy jumps to 245, which is something, but the wind is cross-on and it's only rated as marginal. It’s definitely not one to get excited about.
The one and only true standout here is Friday morning, the 21st of August. That’s your window. The wind swings around to a light cross-offshore from the NE, cleaning things up nicely. You've got a solid 5ft swell rolling in from the NW with a 10-second period. The combined energy is up at 523, so there's some proper push behind it. This is the best on offer by a country mile – clean lines and some decent power. It won't be huge, but it'll be fun.
After that little window, it goes back to the struggle. Saturday morning the 22nd has clean 4ft waves with an offshore breeze, but the energy drops to 191, and it’s ordinary. Sunday morning the 23rd is similar, just smaller. Then from Sunday afternoon right through to the end of the month, it's back to poor conditions, onshore winds, and messy surf. The swell tries to kick again around Sunday the 30th with some 5ft NW swell, but the rain and onshore wind ruin it.
Honestly, for these next two weeks, you’ve got one real shot: early Friday the 21st. Don't sleep on it. For everything else, maybe check if the kite is pumping because the paddle board is staying in the car. This isn't a place that gets long flat spells, so this blank run is a bit of a stinker, but it won’t last.
