Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s on offer for the Tarnos stretch.
Right now, we are in a pretty flat spell. The opening days of the forecast up to and including the 11th of July are not giving us anything worthwhile. We’re looking at tiny, weak swell with poor, onshore winds just chopping everything up. Not a single rideable wave in the mix for the first week, really.
Come Saturday morning, the 11th of July, things finally start to show a pulse. We get a bit of a NW swell, nothing giant—around 2ft—with the period just at 9 seconds. It’s not a world-beater, but that offshore breeze from the east cleans it right up. The combined energy is only 112, so it’s moderate at best. Honestly, it’s just "surfable," not something to get excited about, but at least the wind is behaving.
The standout of this whole outlook is Sunday morning, the 12th of July. We’ve got that same NW swell at 2ft with a slightly longer period of 10 seconds, and here’s the magic: the wind is glassy. Absolute flat calm. It’s going to be silky clean at Tarnos - La Digue. The wave energy sits at 106, which is still moderate, but with conditions like that, every little bump will be worth paddling out for. If you only have one session to pick this week, that’s it.
For the rest of the period, it’s a real mixed bag. The water temperature is 74°, a good 6° warmer than normal, so the water feels like bathwater for this time of year. But the swell stays small, and the wind keeps flipping around onshore or cross-onshore, so don’t expect any fireworks.
A quick heads up for Monday, the 22nd of July. That Wednesday morning session has a glassy start again with a clean 3ft swell from the NW, but the period is a short 6 seconds. It will be small and a bit weak, but the conditions will be right for a quiet, clean paddle. Not a standout, but a decent option if you’re desperate.
Overall, the best waves are tiny and only really worth it on the 11th morning and that absolute glass-off Sunday morning on the 12th. The rest of the 16-day run is mostly a write-off with onshore wind and very little energy.
Stay patient, and keep an eye on the wind.
