Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tarnos - La Digue over the next 16 days.
The Lowdown
Alright, grab a coffee and listen up. I’m Rusty, and I’ve been staring at the charts for this stretch of coast. Let’s run through what’s on the table for the next couple of weeks.
Overall, the pattern starts with a bit of a hiccup. We’ve got a solid window of decent, clean waves, but it takes a few days of wind and chop before we get there. The early action gets washed out by a mix of onshores and average conditions. The true standout is undoubtedly the Saturday morning, August 30th – that’s your best bet for a clean, fun session. For the longer look, the morning of Thursday September 4th shows some serious promise with absolutely no wind.
Let’s break it down.
The first few days are a write-off for quality. Friday August 21st afternoon sees a 6ft swell from the NW at Tarnos - La Digue but it’s onshore from the WNW, and the water is a balmy 77°F which is much warmer than normal for this time of year. That’s a rare treat temperature-wise, but the waves are messy.
Saturday August 22nd is where we start to see hope. The morning is clear with an offshore breeze from the East at 9 mph. The swell has dropped to a clean 4ft from the NW with a 9-second period, and the combined wave energy is moderate at 241. This is surfable and clean, a solid session. The afternoon turns to junk with a cross-offshore wind messing things up.
Sunday August 23rd morning offers a glimpse with a very light offshore, but the swell is tiny at 2ft with only 63 units of energy. It’s surfable but ordinary. After that, from Monday August 24th until Wednesday morning August 26th, it’s a dead zone of tiny, choppy waves or long-period but puny 0.3ft to 1ft stuff. Wednesday August 26th morning is glassy with a light 2ft swell, but it’s from the WNW and not really packing a punch.
Thursday August 27th afternoon turns ugly. A big 10ft WNW swell hits with a period of 8 seconds and massive energy (1074 units), but it’s straight onshore and the forecast says it’s too big for Tarnos - La Digue. That’s expert-only territory, and even then, the wind is going to make it a washing machine.
Now, the standout window. Saturday August 30th morning is your moment. We have a clean 5ft swell from the NW with a 9-second period (326 units of energy). The wind is a light offshore from the East at 6 mph, which will make the faces clean and smooth. The crowd profile says “sometimes” busy, so get there early for a peak. This is beginner-friendly at that size, but the quality is the best on offer in the whole outlook.
Then, keep an eye on Monday August 31st morning. Another clean window with a 4ft WNW swell and a glassy wind from the WSW. It’s a bit smaller, but the wind is dead calm. Good for a patient surfer.
The first week of September gets messy again. Tuesday September 1st and Wednesday 2nd are blown out by onshore winds. Thursday 3rd has a bigger 5ft to 8ft swell, but the wind is cross-onshore.
Finally, looking long-range, Thursday September 4th morning is another standout but less certain. The wind is forecast to be completely calm, glassy conditions, with a 6ft WNW swell. That’s a solid, clean option for a morning session if it holds.
Saturday September 5th finishes the run with a small, onshore 4ft.
This is a spot that is fairly consistent for swell, but the wind plays games. When the stars align, like on August 30th, it’s worth the wait.
Rusty.
