The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's get into what's on the menu for our local stretch, Tarnos - La Digue. Gotta be straight with you – we're in for a bit of a slow start. The first week is pretty grim, with only a few brief windows of hope. The real gold is tucked away at the very end of the forecast.
We're kicking off on Tuesday the 18th and honestly, the first few days are a write-off. Tiny little 1ft to 2ft waves, mostly messy with poor conditions. You'd be wasting your time. That carries right through Wednesday the 19th.
Thursday the 20th sees a pulse of new swell creep in, around 4ft from the NW, but it's still messy and the wind is junk. The combined energy is moderate (304), but the conditions just aren't there. Friday the 21st is similar: a bit more size at 5ft, but the wind is junk again. Hard pass.
Now, Saturday the 22nd is where we get our first decent look. It's light rain, but the wind turns clean offshore from the ESE. We've got a clean 4ft swell from the NW with moderate energy (241). This is surfable. The morning is the pick, with that clean, lined-up feel. Sunday the 23rd holds a bit of that leftover energy, but it's smaller at 3ft and clean.
Then we hit a long dry spell. From Monday the 24th all the way through to Saturday the 29th, it's mostly tiny, weak, or just plain messy. A few mornings show clean conditions, like the 28th with a 3ft NW swell and offshore wind (energy 150), but it's barely worth paddling out for. Sunday the 30th afternoon shows some promise, but it's not the standout.
Okay, here’s the one you’ve been waiting for. The absolute standout of the entire forecast is Tuesday, September 1st, in the afternoon. The conditions align perfectly. We're looking at a clean, glassy 5ft swell from the NW, but the key is the period – 11 seconds, giving it some proper groundswell grunt. The combined energy is a solid 595 (moderate to strong). The wind goes glassy from the North. This is the session to circle on your calendar. It’s the best bet for a proper wave. A 5ft wave on the headland? That's a fun size for most.
Following that, Wednesday the 2nd of September morning still has some solid 5ft energy (540), but the wind is cross-shore and it's a bit more of a gamble with questionable tide and a risk of storms in the afternoon. It’s a step down from Tuesday, but worth a look if you missed the window.
