Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tarnos - La Digue over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the menu for the next 16 days.
Honestly, mate, it's a bit of a slow grind. The pattern is mostly small, junky swell with cross-onshore winds, so don't expect much for the first week and a half. We're looking at a lot of knee-to-waist high dribble, and the wind is rarely doing us any favours. There's a promising spike right at the end, but it's a long way off.
Things kick off on Sunday, the 12th of July, with Tarnos. It's a beach and jetty setup, exposed to the west, but the swell is tiny at 2 ft from the WNW with a short period of 9 seconds. The combined energy is a weak 56. The wind is cross-onshore, so it's messy. The water is a very unusual 75.7°, which is 7° warmer than normal for this time of year – that's a real standout.
Monday the 13th morning is about the best we get in the near term. The swell is a bit better at 3.6 ft from the NW, but the period is only 6 seconds, so it's weak windswell. The combined energy is moderate at 111. The wind goes glassy, which is a major positive for clean conditions. It's still just surfable waves, very ordinary. The wind stays tricky for the next week, mostly cross-onshore or onshore, with a few glassy mornings on the 14th, 17th, and 19th, but the swell is tiny on those days.
From the 20th of July, we start to see a bit more size. Swell builds to 4.6 ft on Monday the 20th, with moderate energy (167-235), but the wind is onshore or cross-onshore, so it's choppy. The same story continues through the 21st and 22nd, with swell around 3.3-4.3 ft, but the wind is poor.
The standout is the end of the run. From Thursday the 23rd through Friday the 24th of July, the swell pushes up. On the 23rd, we get 5.2 ft in the morning building to 6.9 ft in the afternoon, with a longer period of 9-10 seconds from the NW. The combined energy is strong, hitting 430 in the morning and 745 in the afternoon. By Friday the 24th, it's still solid at 6.2 ft from the NW, with a period of 10 seconds and very strong energy of 730. The wind is onshore, though, so it'll be a bit of a battle. At 6.9 ft, this is expert-only territory, and the onshore wind will make it a grunty, messy beast. The beach break setup might actually be more interesting for kite surfers than paddle surfing on those days.
So, the only real window to get excited about is that late push. The 23rd and 24th of July have the size and energy, but it's a long-range call and the wind is a problem. The rest is a waiting game.
Short Range ForecastMostly dry. Warm (max 36°C on Sun afternoon, min 19°C on Tue morning). Winds decreasing (fresh winds from the W on Sun night, calm by Mon morning). | Days 5-7 Weather SummaryMostly dry. Warm (max 22°C on Wed afternoon, min 18°C on Thu night). Wind will be generally light. | ||||||||||||||||||||
