The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here, let's have a look at what’s coming for Santa Comba over the next couple of weeks.

Right off the bat, it’s a quiet start. The first few days are pretty ordinary, with light to moderate winds messing up the shape. You’ll see some small swell around on Tuesday the 1st of September, about 5ft from the NW with a period of 9 seconds, but it’s cross-on with a NE breeze at 6 mph, leaving things a bit lumpy. The combined swell energy is moderate though, sitting at 351. The water temp is 63°, which feels a bit colder than normal for this time of year.

We get a real standout on Sunday the 6th of September. Morning glass-off with a SSW breeze at just 3 mph, and a solid 4ft groundswell from the NNW with an 11-second period. The combined energy is strong at 475, and the conditions are set to be clean and glassy. This is the best you’ll see in the first week – get on it early.

Then things go quiet again for a stretch, with no real highlights until Wednesday the 9th of September. That morning is another winner: a 5ft NW swell with an 11-second period, cross-off wind from the SW at 6 mph, and the energy is pumping at 552. Clean conditions and a proper wave – that’s the one to aim for.

After that, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. There’s a promising window on Tuesday the 15th of September: early morning glass with a 4ft swell from the W at 11 seconds, energy at 433. Good surf conditions are expected, so keep an eye on it.

The absolute standout of the entire forecast is Wednesday the 16th of September. Glassy conditions both morning and afternoon, with the morning bringing a 4ft WNW groundswell at a very long 13 seconds – that’s a proper long-period groundswell, perfect for a point or reef setup. Combined energy is a whopping 708. The afternoon is even glassier with zero wind and a 5ft WNW swell at 12 seconds, energy at 599. That is the day to clear your schedule, but being so far out, long-range, treat it as promising rather than locked in.

Santa Comba is consistent, so even when the surf looks meh, it can turn around quickly. Keep an eye on that Wednesday the 16th – that could be a beauty.

Rusty.
