Surf Forecasts:
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be real about the next 16 days for Sheboygan. I’ve looked it over, and I gotta tell ya, it’s a tough one for us paddle surfers.
The big picture is that we’re looking at a full 16-day stretch with absolutely no rideable swell on offer. Every single day from Thursday, July 9th, right through to Friday, July 24th, is showing zero combined wave energy (0) and the report is screaming "poor surf conditions" across the board. That’s a blank run, plain and simple. For a spot like Sheboygan, which is a fairly consistent reef break, this is unusual. It’s a bit of a bummer, but hang in there – it tends not to stay this flat for long, and forecasts can always change.
We’ve got one break to look at, Sheboygan itself. It’s a reef setup that’s exposed to the swell, so it’s usually the first to light up. The optimum swell direction is SE, but we’re not seeing any of that. The water temp is sitting at 64°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s small comfort when there’s no waves.
The wind will be all over the place, with some clean, glassy moments on Sunday the 12th after noon, and even a few offshore mornings on the 13th and 16th. But without a single wave in the water, it’s just a pretty day at the lake. There’s even a morning on the 19th where it’s glassy with NNE winds at 3 mph, and another on the 23rd with offshore SW winds at 6 mph. All that potential, and nothing to ride.
The only thing worth noting is that if you’re into other board sports, the strong cross-offshore winds we’ll see on a few afternoons, like the 20th and 21st with 12 mph from the SW, might make the lake look more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. But for us surfers, this is a total washout.
Stay patient, keep your eyes on the forecast, and I’ll be back when there’s something real to talk about.
Rusty.
