The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you—this outlook is a tough one. The only spot in the mix is 17th Ave, and frankly, it’s not looking like much of a surf window for the next 16 days. We’ve got a long stretch of nothing burger conditions ahead.
The overall pattern is flat and quiet. There’s a gap of several days with no real surf on offer. The first few days show tiny, weak swell with poor winds, so don’t bother paddling out. Even by the middle of the second week, the energy is still very low, with combined energy readings barely hitting double digits (max 21). The water temp is about 85.6°, which is pretty normal for this time of year, so at least you won’t need a wetsuit.
The only time the swell even tries to stand up is around Monday, August 17th. The morning shows a bit of 2.3ft swell from the WSW, but the period is a short 4 seconds—so it’s weak, chopped-up energy. The combined energy hits 17 (weak), and the wind is a light cross-onshore, which won’t help clean it up. The afternoon is similar, with the same height and direction, but a bit more chop from a gentle cross-onshore breeze. Honestly, this is not a standout. For a wave that’s sheltered and generally for beginners, 2.3ft is about the max you’d want, but it’s not clean, and the crowds are possible out there.
The rest of the window is a bust. The 17th is the only date with any kind of pulse, but it’s poor surf quality all the way through. If you’re desperate, you might find a knee-high dribble, but don’t expect anything rideable. This blank run is pretty normal for the area when the swell windows close up.
Stay patient, and keep an eye on the charts—forecasts can change, and it tends not to stay this poor for long.
