The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’.
Look, I’ve got to be straight with you – this is a tough stretch for Seccheto (Elba). The 16-day window is mostly a flat spell, and it’s looking like a real quiet period for the sandbar. We start with a tiny, weak pulse on Friday the 11th – a meagre 1 ft from the SSE, with a short period of 6 seconds. The combined energy is barely a whisper at (6). Winds are light cross-shore, and the water is far warmer than normal for the time of year, sitting at 82°, but honestly, there’s just not enough to ride. After that, it’s a long, dry gap.
From Saturday the 12th right through to Thursday the 17th, we see next to nothing. A few days with offshore or glassy conditions, which would be beautiful for clean waves, but there’s simply no swell to work with – heights are at 0.3 ft or just flat. The energy stays in single digits (1 or 2). This is a classic blank run for this spot. It’s frustrating when the wind is perfect but the ocean just won’t send us anything.
We get a slight flicker of life on Thursday the 17th and Friday the 18th. The swell tries to nudge up to 2 ft to 2 ft from the S, with a period of only 4 seconds. That’s a short, weak, close-to-home windswell, not the kind that makes for a good ride. The combined energy climbs a little to (10) to (15), but the wind on Thursday is onshore and choppy, while Friday morning offers a clean offshore from the NNE. Still, the waves will be small and weak. The glassy conditions on Friday afternoon with 1 ft are the closest we get to a pretty picture, but it’s barely a knee-high dribble.
After the 18th, it’s back to a dead flat ocean for the rest of the window, right through to the 26th. There’s nothing on offer.
If you’re desperate for a paddle, Friday the 18th morning is your best bet. The wind is offshore from the NNE, the air is clean, and you might find a tiny 2 ft wave from the S. But don’t get your hopes up – this is strictly flotation therapy, not surfing.
Honestly, for a place that’s inconsistent, this is a standard empty spell. The forecasts could change, but right now, it’s a time to wax the board for next week, not this one.
