The Lowdown
G’day, it’s Rusty.
Right off the bat, I’ve got some bad news: Punta Molentis is looking flat and weak for the next couple of weeks. It’s a long, dusty stretch with barely a ripple. The water is a toasty 85°F, which is a whopping 7°F warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s a big deal, so at least you can swim in boardies.
Let’s run through it. From Wednesday the 5th, there’s a tiny 1ft SE swell with a 4-second period, and a light WNW wind early. It’s clean but there’s zero push. The energy is weak (4). Forget it. Thursday the 6th is glassy in the morning but the swell is gone, just 1ft from the NNE with a 3-second period (2). Dead flat. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are all empty. The energy numbers are at zero. Seriously, go find a rock pool.
Monday the 10th has a phantom 0.3ft SE bump (1), and it’s glassy. Tuesday and Wednesday are the same story – nothing. The first half-decent, and I use that term loosely, wave shows up on Saturday the 16th afternoon with a 2ft SSW swell, but it’s a short 3-second period and it’s cross-onshore and choppy (6). Not worth the sand in your trunks.
Then, at the very end of the window, things get weird. On Tuesday the 18th, we get a bump to 1-1ft from the NNE with a 7-second period, and it’s clean with a moderate WNW offshore wind. The energy ticks up a touch (9 to 17). Still tiny, but at least it’s a proper little wave. The next day, Wednesday the 19th, the offshore wind jumps to a fresh 22 mph from the WNW, but the swell drops back to 0.7ft with a 4-second period (2). By Thursday the 20th, the wind is howling at 22-28 mph from the NW, but the swell is gone completely. At that point, it’s just a windsurfing or kitesurfing show, not a surf.
So, the only moment with any sort of clean, rideable shape is Tuesday the 18th morning, but it’s still only 1ft. There is nothing else on offer. The inconsistency is brutal, and for a spot that’s already inconsistent, a blank run like this is pretty standard. Don’t hold your breath, but forecasts can change. Keep an eye on the sky, but leave the board at home for now.
Rusty.
