Alright, let’s get into it. I’m lookin’ at the Rome area, and honestly, it’s a tough stretch. Circoletto (Rome) is the only spot on the radar, but the surf over the next 16 days is about as flat as it gets. We’re talkin’ tiny dribbles, nothin’ worth paddlin’ out for. The water here is much warmer than normal at 81°F, which is over 5°F above average – that’s pretty unusual for this time of year.
The first few days, from Friday the 3rd through the weekend, we’ve got barely a ripple. Swell heights are 0.7ft or less, with weak energy readings – you’re lookin’ at values like 5 or even zero. Winds are mostly cross-on or onshore, makin’ a mess of things. Saturday morning the 4th has a clean look with light offshore ENE breeze, but with only 1ft of WNW swell and a period of 5 seconds, it’s more of a lake than the ocean. Not worth wettin’ a suit.
Sunday the 5th and Monday the 6th are flat as a pancake – zeros across the board. Tuesday the 7th shows a tiny pulse: 1ft of SW swell in the afternoon, but combined energy is only 8, and the wind is onshore. Wednesday morning the 8th is glassy with a light NNE breeze, but again, it’s 1ft of weak 4-second swell. Not enough to ride.
We go through a big gap from Thursday the 9th all the way to Saturday the 11th with nothin’ – zeros or near-zero energy. The second week rolls in with a bit more activity but still bad. Sunday the 12th afternoon has 1ft of SW swell and 9 energy, but cross-on winds at 12 mph chop it up. Monday the 13th morning offers the best of a bad lot: 2ft of SSW swell, clean offshore NE wind at 6 mph, and combined energy just 15. That’s the standout, but it’s tiny – only for a log or a longboard, and even then, you’re scratchin’.
From there, it’s back to flatness through the 14th to the 18th. A few mornings like Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th have offshore winds and small WNW swell, but heights are 0.7–1ft and periods are short, 3–4 seconds. Not gonna get your heart racin’. Saturday the 18th morning is clean with light offshore wind, but it’s 0.7ft of 4-second WNW swell.
Bottom line: there’s no real surf in this 16-day window. If you’re itchin’ for a paddle, the morning of Monday the 13th is your only shot, and it’s a gamble. This area just goes through blank runs like this – it ain’t unusual. Forecasts can change, but for now, leave the board at home.
