The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for Circoletto (Rome) over the next couple of weeks.
First off, I gotta be straight with you – this is a tough stretch. We’re looking at a two-week run of tiny, weak, and messy conditions. The water is sitting at a very unusual 82°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so you’ll be sweating in your wettie, but that’s about the only highlight.
The first real chance to even paddle out doesn’t show up until Saturday the 25th of July. The morning is your best bet with a 4ft SSW swell. The combined energy is weak, sitting at 139 (moderate wave energy), but the wind is offshore from the NE at 9 mph, so it’ll be clean. That said, the swell period is a short 6 seconds, so it’ll be a bit weak and lumpy, not much push. The afternoon gets wrecked by a cross-on wind.
Then on Monday the 27th of July, there’s another small window. The morning brings a 3ft W swell with offshore NNE winds at 9 mph. Combined energy is only 89 (weak wave energy), and it’s a short-period 6-second swell, so it’s marginal at best.
Tuesday the 28th of July morning is the last gasp I can see. A 4ft W swell with a light ENE cross-off breeze at 6 mph. The combined energy is 115 (moderate wave energy), but again, it’s a short period of 6 seconds. The waves will be there, but they won’t have any grunt.
Honestly, what we’re looking at is a whole lot of flat spells with a few half-decent mornings that are still just “ordinary.” Don’t get your hopes up. The break is inconsistent and exposed to SSW swell, but the swells that do show up are small and weak. For a spot that’s advanced-level, this just isn’t really doing it. Given the onshore winds and weak swell, the beach and reef setup here might be more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Keep an eye on the charts, but right now, I’d be finding something else to do.
Rusty.
