The Lowdown
Alright, let me tell ya, the surf outlook for Circoletto (Rome) over the next 16 days is pretty much a flat spell, I gotta be honest with ya. There's just no energy to get excited about. The whole window is a tough one, and we're looking at a long stretch with hardly a wave worth paddling for.
Right now, Friday the 21st of August, the swell is tiny at 3 ft from the SSW with a short period of 6 seconds, and the combined wave energy is a weak 40. The wind is a messy cross-shore from the SE at 12 mph, so it's choppy and poor. Not a chance I'd be suiting up. Afternoon is even worse with the wind turning cross-on.
The following days are a real bummer. Saturday the 22nd starts clear with a light offshore breeze from the ENE at 6 mph, which would make it clean, but the swell is only 2 ft from the west and period of 5 seconds – just no push. The energy is only 18. Sunday the 23rd morning is similar, clean with a NNE offshore at 6 mph, but again only 2 ft of weak west swell. Monday the 24th through to the end of August is flat as a pancake with zeros for wave energy on many sessions – we're talking days of nothing.
There is one faint glimmer right at the end of the month. On Sunday the 30th of August morning, we finally see a little bump: 4 ft from the west with a 6-second period, giving us our highest energy reading of the whole forecast at 112. The wind is a clean offshore from the NNE at 12 mph, so it will be clean. But even then, the “poor surf conditions” label is there, and 4 ft with a short period from the west isn't exactly lighting the world on fire. The break itself is exposed to SSW and the optimum direction is SSW, so this west swell is off-angle, and the break is for advanced surfers only as it’s inconsistent and can be a tricky beach and reef setup.
After that, it drops right back down to tiny, weak waves through the first week of September. There's a glassy morning on Friday the 4th of September, but with absolutely no swell at all, it's just a flat, pretty ocean.
In short, you're looking at a two-week stretch with almost no surf. If you're desperate, the only window that even shows a pulse is the morning of Sunday the 30th of August, but keep your expectations on the floor. This place is normally a bit of a gamble, and right now, the gamble isn't paying off.
