Table - best surf conditions forecast for Circoletto (Rome) over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight up about this one. We've got a 16-day window looking at Circoletto (Rome), and if you're hoping for a proper session, you're going to be waiting a while. This is a stretch of real patience.
The whole forecast period is a tough one. The water's a touch warmer than normal for the time of year at 79°, which is nice, but it doesn't make up for the lack of surf. We’ve got a solid gap of very little to no surf from the start right through to the end of the first week. There are small pulses of energy, but they're all tagged as "poor surf conditions" with scores that just don't stack up. The swell is tiny, the period is short, and the wind is mostly wrong.
Looking at the first real sign of life, it's not until Sunday the 12th of July. The morning shows a glassy 2 ft SSW swell with a weak period of 6 seconds, and the combined energy is a paltry 27. That's barely a ripple. The wind is light and offshore from the ENE, which would make it clean, but there's just no power behind it. Sunday afternoon gets a bit more height at 2 ft, but the wind swings onshore from the WSW, making it choppy and messy.
Monday the 13th of July morning is another tease. A clean 2 ft from the SSW with a light offshore NE breeze, but again, the period is short at 6 seconds and the energy is low at 20. It's clean, but it's not going to be a ride you'll remember.
The second week doesn't look any better. From the 14th of July right through to the 24th of July, there are long stretches of flat calm with zero combined energy. The models show a few days in the 20th and 21st of July with a 3 ft swell from the west, but the period is just 6 seconds and the wind is a messy cross or cross-onshore. The combined energy climbs to 82 and 84, which is still weak, and the conditions are choppy. This setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing, to be honest, because the wind is strong and the wave quality is poor.
The best you could possibly hope for, and I'm stretching here, would be that glassy morning on Sunday the 12th of July or Monday the 13th of July. A clean surface with a tiny swell. It's not a standout by any stretch, just the least bad option. Unfortunately, for a break that's exposed to a SSW optimum, the swell direction is close but the size and period just aren't there. For the rest of the window, keep your gear in the shed. This is a blank run, and for this area, it's not that unusual to see such a quiet spell. Forecasts can change, but right now, it's a waiting game.
Rusty.
