The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Circoletto (Rome) over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, I’m scratching my head a bit. The forecast is a long, flat spell of tiny, weak, and messy surf. For the first week and a half, there’s just nothing to get excited about—waves are consistently under 1 ft, with periods so short they’re barely a ripple. The combined energy is mostly in the single digits (1 to 9), meaning the ocean is flat out snoozing. We’re looking at a real gap here with no real recommendations until the very end of the month.
The first faint glimmer comes on Sunday, July 26th, early. It’s not much, but we get a tiny 2 ft swell from the west (combined energy of 18) with a light offshore NNE breeze. That’s the first clean window we’ve seen, but the swell is still tiny. This spot is a beach and reef setup, and it’s inconsistent at the best of times, so even this feels like a long shot for a few small, clean waves.
The most promising window in the whole outlook lands on Thursday, July 31st, in the morning. We’ve got a 2 ft swell from the south, a period of 6 seconds, and a light offshore ENE breeze at 6 mph. The water will be glassy and clean. The combined energy is a modest 17, so it’s not powerful, but for a break that’s been flat for a week, this is the best we’re gonna get. The water temperature is a whopping 83°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year—over 5° warmer than average. That’s a very unusual anomaly.
Then, on Saturday, August 1st, early, we get a repeat: 2 ft from the west, 6-second period, and a clean offshore ENE breeze at 6 mph. The combined energy bumps up to 24, which is the highest we see. Again, it’s clean and the best of a very flat bunch. But keep your expectations low—this is an inconsistent spot and these are tiny waves.
In short: If you’re desperate for a paddle, the early mornings of July 31st and August 1st are your only real shots, with clean, offshore winds and small, rideable lumps. Everything else is a flat, choppy, or cross-shore mess. The crowd factor is listed as “often” here, so even on a small day, it might get busy for what little is breaking.
