The Lowdown

Alright, I gotta be straight with you—this one is a bummer. The whole 16-day outlook for Port Stanley is bone dry. From Monday the 14th of September all the way through to Tuesday the 29th, there is not a single wave worth paddling for. The guidance tells me Port Stanley (Falkland Islands) can be a consistent break when it gets the right swell, but this forecast period is a total flat spell.

Kicking off Monday the 14th: the water is way warmer than usual for this time of year, sitting at 73°F with an anomaly 4°F above normal—pretty wild, but it doesn’t matter ‘cause there’s no surf. The combined energy of any swell aimed here is a flat zero (0). Clear skies and a light northerly cross-off wind, but not a ripple of a wave.

Tuesday the 15th onward just keeps repeating the same story. Southerly and south-southwest winds, most days onshore, and never even a hint of swell height recorded. I do see a couple of glassy mornings—Thursday the 17th and Thursday the 24th—but glass without swell is just a flat lake.

For kite surfers, there are some afternoons with moderate cross-off easterlies around the 20th and 21st that could be fun, but for anyone holding a surfboard? This is a two-week dead zone. For a spot that’s usually consistent, this kind of dry run is unusual, but forecasts change—so don’t write it off for good.

Rusty.
