Point Reyes Beach Surf Forecast and Surf Report

G’day, Rusty here. Well, it’s a bit of a slow start at Point Reyes Beach this week. We’ve got a few small, clean windows but the real standout action is looking like Monday the 10th and Tuesday the 11th. Let’s run through it.

First up, Wednesday the 5th – we’re starting with tiny 1ft south-west swell, period hanging around 14 seconds, and the water’s a bit colder than average for this time of year at 55°F. Combined wave energy is moderate (152). It’s surfable, but the southerly breeze is cross-offshore and light – makes for clean faces. Very ordinary though.

Thursday the 6th through to Saturday the 8th – swell bumps up just a little to 2ft to 2ft, still from the south-west then shifting south-south-west, but the wind turns cross-on or onshore for the most part. Combined energy climbs into the 180–380 range, so there’s a bit more push, but conditions are poor. Saturday morning is marginal with west 6 mph cross-on wind and 2ft south-south-west swell at 18 seconds – you can look, but it’s not worth paddling out for anything special.

Then Sunday the 9th – the swell jumps to 8ft from the north-west, but it’s all onshore wind at 16 mph, and the period is short at 9 seconds. That’s a messy, blown-out mess with strong wave energy (1660). That said, at this size anything over 8ft is expert-only, and with that wind it’s more of a kite session than a paddle session. Stay home unless you’re a glutton for punishment.

Now here’s the good bit: Monday the 10th morning. Swell sits at 5ft from the west-north-west (10-second period), and we get a south-south-east breeze at 9 mph – cross-offshore and clean. Combined energy is a solid 613, so there’s proper moderate wave energy. This is the standout. Expect very good surf conditions. Point Reyes Beach is fairly consistent, and crowds are possible – it can get busy when it’s this good.

Straight into Tuesday the 11th morning – similar story: 5ft west-north-west swell, 10-second period, light south wind at 6 mph, cross-offshore. Combined energy 526. Again, very good surf. The afternoon gets messy with onshore wind, so hit it early.

Wednesday the 12th and Thursday the 13th – swell holds around 4ft to 5ft, but the wind stays variable. Wednesday has light cross-shore wind with a 9-second period, making it marginal. Thursday afternoon looks cleaner with a gentle south-south-west breeze and 3ft west-north-west swell at 12 seconds – expect good conditions, though not a standout.

Friday the 14th – swell drops to 2ft, but the 18-second period is juicy. Early south wind gives clean conditions, combined energy 469. It’s small but lined up. Saturday the 15th morning sees a return to 3ft south-west swell, light south-south-west wind, 17-second period, and combined energy of 697 – another very good window. That’s your second highlight.

From Sunday the 16th onward, it falls apart – onshore winds, stronger breezes, and the swell gets blown to bits. Tuesday the 18th is a write-off with north-west winds up to 31 mph. The rest of the second week looks poor.

Summing up: Point Reyes Beach offers two proper highlights. Monday the 10th morning and Tuesday the 11th morning are your best bets. Saturday the 15th morning is also worth a look. Everything else is small, onshore, or marginal. You can score it clean early if you time it right.
