Playa de Bastiagueiro Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, folks, it’s Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – looking at this 16-day stretch, the surf gods are not smiling on Playa de Bastiagueiro. This is a real dry spell, and I’m not just talking about the sand. We’re looking at a blank run for the vast majority of this window.

The problem isn’t a lack of waves, but that every bit of open ocean energy is hitting us from the wrong direction or getting chopped to pieces. It’s like the ocean is teasing us, sending some swell, but then the wind just wrecks it all.

Right off the bat, Saturday afternoon the 15th is a washout. We’ve got a cross-on wind kicking up 5.2 ft of straggly, short-period swell at 6 seconds, and it’s just messy. The water is a touch warmer than normal for the time of the year, sitting at 68.7°, nothing crazy, but it’s about the only thing that’s kind of okay. This pattern keeps up for days – Sunday, Monday, Tuesday – all cross-on, all choppy. The swell height bounces around 3.3 ft to 6.2 ft, but the period stays short and weak, and the energy readings are mostly low to moderate, with that combined energy hovering in the 100 to 300 range. It’s not going to be any fun.

Mid-week, around the 19th and 20th, it gets smaller and messier. We’re talking 1 ft to 1.6 ft dribble. There’s a slight improvement on the 21st with a longer 10-second period from the NNW, but the wind is still cross-on, and it just doesn’t clean up. The energy numbers get a bit healthier, hitting 402 on the Friday morning, but it’s a false dawn. The onshore breeze is relentless, so the surface is going to look like a washing machine.

The second week is more of the same – a long, frustrating stretch. We’ve got some glassy mornings on the 24th and 25th, when the wind drops off completely, but by then the swell is down to a measly 2.6 ft to 3.9 ft with a short period. It's clean but tiny and weak, barely a ripple in close. That’s the trade-off all week: a bit more size, and the wind ruins it, or clean conditions with nothing to ride. There’s a moment on the 26th where we get a clean cross-off wind from the east on 3.6 ft swell, but it’s still an onshore wind otherwise, and the energy is just not there.

The only real glimmer, and I mean a faint one, comes on Sunday morning the 30th, which is nine days away. We finally see a bit of a pulse – 4.3 ft of NW swell with an 8-second period and, crucially, a glassy morning. The energy jumps to 262, which is moderate, and conditions are finally clean. But even this is only rated as “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” For this spot, which is very sheltered, it’s not exactly going to be a day for the history books. Still, if you’re desperate, that’s your window. The afternoon winds pick up again and mess it all up. Don’t hold your breath for anything else.

So, there you have it. A long, drawn-out period of nothing special. If you can’t wait, the 30th is the only chance, but keep your expectations in the gutter. Otherwise, save your energy. This stretch looks more interesting for a bit of kite surfing than paddle surfing. Stay patient.
