The Lowdown

Alright, this is Rusty, checkin' in from the beach. Gotta be straight with you – the next couple of weeks are lookin' like a real struggle for waves around here. The whole 16-day window is a single, long stretch of flat, weak, and messy conditions. We're talkin' a solid stretch with no real surf to get excited about from the start of August right through.

The only spot on the menu is Patrick Air Force Base, and it's a sandbar setup that's exposed to the east. The problem is, the swell is just tiny. From Tuesday the 4th onwards, we're lookin' at ankle-to-knee-high waves, mostly from the east, with a super short period of 4 to 8 seconds. The combined energy is weak, never even cracking 100 (29-156). That's just not enough push to shape up anything rideable.

On top of the tiny swell, the wind is a constant headache. For the first few days it's onshore or cross-onshore, turning the surface into a choppy mess. Even when the wind does lighten up a bit, like on the morning of Tuesday the 11th with a light cross-offshore breeze, the swell is so small (1 ft) there's nothing to surf. The water temperature at this spot is about average for the time of year, but you won't be in the water long enough to notice.

This is a tough run. The whole forecast is a bust. Keep your board in the car and check the forecast again in a few days – it can't stay this flat forever.

Rusty.
