The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Look, it’s been a bit quiet, but we’ve got some clean windows coming up at Ostiones. The water’s sittin’ at a balmy 89°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – you won’t be needing a wetsuit, that’s for sure.
The pattern is small, mainly around 2ft to 3ft, but with consistent groundswell from the SW that starts to push better energy by the end of the week. Don’t expect any bombs, but if you pick the right mornings, there’s fun on offer.
Wednesday morning (5th) is glassy with a 2ft SW swell, 14-second period, and clean conditions. The combined energy is weak (139), but for a tiny wave, it’s as good as it gets. Thursday morning (6th) is similar – glassy again with 2ft SW, and the energy starting to build a touch (195).
Friday morning (7th) kicks things up a notch – 2ft SW, but the period jumps to 18 seconds and energy hits 373 (moderate). Light cross-off wind, clean faces. That’s a proper little groundswell pulse. Saturday morning (8th) sees a slight bump to 3ft SW, 16-second period, offshore wind, and clean conditions – energy is 437 (moderate). This is your best bet of the week for a tidy, clean session.
Sunday morning (9th) holds with a 2ft SW, glassy conditions, and moderate energy (252). Another great morning to get out. Monday (10th) offers a total glass-off with 2ft SW and no wind at all – magical. Tuesday (11th) is clean again with a 2ft SW, 18-second period, and energy up to 474, just watch for a risk of thunderstorms.
The standout for the whole outlook? Thursday morning (14th) – 3ft SW, 18-second period, cross-off wind, very clean, and energy hits 656 (strong). This is the pick of the bunch. Saturday morning (15th) is a bit messier with cross-shore wind and marginal conditions.
By Wednesday morning (20th), we see a shift in direction to SSW with 3ft waves, 17-second period, energy at 548 (strong), and cross-off wind – that’s another cracker, but it’s a long way out, so keep an eye on it.
Ostiones is a reef break, and these long-period SW swells will wrap in nicely. Crowds can show up sometimes, but with these sizes, you’ll have room to move. The afternoons are all blown out with onshore W or NW wind, so mornings are where it’s at.
