Table - best surf conditions forecast for Newcastle Beach over the next 16 days.
G’day, I’m Rusty. Right now, Newcastle Beach is quiet – almost flat through the middle of July. The first decent chance won’t show up until the morning of Saturday the 19th, so we’re looking at about a week of flat to ordinary conditions before things turn on. After that, we get a solid run of quality surf right through to the end of the month.
The build starts slow. Saturday the 11th has a small 3ft ESE swell with a clean offshore breeze (313 combined energy), but it’s tiny and only scores as a gentle intro. Sunday the 12th and Monday the 13th are basically a write-off – dropping swell, messy wind, and weak energy. Tuesday the 14th through Friday the 18th are a grind: small swells, cross-shore and cross-onshore winds, and that lumpy chop. That Wednesday the 15th sees a brief pulse of 7ft S swell, but it comes with a cross-onshore wind, so it’s sloppy. Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th are rain-soaked and choppy – not worth paddling out for. Saturday the 18th is still marginal, with 4–5ft E swell and a cross-onshore breeze. Honestly, you’d be better off on a kiteboard those days.
Now, the standouts. From Sunday the 19th onward, Newcastle Beach fires up. The morning of the 19th delivers a clean 7ft E swell with a light cross-offshore breeze and moderate wave energy (1118). That’s a proper wave – solid, clean, and for experienced surfers only at that size. But the real gem comes on Thursday the 23rd: glassy conditions, no wind at all, with a 7ft ESE groundswell and a very long 12-second period. The combined energy hits 2170 – that’s strong. This is the best on offer. The swell direction matches the optimum and it’s a point-and-reef style wave, so that long period will wrap in beautifully with long, clean lines.
Through the rest of the second week, there’s plenty of action. Monday the 20th morning has 7ft ESE swell with offshore wind and 1056 energy – excellent for experienced surfers again. Tuesday the 21st morning is another cracker: 7ft E swell, light cross-offshore breeze, 1297 energy. Wednesday the 22nd stays clean with 6ft E swell, and Friday the 24th morning has 5ft ESE at a long 12 seconds with 1553 energy – still superb. That Friday afternoon bumps to 8ft SE, but the cross-onshore wind makes it marginal.
Sunday the 26th morning sees the run wind down with a cleaner 3ft ESE swell and a light offshore breeze, but it’s small. After that, it fades.
For the first break I mention: water temperature is sitting at 66°, which is pretty much average for this time of year – no surprises there. Newcastle Beach is very consistent and exposed to the SE, so it picks up most swells. Crowds can be a problem here often, but with these quality waves in the second week, expect a few locals out. If you’re a beginner, anything over 5ft is pushing it, and when it hits 7ft-plus, save it for the experienced crew.
Keep it salty, Rusty.
