Table - best surf conditions forecast for Newcastle Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here, let’s talk about what’s cooking at Newcastle Beach over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, mate, it’s a tough start. The first week is basically a write-off for decent waves. The surf is tiny, and the conditions are messy. We’ve got a long gap from now until the 21st of July before there’s anything worth paddling out for. The early days have some offshore wind, but the swell is so small—like 0.7ft to 1ft—it’s not even worth getting the wetsuit on. The energy is weak (26), and the water temp is sitting at 66°F, which is about average for this time of year.
Then, on the 15th of July, we get a spike in swell. Wednesday morning shows a 8ft southerly swell, with moderate cross-shore wind. The combined energy jumps to 1210, which is strong, but the wind is cross, and the conditions are described as marginal. By the afternoon, the wind goes cross-onshore, and the surf is just poor. It’s a messy, choppy situation. This swell is too big for beginners and will be challenging for everyone else. The rest of the week is onshore, lumpy, and generally not worth the effort.
The real standout, the only window of quality, arrives on Tuesday the 21st of July. The morning brings a clean 4ft easterly swell with glassy conditions and a light offshore wind. Combined energy is a moderate 302, and the period is 10 seconds, which is a solid groundswell. The waves will be clean and well-shaped, perfect for the longboard or a fun mid-length. The afternoon holds up too, with a 4ft easterly swell and glassy conditions again. This is the best on offer—clean, manageable, and the wind is perfect. The crowd profile at Newcastle Beach is “often,” so expect a few others out, but it should be a good session.
Wednesday the 22nd morning is also clean, with a 4ft easterly swell and a light cross-offshore wind. It’s a good option, not quite as glassy as Tuesday, but solid. After that, the conditions turn cross-onshore and choppy again.
The following week, starting the 24th, we see a drop in size and quality. The wind is generally cross or cross-onshore, and the swell stays around 3ft to 3ft with a long period over 10 seconds. The energy is low (163 to 287). There’s a chance on Monday the 27th morning with a clean 3ft easterly swell and a light cross-offshore breeze, but it’s small. Tuesday the 28th morning has a clean 2ft swell with offshore wind, but again, very small.
So, bottom line: the first week is a dud. The 21st of July is your clear winner—clean, glassy, and a fun swell. After that, it’s hit or miss with small, clean windows. Keep an eye on the Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, but don’t expect much.
Rusty.
