Table - best surf conditions forecast for Middles/Generals over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.
Honestly, looking at the next two weeks, it’s a grim start. We’ve got a solid 14 days of pretty ordinary conditions at Middles/Generals. The wind is stuck onshore from the ENE, blowing a fresh to strong breeze (19-25 mph), and that’s just gonna keep the ocean messy with a lumpy cross-chop. The swell sits around 5ft to 7ft, but it’s short-period stuff at 7-8 seconds, so it’ll be weak and wonky. The combined wave energy is moderate (values between 314 and 809), but with that wind, it’s just not worth paddling out. The water temp is 80°, which is about average for this time of year, so at least you won’t freeze while you’re getting frustrated.
Then, around Tuesday, July 21st, the game changes. A long-period groundswell rolls in from the east, pushing 4ft to 4ft at 16 seconds. The energy jumps up to 1284, which is strong. This is a very long-period swell, so it’ll be breaking straight at this beach setup, but it could still offer some decent lines. The wind is still a moderate cross-shore, so it won’t be glassy. The standout here is Wednesday, July 22nd afternoon. The swell drops to 3ft at 14 seconds, but we get a glassy, clean surface with light SSE wind at 3 mph. The conditions are described as "very good," and that’s the best we’ll see. The energy is still strong (731), so it’s a proper session for the patient crew.
Crowds? This spot is "often" busy, so expect company on that Wednesday glass-off. The swell direction is east, close to the optimum (ESE), so it’ll be hitting the break right. Forget the early part of the window; the only real time to get wet is that Wednesday afternoon. For the rest of the run, you’re better off taking a break.
Rusty.
