Table - best surf conditions forecast for Middles/Generals over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's coming down the line for us.
Honestly, looking at the next couple of weeks, it’s a tough stretch for Middles/Generals. The whole forecast period is a bit of a grind, with a lot of crossed-up, blown-out conditions. The wind is just a pain in the neck, mostly from the ENE, and it’s strong enough to chew up any decent swell that tries to roll in. The wave energy is all over the place, from a weak 101 all the way up to a massive 1505 towards the end, but that energy doesn't mean much when the wind is sideshore and the surf’s a mess.
We’ve got a lot of poor surf conditions to get through. The water temp is sitting around 79°, which is pretty normal for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The first few days, from Saturday the 11th to the 19th July, are a write-off. The wind is a fresh to strong breeze, and the swell is a short-period, bumpy cross-chop. It’s not going to be fun out there.
There’s a slight change around the 23rd of July, Thursday morning. For the first time in ages, we get a "marginal" call. The swell is still small, around 3 ft from the SSW, but the period jumps to 21 seconds. That’s a serious groundswell. The energy is high too, at 996. The problem is the wind is still a moderate cross-shore from the ENE. It’s not going to be perfect, but it’s the best we’ve seen. It’s promising, but it’s a long way out, so don’t bank on it.
Then, the real standout, if you can wait, is Sunday the 26th of July. The swell energy hits a massive 1505, with a 5 ft swell from the S at a 19-second period. That’s a big, powerful groundswell. The wind is a moderate cross-shore from the ENE. It’s still not glassy, but with that much energy, it’ll be holding shape. This is the one to watch, but again, it’s a long-range call, so keep your fingers crossed. With that long period, expect it to be a bit straight at a beach break, but it’ll still have plenty of push.
Really, the only thing worth getting excited about is that last week. The 23rd is a maybe, but the 26th is the real target. Be patient.
