Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Hey, Rusty here. I gotta level with ya – this whole 16-day stretch from now through July 17th is a total dud at Middles/Generals. The finder shows zero good options, and the guidance tells us it’s “fairly consistent” but the wind and swell just aren’t lining up. It’s a rough spell, but that happens here sometimes – when the ENE wind locks in day after day with that strong cross-shore, it’s game over for clean waves.
Water temp is about 79°F, just normal for this time of year – nothing unusual there.
Starting Thursday afternoon July 2nd, we’ve got ENE swell around 5 ft with a short 8-second period and a 22 mph cross wind. The combined energy is moderate at 558, but it’s “poor surf conditions” – lumpy chop. Friday the 3rd and Saturday the 4th are the same. Saturday afternoon sees a 2 ft S swell with a long 20-second period, energy at 918, but that cross wind at 22 mph kills it.
Monday July 6th through Wednesday July 8th, the swell bumps up to 7 ft to 7 ft from the ENE, period still short at 7-8 seconds, and wind hits 25 mph from the ENE – “strong cross-shore with messy cross-chop”. This is more of a kiteboarding setup than paddle surfing. Thursday July 9th to Monday July 13th keeps the grind: ENE swell around 5 ft to 6 ft, period 7-8 seconds, wind 22-25 mph. Energy goes from moderate 239 to 612, but every entry is “poor surf conditions”. A couple of Southwest pulses at 3 ft with 15-18 second period show up, but the wind stays cross or cross-onshore.
From July 14th to the 17th, the swell fades – 3 ft to 4 ft ENE, weak period, energy drops to 107 by Tuesday afternoon July 14th. Tiny SSW pulses at 1 ft to 2 ft with longer period don’t change the picture. By Friday July 17th morning, it’s a 3 ft E swell at 6 seconds, and afternoon goes to 1 ft SSW.
No standouts. None. If you’re patient, forecasts can change, but for now it’s a waiting game. Keep your board waxed and your eyes on the horizon.
Rusty.
